We should certainly gate keep skincare when it comes to kids who are going to be doing more damage than good to their skin at such a young age. I’m genuinely really worried for the safety of these kids when they get older- they have criminally low attention spans, dopamine addictions, and at the ripe age of eight or so they’re already worried about wrinkles. with short-form social media being as common and accessible as it is to young children I’m actually not surprised this happened. I’m more worried about the kind of things they’ll do when they become adults. I’m so glad I was raised in a low-technology household where this didn’t happen to me
Ironically from his mention of the Hunger Games books, these kids are becoming just like the freakish Capitol citizens. As adults they'll be spoiled, obsessed with entertainment, extravagant, and altered to the point of creepiness by plastic surgery. They'll basically be the equivalent of a ragdoll cat in terms of their ability to survive if their pampered world is taken away.
I remember having this conversation with a 16 year old that seriously though reaching your 20s was being "middle aged" Which... If you simply googled it you would know instantly what middle age is, but this kid was just taking seriously all the adult people she saw in TikTok about how being in your 20's was "being ancient" and completely ran with it until she made a fool of herself in social media What bothers me most about this generation is that, I feel like this permanent ease of the internet has completely killed young people's curiosity to just... Google stuff? Yes, Google won't be impartial all the time when you ask more complex stuff, but I'm just so tired of like, looking at kids ask on social media the meaning of simple vocabulary words that they can totally search by themselves and run with whatever they're told without even questioning, now every browser has a built in search bar, it takes seconds to tap away in your phone and make a single question, why are people depending of social media to answer such basic questions??

As an older gen z (24), it's kind of fascinating to me to see people my age and younger obsessing over their appearances and having this phobia of aging then doing things that will absolutely exacerbate aging and skin issues as they get older. Like children damaging their skin with retinol and young girls getting all these procedures and fillers at a concerningly young age. Like.....fillers stretch out your skin. You can get them dissolved but your skin will still be less tight. Seeing how all these celebs who had insane levels of work done before they even turned 20 (Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid etc.) are looking 30 in their 20's and imo aging much worse than they would have naturally makes me think that all the people getting this 'preventative aging' work done are going to be absolutely STRUGGLING in 5-10 years. Like these celebs have infinite money for more work and revisions and they're still struggling to hide how off-putting and uncanny valley-esque they look now. It's so ironic to me that people who are obsessing over their appearances the most may look awful in a decade because their work ages poorly. I don't wanna get old and wrinkly but I'd rather do that then look like some of these celebs, it's unnerving.
I have never used a proper skincare routine and I look the same as I did 10 years ago (minus the grey hair). I'm starting to think that my skin is less unique than I thought.
I’m 24 as well. My skin routine consists of me washing my face before I go to bed, and dabbing body wash on my face when I shower. That’s it. I’ve been doing this since I was 13 and my skin has been normal all these years. I’m glad I listened to myself rather than my sisters growing up. They told me that I should wash my face 3 times a day, use a face mask 3 times a week, and wear a ton of makeup whenever I go out. They told me that I would become the ugly friend and that my friends would only keep me around to make themselves look better. Fast forward to now, my friends at 13 are still my closest friends now. I’ve gotten to the point of my life where I’m very happy with how I look. Anytime I see myself with a filter on (the ones that change skin tone or facial features) it feels wrong. I used to be super insecure about the dark circles under my eyes, but every time they get covered with makeup, I feel as though I can’t walk outside. I’m glad that I never downloaded TikTok or watched beauty channels in general. I feel as though I’d still be stuck in that mindset if I had
plot twist its actually a psy op by Big Makeup to trick people into buying makeup as children now AND then obligatory buying makeup as adults to fix the damage that the makeup they used as children did
Exactly, like these celebrities will spend hundreds even thousands on skincare to look young, then get those buccal fat removal procedures that age them by like 10 years
my thing with the alphabet stuff... like in kindergarten and first grade there were months dedicated to being taught this. workbooks just filling pages in copying undercase/uppercase letters within the lines until we can. how that's not working (happening??) somehow is beyond me.
as a former school employee; a lot of schools got rid of holding kids back, and theres no consequences for disrespectful or abusive behavior. these kids dont WANT to learn, and the school is too afraid of the parents to do anything to help them.
My kindergartner is expected to know her alphabet, in order, write every letter upper and lowercase letter, know numbers through 20 and add and subtract those numbers, and also has a laundry list of fine motor activities she's supposed to be capable of. Her best friend who's in first grade has several pages of homework every single day, and the second he's done all he wants is his tablet to decompress from the stress of acting "right" all day in a way his lil 7 year old body can't handle. We're trying to shove all this stuff in these kids as fast as possible so yeah of course none of it sticks and their brain only retains the skills they use daily- enough reading and fine motor control to use a touchscreen.
@@qryptidI think instead of an IPad an actual computer would be better. Using keys help kids learn letters andthe ability to use keys is a motor skill. So if a kid wants to play after doing homework it should be on a computer as they would be engaging the skills that they just learned in homework and school.
I remember when I was kid being so uncomfortable to step into a Sephora cuz it felt like such a unknown grown up place but now u got kids just going in trashing the place.
