Didn't increase anything tenfold, he just became a MMA fighter to rally around for the Irish, so he sort of became a conduit of already existing Irish pride.

Just by an Irish man breaking records and inspiring Irish kids on such a global level enhances Irish pride. Of course the Irish were always prideful. But Conor has brought this mystical Irish takeover quality. He has Irish people uniting to embrace their culture in arenas and cities they nornally wouldnt have. The Irish, we follow our own blood. Similar to how the Icelandic folk follow and support their own. We'll travel in droves to see a fellow Irish man fight, compete whatever the case may be. I'm not a huge Russel Brand fan but he's almost certainly correct about our psyche of being oppressed. A psyche where we've always felt we were the underdog. He's bang on the money when he mentioned conor capturing a particular mood in our country during his rise. We had experienced the hardest recession in human history. I remember most of my mates father's being made redundant and other friends losing homes from 2007 right through to 2013. Even two lads from my school lost their dads to suicide things got so bad. Conor was another lad from a lower middle class family chasing a dream during this time. We saw our own push for greatness and we were subsequently uplifted by his performances. I had always been an Iceman fan and finally took up mma when I saw Conor perform in cage warriors having played rugby since I was 6 years old. He grew up a 2-3 miles from where I live so to me he was just another lad from around the corner but with an exceptional story to be told. People who write malicious or hateful things on the Internet about Conor ultimately are the minority. The millions of views he gets across all social media platforms outweighs the spiteful nonsense that goes on behind the big picture. He couldn't care less what you say about him as long as you're talking about him. Undoubtedly he's a polarising figure. Last year I started watching the NBA and I saw the same trend around LeBron James and Stephen Curry. You can see it on gaming channels as well. I'm no psychologist so I'm not going to breakdown why people hate Conor but they are no different to the rest of the haters in other sports/disciplines, more people are inspired by him than those who wish to bash his character and that's just a fact and you aren't 'woke' if you believe otherwise. You're entitled to discredit his achievements but you're just a drop in the ocean.

      No explanation.
      Allow me to retort. He didn't make money through traditional capitalistic means, but rather through his skill as a storyteller. This is a rarity, virtually no one else with the possible exception of other very successful stand-up comedians or authors have made vast sums of money through storytelling. Storytelling would be popular no matter what system of government we live under, capitalist or socialist - actually probably more so under a socialist system because the arts would be more valued. Was Russel Brand born into wealth? no. Did he get it through occupations linked to capitalism? no. Has he spoken out against having more money than he needs and politically tried to change the system unlike other rich people? yes. Has he used his time to help the underprivileged? yes. Has he used his money to help the underprivileged? unclear, but definitely partly.

Or him crushing the featherweight division? Or his amazing predictions? Or his a1 trash talk? Or his amazing TKO with Eddie? All that goes out the window with you because he lost 1 time recently and got beat in an entirely different sport? What a childish and blind hater like way of looking at things.

    • @evian4185

      Lawrance Combs i agree with you for the Most part but why you mention woodley? With that logic DJ has to fight holloway to be considered one of the goats. Btw i think it's actually a good matchup for conor. Woodley has a low output and cant handle pressure very good.

      @eetfuk5699 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kevin Snow I actually liked Conor when he dominated the featherweight division. As far as his trash talk, it's gotten stale lately. Eddie Alvarez isn't exactly an elite fighter. Diaz, not even a top ten guy schooled Conor twice. In the Diaz rematch, it shouldn't have gone be full twenty five minutes, he needed to make Diaz quit.

    A trilogy between McGregor and Diaz is old news. I watched the first two fights but I wouldn’t necessarily pay to watch them again. Conor needs to defend his belt against the top lightweight contenders. We’ve seen the flaws in his game. His cardio is weak. He’s fighting smaller guys and always brags about how he’s the bigger man. Nate is the only bigger fighter who really exposed him. Get some equal sized fighters who can absorb some punches and run a past pace. Personally I would love a rematch with Aldo. I think it was a lucky punch.

    • @pcbignarstie1969
      @pcbignarstie1969 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      still won against him though, lucky punch or not. Imo i dont think it was lucky he knew what he was doing and he timed the punch very well. Thats my opinion so.

    • @bel6891
      @bel6891 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree somewhat but when 2 fighters weigh in at 145 or 155 then they are they same size! Conor was in the back rehearsing his counter to aldo's strikes and movement and whether that sequence happens after 13 seconds or 13 minutes it's masterful fight IQ nothing lucky about it!

    • @MunsonRoyE27
      @MunsonRoyE27 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ken Brimmer Sorry but if you word for word say how you're going to KO someone and then literally do EXACTLY what you said you were going to it can't be considered luck. Aldo is finished if Conor goes back to 145 he should rematch Hollaway.

    • @joehiggins668
      @joehiggins668 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fuck the trilogy fight with diaz, mcgregor needs to fight the winner of Ferguson and Lee, it's as simple as that, if he doesn't well then it just shows how much of a sham the ufc is,
      It's been a year now since he won the belt so the division has been held up long enough,
      The LW division needs a champ that will defend his fucking title at least twice a year instead of taking a year off

    • @K2B77
      @K2B77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I predicted exactly what would happen to McGregor against Mayweather. Conor would gas out after the early rounds and Mayweather would pick him apart. That doesn’t mean I’ll always predict the outcome exactly and neither has Conor. Conor is a good fighter, no doubt. But in his own words, he always describes how he’s the bigger man. Not always, but size certainly does make a difference. I certainly don’t see Mighty Mouse who is 5’3 fighting Conor at 5’9 even if they fight at the same weight. And Aldo is 5’7 which is smaller. The champions who’ve lost have gotten a rematch. It’s especially due for Aldo who was the longest running champion. I’m not particular to any fighter, I appreciate the skills each one has. But my opinion is Aldo should be given a rematch. He was lured in by Conor’s trash talk and Aldo rushed in, which is not his style. He was too emotional for that fight and he got caught. That’s why I think there should be a rematch, then there’s no doubt it was a lucky punch.
