    it completely depends on the boat it is pushing... a canoe vs tender vs larger RIB will have dramatically different performance/range/speed with this motor. Test is somewhat useless unless you have a very similar boat to one tested. Unfortunately no info was given on the boat tested to know, compare or extrapolate from...

    Thanks for the video. It nicely illustrates that up to 6 or 7 kmh power consumption is low to moderate but it becomes very power hungry when trying to approach 10kmh.
    I try to build a solar catamaran with about 3kW of (max.) solar power. To be able to grossly compare to your power/speed ratios: What kind of boat is it that you use ?

      The boat used in this video is fiberglass rowboat, 4,6m long weighted 85kg. suvi-boats.com/boats/rowboats/suvi-460/

      Thanks, I see. The total weigt of my construction will be higher (~160 kg) but it is a catamaran which is more "aquadynamic". So I guess that the figures will be pretty much the same in the end.

    Thanks for sharing this. I find it funny that such a large battery 915 Wh compare to a little over 100 ml of gasoline. Still a great mileage. Imagine one would be able to travel 880 kilometers on 1 liter of gasoline.

      @@jeffery672002 This man is able to travel at a speed of 3,5 km/h with a battery that is at 92 % charge. He has a range of 82 km with this speed. He added 32 watts of power to gain this result. A liter of gasoline holds around 9 to 10 kWh of energy. A combustion engine is associated with a very low efficiency. Imagine if that wasn't the case and a combustion engine would be able to be as efficient as this direct drive one. Then you would be able to travel 880 kilometers with 1 liter of gasoline.

      @@jandoe9942 wow, that's pretty remarkable. So you're saying combustion engines get hardly any of the available energy out of fuel while electric effectively uses a lot of its available energy. I didn't realize ice engines were so inefficient.

      because you did not include the cost of gasoline and maintenace over life time into the calculation.
      Cost for the ammount of electricity is next to nothing and with solar really zero.

      I had 2,5 hv gasoline motor before this. It was dirty, needed gasoline, oil, grease and maintenance. This is almost maintenance free, silent, easy to carry and nice to drive. I would never, ever change back to gasoline engine in this size of boat.

      @@gonzobongo6669 I have a 6 hp yamaha on my boat as the main and a torqeedo 1003 as the secondary engine and since I have solar I am not worried about engine or fuel issues when I go to far bays for fishing

    I had electric engine on my dinghy couldn't enjoy fishing coz rubbish range if u go full speed battery drain after about 25-30 min a specialy when u av large dinghy my by ok on kayak.
    Now i av 5hp honda engine short shaft and is flying once a year service is a lot easer then recharging batteries all time or carrying 5 batteries . Electric engines is future but not yet

      Thanks for sharing your experience. My Torqeedo battery never drained because it tells me distance left with current power. If I drive full speed or half speed there is not much difference, if I'm fishing or relaxing. When I want to drive fast I take my bigger boat with Yamaha 70 hp ;).

      Torqueedo is very fragile. Although trying to be careful the tiller has broken, the skeg has broken, the battery charger burnt out, Impossible to change a shear pin while afloat. My Minkota riptide has been super reliable and has never given trouble and at a fraction of the price. Especially when running it on lipo batteries. Also very cheap spare batteries compared to Torqueedo.

    Overpriced garbage a normal trolling motor works just as good at a fraction of the cost

      I had 2,5 hv gasoline motor before this. It was dirty, needed gasoline, oil, grease and maintenance. They are not free. Torqeedo is clean, maintenance free, silent, easy to carry and nice to drive. I would never, ever change back to gasoline engine in this size of boat. I can't argue the prize, but the final cost depends on time frame you take into account.

      Very correct. My old riptide by Minkota has never missed a beat and is quieter. Torqueedo has cost be hundreds, noisy hum, and I have given up on it. The riptide with recycled 18650 repackaged batteries are light, cheap, quieter, and much better. It starts every time. Sometimes the Torqueedo does not self start. I regret my purchase of Torqueedo.