I'm gen z teacher of 3 years now. Gen alpha is terrified of confrontation because no one EVER resisted their behaviour. I had some of the twitch geniuses who claimed that woman teacher is worthless (I am a woman) so I told them they need to realise this woman teacher has in her hand the ability to prevent him from finishing his education and the possibility of him attending school trips and such. Pretty weak threat yet worked like a charm.
Honestly, the amount of misogyny that the next generation could have is pretty terrifying. In elementary school, everyone loved in P.E whenever we did boys vs girls, but it’s scary to think that something so innocent could be turned deadly if they keep getting worse ideas shoved down their throats.
God I feel so bad for the sweet and genuine women that are saying sorry to these kids. They’re just too sweet and kind but they shouldn’t be saying sorry anymore. After seeing so many vids of Sephora kids and one vid in particular where a kid SMACKED a woman with a Stanley cup, kicked her, and then threw a tantrum in the store cus she wanted the DIOR lip oil the woman was holding, I just want to shove these kids out of my way and say “MOVE”. If I’m gonna have to talk to them, it’ll be with a lot of attitude. We shouldn’t grace these kids with kindness because look at how they’re behaving. THAT WAS ASSAULT WTF
Just because you understand them, doesn't mean what they did wasn't wrong. But if a kid is so scared that they act out like that, would it help to push them down further?
@@Widdekuu91 Yes. Absolutely. Every time. I know you mean it with the best of intentions and please know I'm not trying to be rude to you... but coddling and spoiling kids even more is not the way to handle them. Yes, parents should be parenting and they should have been doing that since day 1. Not suddenly realise their responsibilities when the kids are 12 years old. As for strangers who are not their parents, they don't owe anything to bratty kids and their neglectful parents. Sorry if this sounds cruel, I just see way too many people enable and coddle bad behaviour. But ultimately its the parent's fault. They could have been child-free by choice but no they really had to make it the world's problem

@syedarizvi7290 While we say that parents who can't teach their kids properly shouldn't have kids. But by society's standards we need to have kids regardless as that's how we have the next generation of humans. It's an expectation in that sense. So a parent who is not mentally ready to have a child may still have one and then not raise them properly by instilling good manners and behaviour. It becomes the rest of our problem as everyone who comes into contact with the child will then need to deal with their behaviour and correct it too. This issue needs to be addressed and Sephora is the only store doing this and I don't understand why they haven't banned the kids from buying yet when they should and suggest other kid friendly stores. But no they are making a profit of this too!! smh
I don’t really understand how kids are ending up like this. My son is in 1st grade and he says a few of his classmates habitually just don’t do their work and just eff around all day…how as a parent could you be ok with that?? My kid would be losing all screen privileges so fast if I found out they weren’t listening to their teachers at school. Parents are just pathetic. Not just “these days”, though, I’m sure people have always been this way.
It's worse now, they just shove iPads in their face because it's the easiest way to shut them up. On top of that you have "gentle parenting" which most people confuse for permissive parenting, where saying "no" or even slightly raising your voice is forbidden. Which is gonna be a wild ride for these kids when they hit the real world, get told "no" regularly, and get BTFO in public for being rude/aggressive and pissing someone off.
From what I observed, is because parents be having kids for the wrong reasons (ie: keep a man, impulsiveness) or they're a child themselves (teenage parents). They're usually so caught up with their own lives to focus on their children, or they wanna give them the lives they never had. So they rather distract their children or cater to them emotionally no matter the consequences of no discipline. I guess they're trying their best, but imo it's entirely pathetic.
Those kids' dopamine receptors are absolutely fried, they get even more bored in class than the previous generation because they literally do not know life without phones. They literally can't exist without a phone. How is that child gonna learn anything if it yearns for the screen
Comments like these seem to come from those who don't live with children nor parents themselves that's why it's easy for them to blame it all to the parents
@@user-dv9xx3yy8v excuse me I have younger siblings and live with my parents, yes children do things on their own, but the parents is where it starts, how it continues, and essentially how they turn out. If the parent lets intake dumb shi, no supervision, not caring for what they do, ofc those kids are going to turn out intolerable.
I think Sephora is gladly benefiting of these craziness, they're buying more than regular adults that know what they want and what their skin needs, these kids are getting everything they can get their hands on and everything TikTok tells them they need! So I think Sephora is secretly happy about this because it's business after all, and if these kids' parents don't care about their kids ruining their skin so early, ruining their childhood and becoming unbearable frivolous brats than why Sephora would, right? I'm starting to think they're strategically placing the stores near children because they're potential customers.

I'm a teacher in a title 1 elementary school, and it's not THAT bad. Are there kids who are below grade level? Absolutely. Do they leave the school not knowing their alphabet? No, no one who has been in our school for more than 2 years lacks alphabetic knowledge. Reading is a bigger issue - just because you know your ABCs doesn't mean you know how to use them, and there definitely ARE 5th graders who read at a 1st or 2nd grade level.
when i was in middle school i was OBSESSED with skincared (primarily face masks) bc i used face masks so often i started breakingg out a lot. the best thing i ever did for my skin was stop putting things on my face
the only "skincare" I did as a 10-year-old was when me & my friends went to the river, have a swim, and then put red clay from the riverbank on our faces and body, and sun-bathed until we look like The Thing from Fantastic 4....good times..
