Dude I know your focused on producing and putting out music, (which is great! great job! congrats!) you should be interlocking your artistry with a module company. cause your synths are definitely gird sounding. and shits hella fun for you it seems.
Thanks! Just the video I've been waiting for! I have a similar plywood monster based around a Midibox 808 sequencer. If the Beatstep Pro was out I would have just bought that, but ah well.... it wasn't. And the Midibox 808 seq is very good
Love all this home built Arduino stuff and your channel is ace. I've built an Arduino drone synth and now I'm making an experimental (no step sequencer) drum machine on an Arduino. I like the sound of that Arduino midi file player you mention at 7:21, have you got any links to more info?
Yes! I'm so glad you posted this since i've always been intrigued with that big modular and how it sounds so phat! ya know you're one of the main inspirations that got me into modular synths, and now i've got an ever growing eurorack i made from diy kits & pcb's n such.. and after this i think i might be getting some hexinverter mutant kits..
I'm really glad you posted a filter schematic! But I am a hungry bloke and I would really like to see if you have schematics for the rest of the modules, especially your other filters and oscillators :)
Love the channel, would like to catch you live sometimes, maybe the next time in Germany. Till then would you please share some knowledge about that midi2trigg box. Would love to build one myself.
Did your Mum ever have a copy of the White Noise Lp, 'Electric Storm in Hell'.? A masterpiece in sounds electronically processed and tape splicing. David Vorhaus, BBC Radiophonic Workshop 1969. Half a century later it still cuts it!
Cool vlog! :) Will you make (or you've did?) a tutorial on DIY exponential converters? I've used few of them but still can't get where to use it and where not... What's the difference between using it in a "starving oscillator" schematic and a current controlled oscillator? Please, make a video if you're good in this!
Hello Sam! ( Yes im investigate and searching new tricks even on your old vidéos 😅) At some point you are talking about this switch you made to keep the Braids in tune. Can you explain me how this switch actualy technicaly works? Im looking for a quick way to keep my VCO always in tune when i control them by midi to CV ( Digitakt controlers) playing melodies live. From now i'm using tuners passing all my VCO's before the gig which is pretty long and annoying 🙄. Thanks in advance!
i'd absolutely love if you made a series on how to make each of these modules for people who arent necessarily experts at electrical engineering. i've wanted to get into modular for years and years but i havent because i can't afford to buy fancy modules, and i get overwhelmed and confused hearing electrical jargon.
all midi, no analog sequencing? been dreading getting into midi for some reason myself. probably be cause I'm better at logic and analog than i am at coding. thanks for sharing.
Borgar same! Just that's exactly the reason I got into midi. Because alas. To get the level of sequencing I want out of it all. It needs to be digital as I want to replicate it etc etc. Coding midi translation boxes is easy and I'll get into that.. Then you have all of the midi sequencers that you don't need to code! However there are suddenly this last year or so some really good sequencers with cv outs.
I made my own sequencer with step repetition, gate modes etc with Cmos. It can do a lot of stuff, but no where near the almighty midi. then again, I'm not sure I want to turn around mid jam to change the sequence on a laptop.. I'll keep it on hold for a while and keep an eye out for your future vid on the subject. the sequencer is the big mutha on top row if you are interested ibb.co/mQ9Qpk
Your systems are pure inspiration. I want to know more about this arduino MIDI file player, I am frustrated there is not much out there on similar projects, nor are there many shelf products that play midi files or have a "song mode" these days. I for one, am sick of chaining together loops when, I could be conducting the timbralities of a song the way I wrote it... Does the MIDI player put out all the CCs?
Thanks for sharing, I'm in the process of building mine just finished the design and build of my power supply, the midi player looks interesting are there any links for it?
Dope work ! Would like to know more about that diode distortion/low pass gate ! A few questions : Did you modified the filter circuit to work on 12v or does it runs fine like it is ? What the switch on braids is for ? octave switch ? how do you implimented that ?!
Just subscribed to your channel LMNC and it is amazing. Very informative too. Do you take any suggestions for possible video content in the future? Cheers
Man, I appreciate your efforts! :) Did you've made digital switches? I understand that you like all things that click and snap and stuff... But what if you need to route your channels in pairs (as a good example). So it will be a "choice button". Is it possible just by pressing a tactile button? CD4017 + 4052 or only CD4052 somehow?
Where can I go for tutorials and what not go get started with building my own analogue gear? I'm an electrician so I have *some* understanding of the electrical and wavelength components involved with synths, but trying to just fly by the seat of my pants for my first build is a little crazy. How'd you start figuring all of this stuff out? It's super impressive.
Do a full video on modular synthesizers with your own hand))))) (FULL DIY) VCO VCF VCA LFO MIXER SEQ8 + FX + (power supply) sorry of my bad english)))))) im from russia
is there any plans for making these things? i dont know at all about electricity(barely can switch on and off a light) but i'd like to make one of those though.....
yeah my bad. i didnt word it very well. basically every single oscillator i build basically has a preset tuning switch. all it is is just a switch that switches over to an internal preset pot. so all of them are in tune. works for me!
It's a handy thing to do! I added a similar switch and pot to several of my 5U VCOs a couple years ago. There's some info about what I did in this thread on Muff's site: www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1829400
I have a question? Whenever I see a person using a modular synth, they usually don't play it with keyboards at all, but when they do it's pretty much a small one like a Keystep or something. What's the problem with just using a bigger midi keyboard? can modulars only play certain octaves? Does it have something to do with voltage?
I have a noob question. Am I right in saying that behind the scenes, only voltage information is being processed? And that the only time it actually turns into a sound is at the speaker?
You're right, you can even feed "Sound" into voltage inputs, or use voltage inputs as sound, it's completely free and modular and that's what makes it fun!
Ok so i've got a eurorack and its costing me FAR too much haha, so i'm really wanting to get into the DiY, the RYO optodist would you say thats a ok project for a begginer?
Nice i look forward to it!!! Defo my fav channel right now is yours!!! BY FAR!!! Loved your Dublin Moog performance someone posted a full performance from you singing it was shit hot me and your mum are proud lad!
I'd be so scared of plugging something in to itself and shorting it. That is not without forebearance! Did that to a set of phono sockets that had no resistance AFAIK.
this is the calmest I've ever seen you lmao
Kye Emily dont you mean lmnc
Lmao yeah he looks so peace and serious lol
Dude I know your focused on producing and putting out music, (which is great! great job! congrats!) you should be interlocking your artistry with a module company. cause your synths are definitely gird sounding. and shits hella fun for you it seems.
This was super fascinating. Always wondered how this all worked. Thanks for sharing!
Great stuff mate!
just saw this cuckoo musta missed it! have a good one in japan!
The tone and the content is perfect man ! Keep continue !
you are like a mad scientist in a good way
Ive learned more watching your vids than I did at music school in months....
Thanks! Just the video I've been waiting for! I have a similar plywood monster based around a Midibox 808 sequencer. If the Beatstep Pro was out I would have just bought that, but ah well.... it wasn't. And the Midibox 808 seq is very good
the last mochican...i salute you dude....keep the spirit alive.
Definitely one of the best modular channels on TH-cam.
LMNC has quickly become my favorite youtube channel. Thanks for all these videos, man. Keep it up!
I barely have an idea of half the terms you're using, but I still understand what you're talking about. Great video series. Keep it up.
Loving the lil MS20 creepin around the background..
Seriously can't express how much i appreciate this video. Thanks for being helpful and entertaining and takin time to do shit like this
I think that's pretty inspiring that you built that whole thing yourself. Well done!
You dont even know how much I love you, you freak
This is some of the sickest shit I've ever seen. Great video man. Awesome setup!
That is kind of the best plan to creates unique sounds. Build your own tools!
I like it a lot!
Thanks for showing us your unique tour synth thing!!! I love custom modular synths. Your modular is a real sweet punk A synth!!!
Thanks for sharing this. I'm gonna have to start soldering soon
ohh man i love your set up ,,, thanks for sharing this much of knowledge
one day I will understand all of this, for now I'm just like a fool in love
Love all this home built Arduino stuff and your channel is ace. I've built an Arduino drone synth and now I'm making an experimental (no step sequencer) drum machine on an Arduino. I like the sound of that Arduino midi file player you mention at 7:21, have you got any links to more info?
wonder the same know pipeorganphil got a sd midi player working with a arduino
Inspiration. Even today. Thank you

