Excellent paint job on Boston & Maine EMD GP9 #1741. That "Bluebird" livery looks the best on a Boston & Maine GP9 (in my opinion). I hope that the Railroad Museum of New England applies the same paint scheme to their Boston & Maine GP9 #1732 when it gets restored. That's exciting news about Chesapeake & Ohio #614 being painted back in black, at least on some of its parts. I hope that means it will be restored to its full Chesapeake & Ohio livery and it will be exciting to have it operational again.
September 2024 is finishing up and news are here to finish it: NCRR has a GE 80 tonner, C&O #614 is finally getting restored, CSX Santa train announced, C&NW #175 has parts donated and more epic news. Yay
First of all, I'm very happy about the fact that C&O 614 might be returning to operation soon since I've heard a lot of rumors about the locomotive potentially being announced to return this year without jumping to conclusions. However, my question though is why would it be restored right now? Have opportunities to run the locomotive opened up? Time will tell, but I'm very curious as to why 614 would be restored right now (not that that's a bad thing of course). Also, I would like to apologize for making the comments section more 614 infested LOL. Second of all, I forgot how good the old blue B&M paint scheme was on diesels, gives me Conrail vibes. I will always get a kick out of a good looking diesel. Third of all, great update on C&NW 175. I think it would be pretty cool if she was a part of a photocharter with its sister 1385 as both will soon be operating.
Sincerely, a very good question on the 614! Once I saw the Facebook post, other folks have shown more detailed reports about the locomotive. So far, I have learned that the locomotive will be rebuilt by a private group and could potentially operate on the Buckingham Branch railroad, the same railroad where 611 ran on in the fall of 2023. The main reason why that railroad is because the track between Clifton Forge and Doswell, VA is owned by the state of Virginia. State ownership tracks were the main reason why 611 could go there last year. That also reminds me a while ago, the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (the group in charge of taking over various pieces of mainline track in the state) mentioned in their plan that state-owned tracks would be able to accommodate excursion trains too. Based on what I have learned, this restoration is more promising now, thanks to the state of Virginia. The state itself realized the economic impact the 611 excursions have brought wherever it operated in Virginia since 2015. With many railfans (especially those in this video’s comment section) first reacted after this announcement was made, it’s pretty evident that 614 will be another great railroad tourist attraction. I know this was a lot of information, but this is a very exciting time for trains in Virginia.
If you remember 611 last year, she operated on the Virginia Scenic Railway/Buckingham Branch Railroad. The track it ran on is owned by the state of Virginia, which has been reported to be the main reason why 611 was able to operate there. That railroad Museum out in Nevada that owns GP30 number 844 has just brought back F40PHR number 231 it still needs new traction motors but it just debude it’s returned to service I wanna hear more updates about this museum because their next big project will be Amtrak SDP40F number 644 as far as I know it’s an operating condition it just needs cosmetic work a new paint job into the phase one livery and it’s original Leslie Horn it already has the correct style of gyra lights installed above the cab in between the number boards But here’s a video link of Amtrak 231 back in operation MUed to GP30 number 844 which provided the power according to someone who commented the original traction motors of 231 were damaged by vandalism so they’re raising money to acquire new traction motors th-cam.com/video/xp9lvHibc2c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=w4b2CVhrZGapTTpu