Good point on the lack of delayed gratification for the younger generations. I know people around 20 who literally can't handle being in silence, they always need something playing. This never let's them explore their thoughts without stimuli, which imo really helps with knowing oneself and feeling comfortable with who you are, since you regularly just take time to think really deep on concepts without being handheld by some sort media.
11:00 Tbh I normally have the tv on talking at me while I scroll Reddit, or play a handheld console. There’s something relaxing about having talking on while reading or playing games. Old people probably did the same thing but with the radio while reading the paper or gardening. I think its a universal experience
I quit teaching in 2015 due to the ignorance of kids who also refuse to listen in class and school started allowing personal phones and ipad use WHILE we are teaching. The violence from America's kids is unknown unless you've been a teacher of this generation. I had many good years as a teacher until then. Middle school and HS, too.
I Think It Depends On The Teaching Style Whether It's Authorian, Strict, Chill, Ect. Because It's A Hit Or Miss On Which Teacher You Get For Every School Year Because You'll Get A Chill Teacher Or A Strict Teacher.
I'm coming to realize that the kid currently living rent free in my belly is gonna be a freaking GENIUS if this is the trajectory of their future competition. A+ offspring and all I have to do is actually parent? Sweet.
its important that, in discussions like these, to NOT put the blame on the child. we have to acknowledge that this is heavily influenced by their parents and the algorithm thats being pushed down their throats. we should NOT recycle the same boomer logic we tried so hard reject. (not saying he does that in the video just a reminder) also as a kid i was making a potion with my brother and we only tried to use smelly things, but then it turned out smelling really good. thats how we found out abt aloe vera
I remember I was considered young starting prescription retinoids at 17 but it was for a diagnosed skin condition and I had to use spf and follow directions carefully. I had to be careful outside and slowly up the dose over the years. It’s crazy these kids are getting it OTC with no guidance whatsoever
i will never understand how can you have a kid without spending time with them, taking care of them, have some interest in their hobbies and stuff? if you don’t want to parent why have a kid in the first place? i used to work at school and by looking at children it’s very very obvious which one is loved and actually wanted in their family and which one is not
Now that I think about it...the fun and awkward phase disappears in a lot of things. Weird K-Pop debuts? They're (almost) nonexistent. Sims? Sims is inteded to be a weird and fun game, but the sims community now thinks it's cringe. They want to reenact the influencer lifestyle or something where everything seems to be perfect. Idk...I miss the cringe.
me too at least people had fun just imagine being picture perfect every day of your life you dont experiment, you dont find communities, you arent interested in kids stuff like games and stuff like these little kids are just completely skipping their childhood they just want to be an adult now which is not even their fault kids are basically blank slates that grow from things they absorb, how your parents treat you, what your told, literally one interaction could shape a childs conception of something like, someone says they are fat they could internalize that and they could grow up thinking they are fat, and maybe a kid could get on the wrong bus and form abandonment issues literally kids are easily molded so easily so if tge only thing they are looking at is tiktok where ppl on tiktok are only trying to sell products and views (that in the end just makes you want to buy a product) this outcome isn't even that surprising its just sad because these kids are really going to regret it when they grow up and realize they never had a childhood cause they were hyper focused on how they looked or what clothes are the most expensive and trendy instead of ranting about a game and running around in dirt and roleplaying with friends or something
i agree with the first part but since when did the sims community hate the sims for cringiness?😭 us sims players live in a hellhole but the hellhole is only a hellhole because everything is overpriced (not meant to be offensive btw, just thought it was silly lmao)
Funny thing is, I am 51 and I use cheaper skin products than those children. 😁 I look fine btw. You don't need anything until you are at least 20 or even over.
I don't feel like my skin needed anything else than a sunscreen and a decent moisturizer until I hit the ripe age of 26, now I do see my skin could use some extra steps on my routine, but back to a couple of years ago, a simple face wash from neutrogena and some moisturizer was enough
Except for sunscreen. Anyone at risk for sunburn who are spending time outdoors in extremely UV-high days need sunscreen, doesn't matter if they are 1 year old (it's their parents' job) or 20. Sunburn is bad.
If the kids have more money than you, then they will spend it how they want. This isn't about them looking young, they are just emulating skincare people on the internet. The only problem we should have about this is for the workers who have to clean up their mess. And it's also not our problem if they age their skin, that's between the kids and their parents.
I’ve had severe acne and pcos ever since I was a teenager so my skin is always crappy. However, now that I’m 21 my skin is smooth and I barely use any expensive products. I just buy something that reacts well with my skin and it’s a lot less expensive that any of those products and it does the same, if not any better. And I just use a cleanser, micellar water, anti acne cream and a moisturizer. I only have a bit of hyperpigmentation but it’s much better.
i'm 27 and i grew up with asepxia ads being specifically targeted at preteens and teens with hormonal acne shoving a bunch of incredibly harsh physical exfoliants and scrubs that absolutely ruined my skin and did nothing for me, but we didn't really have easily available info so we just trusted the tv. i feel like the teenage brainrot has always been there, them going straight for acids is just a different type of brainrot coming from tiktok instead of tv
The thing is, clueless parents probably thinking they are doing good for their kids cause these are grooming products, and just thankful their kids are into hygiene.
