@@trudownsouth8490 Congratulations on one of the, unfortunately few, truly well specced ( and therefore special) 812's I've seen. Even on video. Mine is in Blu Pozzi w/a mostly blu and cuoio leather and alcantara interior with most of the carbon as yours (ridding the inside of silver plastic) done in Blu fiber. The exterior carbon is standard. It, for sure is very expensive - the sills, painted the color of the exterior, alone had me slowly shaking my head. Yet, options like the airbrushed shields, really do set the car apart and after considering the base price I didn't want to feel a pang of regret every time I opened the hood and looked at the plastic engine covers. I had them done in blu carbon with the front piece signed by the line assemblers in silver then sealed. I've tried to paint a picture of what's possible (without going "tailor made"). If you're in the market for one of these cars or a similar one, go for it and don't hold back. You won't regret it, but you may if you do! Plus, a well specced sports car is the one everyone wants. The F12’s is a classic, timeless design. I’m partial to the TDF, and the styling cues of the SP America were carried over from the newer models of that time. The 812 is the sleek, cool younger brother that blends in with the rest of the lineup rather than stands out. They’re both fantastic, but for me, the F12 will always be truer to the Ferrari heritage.

You're absolutely right re the colour. A 458 in a blue I can't describe, drove by 63rd & 1st on Bothwell St, Saturday night there. It would not have as good in red!
I'd probably opt for the 812, based purely on the fact that it has gold wheels, which always reminds me of the early 1970s F1 Ferraris driven by legendary drivers like Chris Amon and Jacky Ickx; not a great reason, I grant you, but on looks alone there isn't much to choose.

I think both are stunning. Ferrari have done a brilliant job in not making the 812 overshadow the F12 and make it look dated. Either of them could be the latest car.
I prefer 812 Superfast because it is the ultimate expression of NA V12, period. If you could have either F12 or 812 would you really choose the former when you know there is a newer, more powerful iteration out there? The main reason for F12 would be cost.
I don't think too many 12 year olds would be cross shopping F12 and 812 mate. F12 design is nice in the front but the rear design is not great. 812 looks more cohesive overall. Plus the pre-GPF (gas particulate filter) 812 sounds glorious and has a much better engine than F12. As Enzo said, you're buying the engine and the rest he throws in for free. If your budget allows, get the early gen 812. The question is whether you get both 812 SF and GTS..
Great video! You share a lot of my sentiments and personally speaking, and I chose the 812 SF over the F12. I stepped into a Ferrari dealership in late 2020 looking at F12's looking to upgrade from the 911 GT3. Seeing the 812 in person solidified the fact that I much prefer the 812's looks over the F12. All the small updates that aren't that big on their own actually add up to a bigger difference overall, and so I walked out of the dealership telling myself that I'd rather save up a bit more for an 812 rather than settling for an F12. Better exhaust tone/engine sounds, more updated interior controls/looks, higher quality instrument binnacle, Apple CarPlay support, etc. All make it worth waiting a bit more for the 812 than settling for an F12 since I suspect it'll be a car that's in my garage forever.
@@Xolition I made money on the GT3 and have other means of income, so I have no regrets. Car purchases are never investment opportunities for me so I never look at them as a tool to make money. I buy what I like driving and sell when I'm done with the car or the car no longer suits my needs as the GT3 did. I had a baby so it was time to get a family car again, so I said goodbye to the GT3. The 812 will be a great present to myself when it's time.
Love the design of the F12. The uninterrupted lines on the side profile remind me of classic sports cars while the aggressive front & rear are much more daring than the 8. The dream would’ve been an F12 in GTS spec. Lovely video!
812. Although it is a very close distinction. Both cars are strikingly beautiful. The 812 nose and headlight treatment is subtly more refined in my opinion.
I would still get the GTS. The option to roll down the back window and hear that V12 all the time even when it's not good weather is amazing. Not to mention the roof down whenever possible. It's no contest to me! If it were a track focused lightweight mid engine Ferrari It would be another story! As a road car, if it doesn't look bad with the roof up like in this case there is no good reason to not get the convertible since chassis got so good on them in recent years!
JayEmm, Your version of a car review is ‘Best in Class’. Hey Jay love your videos man! One little suggestion if I may, when you do the pure driving footage without commentary etc, please use the sound of not only exhaust mics but also interior ones. I think the sound you hear from within the cabin is an essential part of the experience of any car.
