Not a licensed cosmetologist here… but just did this technique on my daughter and it was so much easier then foiling and it gave her such pretty blended highlights! Thank you 😊
Thank you so much about mentioning the bit about social media. People boasting about spending hours on one person to push the envelope on a service. That 8 hours is also very costly!! Most clients can’t afford an all day session costing hundreds of dollars. Thank you for being realistic and practical
Absolutely my pleasure Jade yes who has the time of money to spend eight hours in the salon I don’t so I don’t think it’s realistic for me to promote techniques that are going to be done over the span of eight hours 👍🏻
Fantastic I have been using this technique for years so nice to see u do it as I do, meaning it makes feel better about it as I always felt like a cheat but clients always loved the natural way it grows out thank u James 😆
Tina never feel bad about the technique you use you are the professional here do what you need to get the job done don’t feel like you need to conform to the constraints of other peoples techniques 😁👍🏻
This has been my fave vid so far! I really loved and appreciated the discussion about being a people pleaser as a stylist and how to work with our clients when they come in with expectations inspired by social media. Thank you!!
Another great video and fantastic advice for us stylists out here. Sometimes the pressure is high to perform miracles. It is good to know that we can stay confident in our advice to our clients. 🙏🏿
Fabulous intro James 🤣 a star in the making 😜 so the board ..... I wish I had watched you do this about 10'yrs ago when I tried one🙄 my one and only attempt that still gives me Nightmares 😳 of course I had No idea what I was doing and hence ended up with practically a full head of bleeds and blotches and an afternoon of "low lighting " 😜 fabulous result James you really are like the Harry Potter of the hair world 😝 thanks as always 🙏👍😊 Paul
Omg I always saw these balayage boards with teeth but didn’t understand what it was for. Talk about a light bulb going off in my head! Well done James! Hello from USA 🇺🇸!
Haven’t even watched the whole vid yet but I know it’s going to be awesome 😊 and I always like your vids straight away before even watching because you are a talented amazing hair dresser 👍
Love this i actually thought of doing this a long time ago but didnt hv the confidence to trust myself...but James would it work with tint and the power lift bleach who is it by??
Thank you again for your amazing video. My hair is almost similar to Patricia except I have 50 %grey roots on the front and both sides of my face. I will follow your video to do the my dark roots (6ish )behind my ears to the back of my head. I have S. blonde 9 lift with 20 vol. only . Can I use 30 vol. but diff. brand? Could you please kindly help me how I should tackle the front and both side of my hair with 50% grey and what product
Fantastic and I hope it works out for you Lucy what I would say is if you’re thinking about mixing 30 volume from a different brand with the blonde nine level do that at your own risk it’s never advisable to mix peroxides from different brands with each other
As far as tackling The sides and the front hairline well without being out to actually see your front hairline or the side it’s tricky for me to say but I would imagine that you’ll be able to take it on exactly like he would be back or anywhere else preach this white hair as if it’s blonde hair so you just get a nice pale blonde on on the grey bits 😁👍🏻
I'm over a YEAR late to watch this video, but "BETTER late than NEVER" seeing it at all. WOW! That was AMAZING. James, where do I buy that Balayage board?
great board! you are like the Jamie Oliver of hair! lol so am almost retied stylist is salon at 15! anyway thx for keeping me up to date! Really enjoy you learning from , were did u get that board with the comb? My plastic board is almost 47 years old LOL!
God,my dreams of having my own salon,or even renting a chair, because the last place i worked they would have given me 15 minutes to do this😒 like there is no way!!! Ughhh Thanks so much for this informative video 😊😁
Make it Happen Haley I would say unless you want the responsibility of staff then go chair rental and use social media to get yourself busy the possibility is endless for self promotion these days 😁👍🏻
Very nice. I really wish you would have parted the hair open during the reveal. It’s something I think I could use. Where do I get the board with teeth??
Yes I always think that after or sometimes during but as they are my clients and they are good enough to let me video them it’s sometimes hard to start rummaging in there hair 😁👍🏻
This is awesome because I feel like there are so many clients who come in with a lot of regrowth and it ends up taking forever to retouch them ! I'm gonna try this next time
I use the same board for both highlighting and lowlighting. I love the result and your client's hair is gorgeous! 💛 Curious about what bleach you used?
Ur videos are always fab and the technique is amazing however im feeling a reluctance to name the product used to lighten and i think thats key in this technique as more people would then feel confident to try, and the whole message of quick services may actually filter down better as we will have the confidence to try it. thanks for sharing xx
I am not an Hairstylist and I don't habe straight/Wavy Hair. I have very thicc Curly Hair. I don't really know why i clicked in this but ..m it was very satisfying to watch! :)
Thanks so much! I would love to use this in the salon. Which board did u purchase? There's a few on Amazon but not sure of quality then I saw the "Coo board" on behind the chair. Which do u suggest??
Superb I just bought a cheap on from salon services I generally buy cheap board because I find that even the more expensive ones the teeth brake off 👍🏻
This is gorgeous! I have a client that is a brunette level 5/6 who wants to go brighter as she is sick of doing retouches every 3 weeks. Do you think this technique suits the purpose? I probably have to foil it I guess.. Or the alternative I was thinking would be balayage with 40 vol. What would you do? Thanks a lot James!
I was even thinking to do slightly diagonal back sections of 2 back to back foils with this technique to give a blended balayage look, could be a good idea💡 ☺️
Pimpmyride has it cling film would be a great addition for more lift or you could do some foils and space them out in the same way as this technique and if you wanted to take it one step further you could put a low light in between each lightener you soften even more 👍🏻
Not a licensed cosmetologist here… but just did this technique on my daughter and it was so much easier then foiling and it gave her such pretty blended highlights! Thank you 😊
Thank you for your message 🥺. Social media is so intimidating
My career has nothing to do with hair and I watch these videos like my life depends on it

You are very welcome 🙏🏻