There is definitely a line between no "tech time", which can genuinely hinder them as in this day and age a baseline knowledge of how all this stuff works is essential, and - "here kid let this device consume all your time, attention, and existence bc I don't actually wanna parent you so eh whatever." Like girl, being a non abusive parent doesn't mean becoming an innatentive, negligent one.
My skincare routine literally only includes sunscreen and removing my makeup at the end of the day with an alcohol based astringent. No retinols or anything for anti-aging and I always get compliments on how clear and healthy my skin looks. Everyone new that I meet always assumes that I am in my mid 20s when I am actually in my 30s. It's kind of wild seeing teenagers who look oddly older than I am spending easily 10x the amount on cosmetics as I do.
Ouch, alcohol based astringent doesn’t remove sunscreen that well and dries out your skin long term, or it can cause your skin to generate more oil to compensate. It would be pretty cheap and easy to just switch it to a gentle cleanser and moisturiser at night.
I am 13, and I have a prescribed skincare routine. It’s literally all acne stuff. Not to sound like a big ol’ bully, but so many girls at my school do their skincare routines while in school. It’s drunk elephant and glow recipe a lot, and so much of it it’s anti-aging and tightening. Now that we have so much social media, it exposes us to adults skin and fashion and hair. Videos of adults doing their TikTok skincare routine makes little girls want to look like them.
I think it's a concerning development and I really hope that someday, there will be a better balance between the on and offline somehow. Whatever they prescribed you, if it's hormone based I beg you to try mare milk soap instead. It's soap made from horse milk, no chemicals. It's the only thing you need to combat acne if you ask me. And a looooot cheaper than most skin products.
My friend went to Sephora the other day and she was happy to see that a woman was teaching a young girl about skincare products. Like she was walking with her, showing her products and explaining what each product did, and which products are for adults and which one are for kids. I feel like this is a good way to teach kids about skincare, people just need to take some time and have patience to educate their kids.
My bff is a history teacher and on one class with 7th graders he put on a video that was "very popular back in the early days of Tumblr" (so you can guess the humor on it was the ironic kind) but the kids literally didn't get it at all, which surprised and worried him a lot.
@@nou.5822 He explained it to me but didn't say which one, apparently the chick that appeared on it made a lot of comments about going to a Beyoncé concert+ it was about the world in general.
I’m in my 30s. Normally I hear about these topics directly from you, but I heard about this one from another friend the other day who is more in the know than me. I am genuinely concerned with kiddos that young having intense skincare routines. If they’re using harsh products it could be harmful for them in the long term. :(
i would be lying if i said i wasn't interested in makeup as a pre-teen but it's certainly not the case for skin care and i'm greatful for it. i didn't do skincare until i turned 15 and ONLY due pimples/achnes, honestly "aging" never even came up as a thought, and at the age of 21 it still doesn't. it's really devastating to see parents & tiktok spread these awful agendas that kids need to worry about aging & wrinkles, like do better! yes we will get wrinkly eventually but it's nothing scary, don't understand tiktok's collective fear of aging in general but i won't get into that right now. we live in such a dystopian society currently and we can only hope that it'll get better somehow...
1:21 my mom worked at a historical site when I was little(where you dress up and educate people) and brought me along with her so I actually did play with the wheel and stick, it was boring!!!!!
I think a big problem is that the blame is misplaced. the parents shouldn't support this, but every single parent knows kids aren't the easiest to discourage. kids don't realize they don't need it. the companies making these products encourage this behavior, with their marketing being very centered around influencer hauls and brand deals. i've seen skincare fan accounts, definitely from 8-12 year old girls. "preteen" is dead, is the phrase i've heard around this. they don't have anywhere else to go but the mall, and they don't get enough internet restriction, even LESS than I had in 2013, and I still saw shit. the internet is too big, and monetized, it's a scary thing and we shouldn't "bully" these kids, we should try to protect them and explain in an understandable and kind way why this is a bad decision.
i love how pleasant and calming your tone of voice is. i've already seen videos on this topic but i'm watching yours because you're one of the rare youtubers who doesn't make me feel like i'm being yelled at. i really love this about you ❤
I can kinda relate to the childhood’s of these IPad kids. As a kid growing up during some hard times. My parents didn’t have the time to watch me while I did kid stuff like going outside. I would literally ask to go outside and bike. But since we live in a largely populated city and they didn’t have the time or TRUST when I was older. I was never able to be a kid and then a teen. And even books were limited. So I grew up on TV and technology. And I KNOW those communities I was in influenced me. In my case I found myself in art communities and fandom as a young kid. And I know that when I saw art supplies videos I wanted everything shown. Thankfully I had other relationships like genuine friendships and reality to ground me.
10:45 - being able to binge and use social media does not make you tech savvy for sure. A lot of younger generations are not even sure what lays beyond Instagram or TikTok..