I'd like either one...At least I get compliments with my Corvette. And for what ever reason, my old IROC-Z28 produced lots of negative sentiment. Like having a lit cigarette tossed at it. Even people yelling at me fist in the air. I could never really figure out why. I'm thinking the new C8 is a lot more aggressive looking and may illicit similar responses of hate as it's rather ostentatious looking. Where driving an older model is 'cool.' But, that being said, I'd take either Ferrari. They're both amazing cars.

Most of the public has no clue about where the engine of the car is---front or rear. What they react to is the overall shape and impression. The mid-engine supercars affect the public based on looks only and typically that type of Ferrari appears in movies or on tv and the public forms their opinion that way. Front engined Ferraris are typically never in tv shows or in movies so when the public sees one they are fascinated as it looks like a Corvette to them.
While I appreciate the efforts expended on the exhaust closeups, it's during the rolling, on-song flybys that you start to get a real idea of the orchestral soundscape emitted from a Ferrari V12 powertrain. Truly otherworldly.
Great road test.Delightful to see the 812 blasting up and down country lanes.Lovely shot of the car changing direction at the end from the outside.Would be good if there were more shots like that within the test itself. All round a pretty good road test.
Nothing will ever sound better than a naturally aspirated V12. Personally, I prefer the F12. The one @autovlog had in white with that red interior was a beast.
One of the most beautiful Ferraris ever ,your right ,such a classy supercar ,and the marranellos finest V12 .It's so elegant compared to most supercars nowdays .
I'm not a massive Ferrari fan however what you said about the front engine models is so true. Also must agree that not every Ferrari should be red. Lairy cars should come in lairy colours. As a committed Aston Martin dreamer I am both disappointed and astounded that the Roma bears a prancing horse as opposed to wings.
Sounds like an old F1 car and has similar power. I think it’s the usability that is the greatest achievement, making something that revs to 9 and does 0-100mph in
As an investment these latest V12s are probably a good bet! The 812, GTS and Purosangue! I don't believe we are going to see many if any new V12 Ferraris. It looks like a good bye to me.
I've found with the front engined modern V12 Ferrari's I go from really loving the styling of one model, not liking the next, then loving the next again. 550/575 absolutely gorgeous, 599 pretty ugly to my eyes, F12 absolutely back on song again, 812 I quite like but find the back end far too busy and a few too many of those black vents dotted around as if they were made with an axe. I wouldn't say no to owning any of the above mentioned though because of the V12 factor.
I think you hit the nail on the head regarding Ferrari love/hate attitudes. I notice a very different attitude to me when I'm driving my company 21 plate BWM 330eX (people hate me) and my 2005 Jaguar XK8 (smiles and goodwill all-round). Humans, eh?
This is how u spec out any Ferrari period. This is a a highly sought after spec and will command a min MSRP + premium. Definitely worth the markup when all options are considered. 6.5 N/A V-12 no e-tech all analog engineering and sound. This particular species of all motor v-12 is going to be a 7 digit within a decade. That is what I will pay (decade from now). But somehow I’m just dreaming of a lower price but more likely it’s 1.5-2mill. Any V-12 especially a 6-spd manual will all be min 1 million + I bet. So 2033 is my entry into this model v-12 N-A for F cars.
Great video, per usual. You mentioned that you don't think all Ferraris look good in red. I'm curious if there's any recent models you have in mind, say from the 360 onward?
I’ve seen a number of reviews of this car and the general opinion is that it’s just too fast and too manic for the average UK driver on an average UK road and it’s exhausting to drive.
I like the styling of the F12 better. Just the stance with the side silhouette and the rear looks amazing with the body diffusing into the undercarriage
Just a picky comment, those carbon fiber paddles were not spec from factory, they are from the Ferrari genuine accessories list, that is why they have the slot in them.
I also feel conflicted with the f12 and 812's front end in that i'd probably prefer the f12 in blue or the 812 in british green especially with those wheels fitted given the chance.
