    I agree with you r.e. different strengths of developer. Earlier on in my career I was a proponent of 'low and slow' which often meant using 10vol, 20vol max and I ended up having to do 2 or 3 sessions to get my clients the lightness they wanted and truthfully I was often leaving bleach on their hair for a very very long time and noticing breakage in my clients hair after a few appointments
    Now I prefer to use 30vol and start at the back and then rinse it off once I've placed all my foils and then just process the rest for maybe 30-45 minutes. I'm getting lighter results and way less damage this way.

    I like the Redken Shades EQ Cover Plus line for these warmer 75% gray or less clients that want the gray covered because it grows out with no line. I JUST Formulate their level and feather it in. But, no, I do not want to do tint touch ups all day long every day. SOUL CRUSHING!

      @@TheLifeOfHair I feel lucky to still have it. PERMANENT coverage , up to 1,5 levels of lift and grows out like a demi. It's fabulous. There ate no ash shades, really and nothing lighter than an 8, but it's great for those level 4-7's that have 20 gray hairs they obsess over.

I was shook by the result and i'm 100% a beginner i was so scared to do it , there were some foil bleed spots but it all got fixed with a dye which i applied after the bleaching . Hi James!!!! First of all, I LOVE, LOVE your videos and I am a big fan! You are not only and absolutely brilliant colourist but appear to be a fabulous teacher. I was wondering what your take is on the whole trend of ashy, icy and platinum blonde. I feel like this trend is getting so worn out and when so many colourists on TH-cam continue to push for these tones when (as lovely as they are) they are not optimal for everyone. So many of them equate warm/golden with brassy without teaching their viewers the difference what is warm and what is brassy. Could you do a video about how to tell the difference between warm/golden and brassy and how warm tones are just as beautiful as cool tones? There are none out there, all the videos are about countering against 'unwanted warmth' which gives the message that warmth MUST be unwanted. Some people need warmth. Thanks again for all the education, you are fabulous. A big hug from Zürich!!!

  • @Hairbyshivm
    @Hairbyshivm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello james, how are you ? Hope your doing fine. I just had one question i have watched most of your videos and i have notice you highlights back to back without leaving a thin slice for depth. is it necessary to leave a slice of dark natural color hairs that adds depth to the highlights pieces or should we always foil back to back like in all videos of yours.

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Shaivam, I am very well thank you I hope you are the same? So it really depends on the technique if I am completely changing the natural colour using highlights then I will leave little to no space in between the sections however if I am creating dimension as you say I will leave a gap in between I’m not a big fan of low lights so I use quite a lot of techniques that do have quite large spaces in between them if you check this video out your see what I mean th-cam.com/video/hx39WGGHJZI/w-d-xo.html 😁✌🏻

    Awesome video! Question! For the parting on top if the client wants to be brighter will you still leave a little hair out in between or no?

    • @TheLifeOfHair

      I would leave a little bit of hair out in between but I would reduce the gaps between my foils definitely 😁👍🏻

    I am so glad I ran into your channel! I want to do highlights and I am having difficulty choosing between 20v and 30v. My hair is light brown and tends to be frizzy so I am guessing it's also more porous. What do you suggest!? Thank you :)

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I would say the difference between 20 and 30 is how fast you can apply them the slower you are go for the lower volume 😁👍🏻

      I only use 20vol when doing my own and wash out the back while the front is still processing.

    I was wondering I have quite a few clients who are more than 90% grey I would love to give them more time between appointments other than always playing with very light blondes do you have any other techniques that you would like to share with us?
    I have been working my way through your videos they are really good, I wanted to wish you luck in your new venture and I will share your videos through my local hairdressing community

      I don’t specifically have a video tackling that I have the technique that I use for these clients when I’m in the salon I will link it in this comment but what I intend to do then is drop them down to a level 7/8 and do this highlighting technique I tend to do it all at once as well so I put the foils in and then paint my root colour in between my foils tell me what you think th-cam.com/video/Cwi41Tck1bg/w-d-xo.html

    Hello James. I have a problem in the salon with clients that come in after a few sessions of highlights requesting a uniform color because they got bored of highlights. Do you have any techniques that might help us create a uniform color without damaging the clients hair. I find it very difficult. Thanks!

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Gabi tricky situation, once you have gone down the highlighting road the only thing that you can do to go blonder is packing those highlights! leaving very small spaces in between in fact if you can allow the time and your clients will pay for it to a full set of that of that files eliminating as much of the natural hair is possible then the next time you can decide if a scalp bleach is possible or you can continue down the road of very tightly packed foils it is very time-consuming and be sure that you charging for the services do you not leave yourself doing very very expensive colour services and not changing. 😁👍🏻

    Can you do highlights on previously permed hair? From what I'm reading online it's mostly a no, but my friend wants me to do it anyway, she said should be fine. I don't wanna melt her hair off lol

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh very very cheeky question there are so many factors to that question and the general answer for safety reasons is no. Without being out to see the quality of the hair and know quite a lot about the hair is history it would be very very difficult for me to give you a answer so I’m going to stick with don’t do it it might go very wrong

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thank your a question in short the bleach that I Are used in this video is a clay bleach but not that is specifically for Balayage can use it for foils balayage and scalp bleach it’s just a very very conditioning bleach with a clay bees wax base

    helpppp me to stay motivated,Its killing me here in the usa doing self Quarantined , I don't want to end up perming my hair with blue rods and making my hair black so I can look like with my standard poodle out of total boredom or maybe total insanity .🐩😱, I really don't care for that new growth stuff every 6 to 8 weeks,mine will not come in early enough so I always have to work with the demarcation line and I've mastered that but still I feel like you do ...

    If you saturated like that on Asian hair, it would never lift.

    • @TheLifeOfHair

      No you’re absolutely right and if I was doing Asian hair I would probably have heavier saturation as my clients natural hair is level seven isn’t necessary 😁👍🏻