The older I get the more I realize it’s basically a matter of your genes and if you’re able to wash and moisturize your face every day. I’m so glad I don’t even shop in Sephora besides their app. Always a great video from you ❤️
The sad thing is, using age inappropriate skin care is actually AGING them. That’s right, all this stuff they’re doing to their developing skin does damage so by the time they’re in their 20’s, there’s a huge chance they’ll look like they’re pushing 30’s. I’m 32, but regularly told I look like I’m in my early to mid twenties. I didn’t use any products when I was young and now I only use very minimal products. I regularly go into college campuses and see kids that are 18-21 but look like they are pushing 35 because of all the work they’ve got done to their face (because they can never get the results they want from skin care alone so they move on to procedures which is becoming a huge problem for this crowd). These kids also don’t understand that the skin care they’re relying on is only a small part of the beauty equation. If they don’t eat healthy or work out, they will age pretty quickly. Look at older influencers who look young; you’re going to see a lot of emphasis on health routines and minimal products….that’s who they should be learning from and not other young people who could literally wreck themselves and still look young because they ARE still young.
I’m a young teen but I’m absolutely mortified by the behavior of the 10-6 year olds in my area. I went to Sephora just because I needed makeup for an event and there were about 5 of these young girls with retinol and chemical peeling solutions or whatnot in their bags. These children are going to ruin their skin waaayyyy to much before they even turn 18.
one of my biggest peeves is when someone take skincare or makeup testers and applies it DIRECTLY on their face like thats just gonna make your skin DIRTIER
I got into skincare a bit at around 10 but all I wanted were face masks and nose strips. Now nearing the age of 24 I use face wash, hyaluronic acid, and moisturizer. Children don’t need to go crazy especially since they’re gonna go through hormonal acne that’s almost impossible to get rid of.
Another problem is that all of these products are so out of reach for most people. Im 17 and when i was 10/11, slime, fidget spinners, and squishies were trendy, but they were all relatively cheap products that my parents were willing to buy me. A lot of 10 year olds now wont be able to partake in these trends because their families cant afford it, or because their families just wont be willing to spend that much on what they think might be a phase. Now parents have to choose between emptying their wallets or risking their children being alienated from their peers 😭
i'm glad that, as an 8th grader, i am NOTHING like these children. i may be online a lot, but i'm not raiding sephora stores for skincare. heck, i don't even wear makeup
You nailed it on the head of how younger generations are afraid to be cringe. We millennials had the beginning of technology and the internet, but a lot of what we did growing up was never filmed or streamed for thousands of strangers because tech wasn't fully there yet. With how easy it is nowadays for random people to be cut-throat in the comments and DMs, Im betting these kids feel that they have to be (and look) flawless because we have scared and shamed them into perfectionism.
I am a 13 year old who does go into Sephora BUT as an asian, respect is very important to me. I never use the samples and if I do, I always put it back the way I found it. I am embarrassed to be a part of this generation.
i feel extremely sorry for these kids. they’re not even being made for the real world … also they’re wasting so much product. a lot of this shit cancels each other out if applied improperly. especially if you don’t pace everything 15 minutes apart. skincare is an hour of my day and i only ever have 4 steps, max (if it’s a mask or serum day.) thank god i don’t do makeup daily or that’s easily 2hrs in the morning of getting ready. anyways, yeah … these kids are unreal. but what is even more unreal is their enablers (the “adults” in their lives)
I know that it’s “trendy” to talk about how gen alpha is doomed but truly I am so worried for some of these kids. I know that it’s easy to plop a kid in front of a tablet or tv and call it a day but I’ve seen firsthand how that can mess up a kid.
I don’t even know what half those products do. All I do is wash my face with micellar water and use a Nivea moisturiser that someone gifted me for Christmas or something and I get so many compliments on my skin. (I also just don’t wear foundation, i find it uncomfortable) I get the occasional little break out because I’m human and my skin is never gunna be perfect but like I’ve never felt the need for all these wild products
I don't think using many skin products is necessarily the biggest problem. If you are an adult, and buy your own skincare, in the end it's your educated choice. I am a member of that group of people and need a very specific set of cleansers and moisturisers that are on the expensive side because my skin has always been crazy because of some hormonal issues. The problem is that these are kids who haven't even had their first zit, their skin is smooth as a peach. They are ruining their faces for the future with overpriced mumbo jumbo, if this is what they are doing now, what will they be using when they actually get older?.....also why are their parents giving them money for all these things? When I was little I would get my allowance for a fun toy or a ticket to a cinema to go with friends...
One note: gen alpha are not tech savvy. they know how to use an ipad but that doesn't mean they know how they work or how to fix them. it's essentially magic to them. it's going to be a serious issue quite quickly as none of the computer or internet basics are being taught. gen a and gen z are the people i teach who don't know how to save their work or not to click on suspicious links. most of them can't type or know what a 'file' is, let alone a directory or basic maintenance.
Hi guys. So I would just like to say that this is not all of us 10-12 year olds. I am almost a teen and I have never been to a Sephora or any makeup store. I am sure that there are more tweens other than me who are like this. However, to the people who are doing this, please leave the sephoras and head to a library. Books are so amazing and interesting. Personally here are some recommendations for kids around my age: Legend (By: Marie Lu), Hunger Games, The Inheritance Games (by: Jennifer Lynn Barnes), and Harry Potter. Personally these are some of my favorites and I am urging kids my age to read instead of ruining makeup stores.