Looks: F12 Now as for Front Engine V. Mid Engine: I think the mid engined cars look better, and I’d love to have a go in one. Rent one for the weekend every couple of months sort of deal. But if I were to OWN, day in, day out, front engine. There is no question in my mind. Just out of the modern Ferraris, my only thought would be…Roma or 812? I prefer the styling of the Roma, but the engine or the 812….oh decisions decisions…
My favourite front-engined Ferrari, or favourite Ferrari of any sort come to that, not that I've actually driven any of them outwith video games, is the 612 Scaglietti. I love a fuss-free design, I can live without creases, and winglets, and vents all over the place. If the Scaglietti lost the sculpted sides and had smooth flanks like the Roma, for example, though with the staright 612 sills, not the horrible indented Roma ones, it would be perfect. Probably the prettiest car ever, indeed, because I can't fault it otherwise. F12 v 812, I'm not entirely enamoured of either, but I think a narrow win for the F12, mainly due to the better rear view. I reckon the sequence of cars before the Scaglietti, 550, 575, 456, even the 599, (yes, I know those aren't all direct successors) were far better looking than what has come since they peaked with the 612. The decline began with the FF, which was okay until you saw it from behind. Every front-engined car launched after that has been that bit worse then the one before, whether in a direct lineage or not.

And it's that quick it'd probably get there before it's own sound!
Why i think people love front engine car is the proportion of the long bonnet to the car length, compared to a squashed aerodynamic looking mid engine
Crummy week. Settled in with a glass of wine and watched this video. Made my Friday evening. Thanks Jay.
A Friday night Ferrari review from James...excellent!
F12 hands down, the front, and especially the rear where the body swoops down umtos the F1 light.
Love the sound of this car, but not quite as much as the notification I hear when you upload! Thanks for providing this stunning content James! 😃
My pleasure
Sounds like an old F1 car and has similar power. I think it’s the usability that is the greatest achievement, making something that revs to 9 and does 0-100mph in
Came for the review, stayed for the shirt. It's great and so is the review.
Well done Jay🎉
Thanks for the video!
You forgot to tell us what you think of this compared to 812 GTS! Do you think this sounds better?
loving the driving gloves. Alan Partridge would be proud of you
Those were not his hands, I'm guessing Dennis is the owner of those hands pink shirt and tweed jacket.
So British! 😀
3:47 felt like the "they're the same picture meme"
Love the F12 but the 812 any day
Both are lovely, but I do think the 812 edges the f12 for drama. Nice vid!
As an investment these latest V12s are probably a good bet! The 812, GTS and Purosangue! I don't believe we are going to see many if any new V12 Ferraris. It looks like a good bye to me.
I'll take one F12, thank you...
Humans, eh?
Great video I am sticking with my F12 although I do prefer the rear of the 812. Hope they have cured the corrosion problem.
Hi James, I prefer the Pininfarina era so it’s the F12 for me.
Absolutely Gorgeous! And the gold wheels ❤. Keep up the good work Jay.
Here since 2000 follower, love the video, beautiful car, I prefer the 812 styling wise tho. Keep it up! Much love from Germany :)
Great video, per usual. You mentioned that you don't think all Ferraris look good in red. I'm curious if there's any recent models you have in mind, say from the 360 onward?
That sound! Musical exhaust note 🎶!! Other than the 308, I tend to like the front engined Ferrari's.
What a stunner! them wheels look brilliant! 👏🏻
Excellent video James! Well done!
I'd take an F12, but if my budget was high enough I'd take an 812 GTS instead.
"Has been about a month since I last drove the F12 because it is in for a service." - Tells a story in itself.
Just a picky comment, those carbon fiber paddles were not spec from factory, they are from the Ferrari genuine accessories list, that is why they have the slot in them.
Didn’t end up being the very last after all. 12cilindri next! Amazing!
Absolutely gorgeous car. This would be the Ferrari I buy if in market for one.
I also feel conflicted with the f12 and 812's front end in that i'd probably prefer the f12 in blue or the 812 in british green especially with those wheels fitted given the chance.
Good colour choices
The Ferrari Purosangue also has an N/A V12, that car will probably be the last production Ferrari that features a N/A V12 engine.
I prefer F12 over 812. But I love them both) They’re gorgeous!
Looks:
F12
Now as for Front Engine V. Mid Engine:
I think the mid engined cars look better, and I’d love to have a go in one.
How you managed to avoid using the F word as an adjective when describing that car after hearing its glorious V12 is beyond me - I salute you!
Glorious design and engine note. Thank you Enzo.
I think it’s the F12 for me. Prettiest modern Ferrari in years and certainly the TDF. I agree I love the quad lights on the 812 though.
Love it. Thanks 😊
One insanely fast car, the other marginally less insanely fast but good looking. I'll take the F12, thanks.
