Franz is such a unique artist! I find his work so exciting and dangerous. Love him! Oh by the way, what is Nick wearing? It looks so cool and that I may need it!
Haven’t seen the film but have lived in Nigeria and so I can tell you that MEND is a real political movement in the region. Nigeria where MEND is operating was colonized by the British (nearby nations are Francophone though). This film sounds like it resonates with themes in African-made films of the last decade. I look forward to seeing it if it comes to Maine (or to streaming?)
Doesn’t have anything to do with the film but Nick! I rewatched your Q&A from years ago where you recommended your Apple Music playlist and I’ve been OBSESSED with it lately! You’ve got me deeply attached to the Supremes so thank you 😂❤
Love these reviews, you guys make a great dynamic in reviewing. Just for my own and don't feel the need to answer naturally but for my own curiosity are you guys acquitances or partners, because you guys bounce off each other delightfully.
I appreciate that you always introduce me to new movies I've never heard of! This sounds really interesting! Unrelated you both look particularly great today!
Just saw this film in cinema, thought it was great. The score, the similarities between night life and the spiritual village especially - although the extras in the club seemed a little stiff, plus echoes of colonial guilt evades no ones, not even those only "French by spilled blood," were profound. Alex embodied this guilt insofar he became his victim, metaphysically killed by his own action. I did notice the scratches on his neck after the sargent telling him to improve/being stripped by his comrades after visiting Jomo's sister- still curious the reasoning there. The pacing from the death of Mikael / Boot camp / Being fully trained felt a little rushed (boot camp too long?). But the vast variety of shots kept me hooked - Exploring the night vision / light bursts. The repetitive river elment. Again, the score was amazing in cinema. I stayed until the end to hear it.
The 'supernatural' like part Joseph notes is a 'local culture' believe perhaps, that's what a mirror ball is to Disco age 😉and, the grass is *not* always greener on the other side...🙁yet, there's a dream to make it😊

It's a shirt he bought in France many years ago.

I could look it up via Google but do you recommend any site to learn more about MEND?

Love your synopsis! You got talent writing and conveying the fundamentals of a film on a few lines ❤

The trailer is giving "enter the void" vibes