I’m 13 and I also have some books for people my age: The Fault in Our Stars (John Green), Unfamiliar (Haley Newsome), Looking for Alaska (Also John Green), and Wings of Fire (Tui T. Sutherland) :D
I’m going to give you some advice from an old head according to the internet. Don’t worry about what the internet thinks. Every generation thinks poorly of the next generation, so don’t feel like you need to defend them, or compare yourself to them. Also, you nice you get older and want to complain about the next generation, remember how these people view your generation. Also you should read the book *the outsiders* by S.E Hinton if you haven’t. It might be a little older than you’re used to, but a very fun read if you didn’t need to in school.
I am a teacher, so I'd like to give you the perspective of someone who has been where you are and who sees school from the other side. When you are a bright young person, you tend to self-select friends who are other bright, well behaved young people. Teachers do not get to select which children we spend time with, nor do many other adult workers. Because of this, you tend to underestimate how much of your generation is like this (as I did when young) while adults who are only exposed to kids online tend to overestimate the situation. The truth is generally somewhere in the middle. There are many intelligent and well behaved members of gen alpha. But there are enough unusually behaved and destructive members of this generation to be concerning as well.
7:46 I dunno if this is what you meant as soap potions but when I was younger I would grab a bar of soap a bin and random fabrics I would fill the bin and add 3/4 of water use my nails and skim some of the soup and then throw it in the bin I would throw the fabric in and then finally with the rest of soup I would stir it in the bin to make a bubbly but deadly as I almost drank it once concoction!
I find with the Sephora pre-teens so much of this issue is more than just “parents give kids too much access online.” While the root cause is by far ‘technology’ I think people forget a lot of it does stem more from capitalism, over consumption, and influencers. A lot of this is because I don’t think influencers need to be bad people or even it being short form tiktok content that is part of the issue. Beauty content since I was a teen has always pressured over consumption- when I was younger it was needed ton of make up products that weren’t always cheap. It was about hoarding makeup that would go bad with the amount of options given, and truly I don’t think every person in the genre was bad that parents could directly see they were “bad” by watching either. Now as the time shifts to skin care it’s just the same, companies crave influencers to pressure and sell to a vulnerable audience of teens who don’t really understand what a lot of money is. In this case specifically I don’t think it’s just “but they have phones/iPads” because I had a home computer and barely any restrictions when I was 10 technology is a factor but not sole cause. Parents can be blamed for a lot here; I think lack of teaching manners and store etiquette being a big one, and while having unlimited access to the internet has major problems in general I think by dodging how companies and influencers have a major role in at least the Sephora outcry we bypass how predatory companies are genuinely trying to be and how consumerism of the beauty industry is trying to target pre-teen girls into thinking they need 800$ of products
14:22 everybody knows at this point that even skincare products have an expiration date on the bottle. Mostly it lasts for a year or until it dried up. So if you have like thousands of those products, you’ll be like drowning on those expired skincare
When I was a child (around 10), I was interested in skin care too and wanted to use the same products my mother used. She didn't let me use them of course and told me that they're gonna do more harm than good to my young skin and instead bought me my own products I could use safely, like a face soap, a moisturiser and a lip balm, all in cute little pink bottles. I was happy with that and now I realise that for me it wasn't about having perfect skin (as a 10 y/o I already had that lol), it was more about the feeling of doing something my role model (my mother, for some kids today maybe influencers) does as well
This year I'll turn 40. I'm a woman and i never got used to makeup and stuff like this. Yes, I have wrinkles but still most time I get called I'm 20. Hell yeah, I feel like 16 inside
the only problem i have with the sephora kids is it’s spreading, i work at an ulta at target and we have only makeup testers and the amount of foundation that has been put around our isles is absolutely insane and it’s so rough bc i don’t get paid enough to deal with that headache honestly
in elementary i once wore a salmon pink tiered skirt dress with flared jeans and a pink hoodie and bright green sneakers LMAO my mom was a little too supportive
1:28 to be fair, I didn't use moisturizer on my face till I was probably about 15. My makeup 'routine' consisted of masquera and chapstick until I was about 25. To this day, I still barely wear makeup. Skincare has become more important- but im nearly 40 years old now and protecting my skin from the sun is a must.
I recently started working at a boutique store and was stunned to find out asides from the manager I was the oldest one there. I’m 28 and thought my coworkers were all in their early to mid twenties but was stunned when I found out most are still seniors in high school and they are stunned to find out my age (makes me feel good ngl but it’s crazy!)