sadly! theyve stopped making DIY kits :( as of a month ago!!! if your lucky some sites might still have stock
ah! must have a look on thonk
Are the kits complex?
I'm really glad you posted a filter schematic! But I am a hungry bloke and I would really like to see if you have schematics for the rest of the modules, especially your other filters and oscillators :)
Ben Reeves check out the CEM 3340 data sheet :)
Ben Reeves the matrix mixer is just a tl072 dual opamp per row. Mixing the signals together. At 1/1 gain
Ben Reeves just search up tl072 mixer maybe
Ben Reeves the great thing is you can add a switch which bypasses 1 of the op amps in the dual opamp circuit. And that inverts the signal!
I will eventually build a beast like this! :D
Love the channel, would like to catch you live sometimes, maybe the next time in Germany.
Till then would you please share some knowledge about that midi2trigg box.
Would love to build one myself.
Thanks for the upload, very interesting to see your take on things :) Looking forward to more
always always impressed by your clever work!
Man, you like all them filters man? Hell yeah man! I like them filters too!
Amazing and Original. Learning a lot from your videos!
Love these educational videos
Love what your doing! But show the fire suppression you have on hand ... halon I hope!
Still watching this today!
how did you make the oscillator at 1:42 have multiple wave shapes and stuff? i kinda wanna try making one
Did your Mum ever have a copy of the White Noise Lp, 'Electric Storm in Hell'.? A masterpiece in sounds electronically processed and tape splicing. David Vorhaus, BBC Radiophonic Workshop 1969. Half a century later it still cuts it!
thanks for the excellent walkthrough!
Impressed. More power to you m8!