As a currently teen, i understand how ridiculous this all is, yet sometimes I still feel bad about the fact that I'm practically the only one in my class who can't afford expensive skin care and make up products 😭 I'm a teenager!!! of course I'm gonna get a pimple or two!! it's not the most uncommon thing in the world sister!!!! I am the weakest link 💔
No you are not the weakest link, rather. You'll find it's better to go against this trend and use that money for things you enjoy doing instead. Back when I was in school it wasn't even a thing to use skin care products regularly, and being a millennial, that wasn't too long ago. Most of the trash they sell in beauty stores isn't actually as good for your skin as they want you to believe and is quite overpriced. You pay more for the marketing and logistics around the product than the product itself, which is most likely cheaply produced somewhere where costs are low. So don't ever believe in hype, for it's just a way to get people investing their money in things they don't need. The best skin care is simple and cheap. Horse milk soap against acne should be enough. Even regular soap should already do a lot.
as a kid who was born in 08 i sometimes made shampoo potions as well as play outside and have fun outside, now I'm just concern of how life is going to be like years to come.
i feel like looking at young children misbehaving also makes people not like kids/not want to have kids, which is understandable and im not saying people HAVE to have kids, but if you put in so much effort just for the child to be swayed by what they see online, who would want to put in the effort anymore? its easier to just have a dog or smth, still the same emotions, without the hassle

*Holy shit, in retrospect reading fanfictions really DID put me on a higher reading level than other kids... Why am I NOW REALIZING THIS?*
I literally significantly upgraded my english skills and vocabulary reading fansiction in english (it's not my first language). This helped me with work in several places when I moved in another non-english speaking country (I knew their language too, but people who know english is still rare there). Of course a lot of fanfics' vocabulary are not usable in everyday life and at work (lol), but I am very grateful for ao3.😅 At the beginning I literally had to translate every other word during reading.
@volhan.p.9722 Oh no, I forgot all about AO3.😂 Believe it or not, I actually found a few genuinely incredible fanfics there -- well-written, descriptive but not excessively so, well-fleshed out characters and scenarios, no typos. Those 20+ chapter stories could have honestly been made into books. This makes me want to go back and try to find them.
@@sluttymctits4496 oh, there's a lot of good fanfictions there. If fanfic is good, I just stick with this author for a while, chances are most of their fanfics would be good.

i thought the same thing about the packaging lol. i love me a cutesy package. these look so boring and plain, even now i don't gravitate towards them at all. as a kid i would've seen them as "adult" because adult products are never fun-looking
It’s literally just a)whatever they as desirable- When I was a kid it was impulse body sprays, but difference was they cost 1.99 b) Drunk elephant knew they cottoned onto something with their ‘skincare smoothies’ though. Oh, it looks like a flower! Now mash it up with other stuff!
The colorful packaging is probably a big drawer.
Drunk elephant isn't even good. They have their own employees create fake reviews on websites to hype their products up

It weirds me out that kids are so into skincare. “Look ten years younger!” So… you wanna look… TWO YEARS OLD??? The memories of my acne and changing skin mixed with the idea of putting all these products on before my skin even settles hurts my chest

I saw on the news just yesterday a warning issued to the parents of these kids because yeah using stuff like retinol at 12 will screw up your skin big time unless you actually need it for an acne condition in which case you would be prescribed pure retinol from a dermatologist.. retinol forces your skin to shed faster than normal. We should certainly gate keep skincare when it comes to kids who are going to be doing more damage than good to their skin at such a young age. Kids don’t need any skincare like this and it’s dystopian how much these brands are profiting from it. If any kids wanted genuine advice about skincare, it would be to wear sunscreen daily to protect their skin. Does not need to be fancy sunscreen just something 50 SPF+. Maybe a lip balm if they want. That’s all they need. These Sephora products etc are not necessary, or designed for young skin.

You shouldn't be scared or guilty. They get paid to help you find what you need. As long as you treat them with kindness and respect, you are doing 10x better than these degenerate kids and karens and have nothing to worry about.
I remember having this conversation with a 16 year old that seriously though reaching your 20s was being "middle aged"
Which...
If you simply googled it you would know instantly what middle age is, but this kid was just taking seriously all the adult people she saw in TikTok about how being in your 20's was "being ancient" and completely ran with it until she made a fool of herself in social media
What bothers me most about this generation is that, I feel like this permanent ease of the internet has completely killed young people's curiosity to just...
I understand if it's like a 12-15 year old wanting to start using a SUBTLE skincare because that's when puberty happens, but there is zero excuse for a 8 year old to be using it..
to be fair i've had horrible acne for 10 years, it started when I was 8 so I contest that point, but looking at these children using these products its clear they have no need for it.

I feel as though I’d still be stuck in that mindset if I had

my thing with the alphabet stuff... like in kindergarten and first grade there were months dedicated to being taught this. workbooks just filling pages in copying undercase/uppercase letters within the lines until we can. how that's not working (happening??) somehow is beyond me.
Yeah school expects alot of this to be already known now by the kids and call them behind because they don't
as a former school employee; a lot of schools got rid of holding kids back, and theres no consequences for disrespectful or abusive behavior. these kids dont WANT to learn, and the school is too afraid of the parents to do anything to help them.
Parents aren’t working with their kids at home or reading to them and making sure they really understand stuff at school
@@qryptidI think instead of an IPad an actual computer would be better. Using keys help kids learn letters andthe ability to use keys is a motor skill. @@Widdekuu91 Yes. Absolutely. Every time.