This is awesome. !!! I want to built those myself
Love the MIDI file player, actually. Makes me wanna use the one on my Disting Mk3 more.

I love it! Battlerack!!
Is that distortion the source of the Look Mum No Computer sound, along with audible DIY?
6:22 NOICE! Terminatoricy! :O
ok that vco sound nice dude 🤯😎
It's clever stuff man, I love pt2399 delay my fav
Dope work !

Nobody can so phlegmatic switch on the oscillators like you do
Thanks for the video! Very inspiring...
hi man can you give the exact schematics there are few on this page / is it the one by rene schmits with the 15v and only res pot?
awesome!
Just subscribed to your channel LMNC and it is amazing. Very informative too.

what are the four drumpad thingys on top of your diy synth

Is there a schematic and/or PCB available for the 4up VCA/mixer module?
You made me want 1/4” cable modular but I’m alright neck Dee into eurorack
I really like your channel. What is your background in electronics? You seem to know a fair bit.
Great stuff !
Crazy but so cool!
Excellent I love your videos and your talent ^^

amazing, puts to shame so many big name synths
And the distortion makes it sound really like................ Nice! Hahaha that's genius!
wow it looks cool
Dude you can re wire my toaster any day 😊 great video man your a true gear head cheers
Can he drill extra holes into the toaster?

will do it one time yes!
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER Do more of this fab videooo ;P
is there any plans for making these things? i dont know at all about electricity(barely can switch on and off a light) but i'd like to make one of those though.....
Damn, i like the look of it all! Modular punk! shiiiit
Added a switch on braids so that its always in tune? What you mean by that? Like your vids man, that filter sounds nice i might build one too!
yeah my bad. i didnt word it very well. basically every single oscillator i build basically has a preset tuning switch. all it is is just a switch that switches over to an internal preset pot. so all of them are in tune. works for me!

But yeah good shit man, imo the prime example that with time & effort you can build killer shit on a low budget.
ZeroTekk oops will sort that when I get back. My bad
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER They are still missing. :-p
Do your knobs go to 11 he he...Awesome stuff.

it's an incredible machine :) !!!!! nice man!!!!
how'd you get into DIYing analogue synth?? can you post some like DIY wiring tutorials? gotdam

ordering 555s and opamps lets fricking gooo

tyskstil 12 :)

My first box is a banana yusynth, also in 20cm X 8cm panels! I used to call it Quincas U, I''ll call it Sam and Quincas U from now on :D

totally :)

hey, the concept actually seems familiar - modern DAW's are basically this but simplified