I think Sephora is gladly benefiting of these craziness, they're buying more than regular adults that know what they want and what their skin needs, these kids are getting everything they can get their hands on and everything TikTok tells them they need!
Do you know what video it was?
@@nou.5822 He explained it to me but didn't say which one, apparently the chick that appeared on it made a lot of comments about going to a Beyoncé concert+ it was about the world in general.
I’m in my 30s. Normally I hear about these topics directly from you, but I heard about this one from another friend the other day who is more in the know than me. I am genuinely concerned with kiddos that young having intense skincare routines. If they’re using harsh products it could be harmful for them in the long term. :(
Could even be making their skin actually age instead
i would be lying if i said i wasn't interested in makeup as a pre-teen but it's certainly not the case for skin care and i'm greatful for it. i didn't do skincare until i turned 15 and ONLY due pimples/achnes, honestly "aging" never even came up as a thought, and at the age of 21 it still doesn't. it's really devastating to see parents & tiktok spread these awful agendas that kids need to worry about aging & wrinkles, like do better! yes we will get wrinkly eventually but it's nothing scary, don't understand tiktok's collective fear of aging in general but i won't get into that right now. we live in such a dystopian society currently and we can only hope that it'll get better somehow...

Always a great video from you ❤️
One of the best childhood memories was laying on the floor and staring at the ceiling fan 🥲
Totally agree about hunger games, it's very educational in teaching youngsters revolution even when necessary, isn't without sacrifice & cost.
When I was 12 i used to play with fridge light 😅😂 😊
I’m a young teen but I’m absolutely mortified by the behavior of the 10-6 year olds in my area. I went to Sephora just because I needed makeup for an event and there were about 5 of these young girls with retinol and chemical peeling solutions or whatnot in their bags. These children are going to ruin their skin waaayyyy to much before they even turn 18.
I was also both a soap potion and mud concoction kid lol
same
same lol
one of my biggest peeves is when someone take skincare or makeup testers and applies it DIRECTLY on their face like thats just gonna make your skin DIRTIER
4:27 Most iconic quote
Dog skin care routine??!! Is the burning desire to know if this really exists going to be the reason I finally download TikTok??
No.
You know Tik Tok also has a website, right? just quickly google the video online, then never touch the website again.
I am embarrassed to be a part of this generation.
i feel extremely sorry for these kids. they’re not even being made for the real world … also they’re wasting so much product. a lot of this shit cancels each other out if applied improperly. especially if you don’t pace everything 15 minutes apart. skincare is an hour of my day and i only ever have 4 steps, max (if it’s a mask or serum day.)
thank god i don’t do makeup daily or that’s easily 2hrs in the morning of getting ready.
anyways, yeah … these kids are unreal. but what is even more unreal is their enablers (the “adults” in their lives)
This explains why when I was at a pharmacy once I overheard a mum say “you don’t need anti-aging you’re 12!”
I’m glad you been doing less episodes but there So meaningful these past few months. Thanks!
I know that it’s “trendy” to talk about how gen alpha is doomed but truly I am so worried for some of these kids. I know that it’s easy to plop a kid in front of a tablet or tv and call it a day but I’ve seen firsthand how that can mess up a kid.
There is nothing about Drunk Elephant's packaging that screams "child" to me.
I don’t even know what half those products do. All I do is wash my face with micellar water and use a Nivea moisturiser that someone gifted me for Christmas or something and I get so many compliments on my skin. (I also just don’t wear foundation, i find it uncomfortable)
I get the occasional little break out because I’m human and my skin is never gunna be perfect but like I’ve never felt the need for all these wild products
I’m gonna need more information on the spider display. You can’t leave me hanging like that!
It's a challenging job nowadays especially, to parent preteen children and for kids to grow up now!
There are plenty of young teens who don’t wreck makeup and skincare, but the book kids it they don’t make it into the media 😂
I’m 13 and I also have some books for people my age: The Fault in Our Stars (John Green), Unfamiliar (Haley Newsome), Looking for Alaska (Also John Green), and Wings of Fire (Tui T. Sutherland)
:D
I burst out laughing at "I"m pretty sure I can BEAT a child" lol I was not expecting that
When I was a child (around 10), I was interested in skin care too and wanted to use the same products my mother used.
- were you a soap potions kind of kid?
- yes
- ...or a mud soup kind of kid?
- also yes
- i think i was both
- THATS WHAT IM SAYING
Was totally a soap potions kid, but if I played more outside I would be mixing mud with my soap lol
wow as a 15 y/o my skincare routine is literally just cerave face wash and then a salicylic acid wipe
I just wish they could make those stores 18+ or only accompanied by an adult.
I know it doesn’t help now, but your skin will be better for it in the long run! Hang in there 🩷
as a kid who was born in 08 i sometimes made shampoo potions as well as play outside and have fun outside, now I'm just concern of how life is going to be like years to come.
i feel like looking at young children misbehaving also makes people not like kids/not want to have kids, which is understandable and im not saying people HAVE to have kids, but if you put in so much effort just for the child to be swayed by what they see online, who would want to put in the effort anymore? its easier to just have a dog or smth, still the same emotions, without the hassle
