@@uleiosu4582 It is harder to turn your head and look around with lower handlebars. This results in relying more using mirrors especially while changing lanes. Mirrors work great, but on this bike the mirrors are way too small to be effective. This makes the motorcycle dangerous in a traffic situation. So this motorcycle is great for a single lane country back road. Its a pretty bike and I love it, but safety must come first above styling. One mistake in a urban area or a city freeway and you are dead meat. Other than that its a super cool bike.
I had a ’57 and a ’58 both R69’s. Restored the ’57, an old gendarme bike, myself while working in Morocco in ‘79. The ’58 I bought fully restored while working in Thailand in ‘84. Shipped both back to the US and entrusted my brother to take care of them until I returned to the US. Bastard sold both of them and didn’t say a word to me about it. That’s been 25 years ago, haven’t spoken to him since. Tip, lose the Bing carbs and get some Mikuni carburetors. Don’t touch anything else, they are perfect stock. Best, most dependable motorcycles I’ve ever owned.
Great bike. This guy clearly bleeds passion for his bike. Love the light switch. Always loved the older bmws. Side note: I hope you guys continue this series for LA folks when the LA shed opens. As an LA native and dedicated Bike Shed supporter I'd love to volunteer to be on an LA episode with my slightly customized Ducati Monster.
I toured and rode to work on a R69s for many years, it was comfortable to ride. Its head light and breaks were not wonderful, you learned to ride accordingly. My last BMW was a K75 s that I loved. It had great breaks and lighting and handled well.
I could watch these videos all day. This guy is clearly passionate and loves the bike and the the process that led to what it is today. Food for inspiration, thank you!
@@deanogold7282 I like how you are grinning all through the video when talking about the bike. Your passion for the bike is really visible and your excitement is infectious. I enjoyed the video and look forward to seeing your other bike(s).
Hopefully i’ll get my grandads R60/6 done up one day, I love seeing what people do to these beautiful machines. Seeing Dean riding off looked really cool, definitely something I want to do.
That is a symphony for my ears, the sound of it! I used to have an old timer Opel Record C coup, '69. We' d say that the engine sounds like the Singer (sewing machine). This is a beauty! 😍
This guy obviously cares for the bike. There are many people who come on this channel and want the bike to make them look cool and sophisticated but he genuinely cares about the bike for its own sake.
Lovely and great video. I’m definitely jealous of the carbs as mine always leak. I was puzzled by Ulis in Frankfurt until I looked it up. My shop orders from there. I’m so glad y kept the Dover white. I have a 64 R50 in it as well. It even came with the tire pump. I look forward to seeing more videos!
My.wife's grandfather owned one of these in the 60s. It had a Steib Sidecar and was black it had a long range BMW fuel tank, even bigger than the one shown on this video. I have a Riese und Müller pedal cycle with the same type of front suspension. The bikes don't dive under braking and provide a very smooth ride. Great video 👍
Extra points for Dean's enthusiasm and the courage to present his bike. It takes more guts than most realize - so you have my upvote, sir! Other than that, the bike is a shaved cat representative of the caféBay era. It's either that, or my subconscious envy of the folks who can afford to throw money at their hobbies until they're happy.
Great looking boxer classic! Sounds great as well! My ride is an R1150RT, but these older BMW's are so stylish and great to see and hear. Would love to own one of these in near future.
Our Paradise Ca. home didn't burn. Everyone around us did. What hurt the most, oddly, was seeing all the burned cars and bikes. Two doors up was a bike like this one. Melted. Almost all the aluminum, Gone. I picked up a dribble some 18" long and 5" wide. The steel parts like frame were intact of course.
I would like to point out ( incase you don't know this) that the top front shock mounts are in the wrong place, they are meant to be in-line with the steering head, and it was quite a common mod to have these repositioned for better handling
Absolutely stunning machine!😍 I’ve got a 1980 R100s that had a ground up resto done by a mate. I took it out for a couple of hours on the weekend. I just love looking at it, riding it & listening to it. Here in Australia I have it on club rego so it’s a special treat taking it for a run. I have had the S1000RR & traded that beast for a S1000R. Also in the shed is a 2003 Rockster which is having a mild makeover😉😈😎 Gotta love a boxer twin👍🏼😎
I really loved his bikes more than the Matt black for number of reasons this seems to be old yet elegant and beautiful the way he kept smiling in between telling about what he has done to his bike haha it's awesome what you guys do tell story of each bike and their respective owners I really like the idea he customize it yet added his own taste to his bike ... I really liked the hubs and headlight film I had done same to my 59 Enfield g2 just gorgeous the engine just purrs beautiful.
Ok,I'll bite. How many positions are there, what needs to be done differently, and what does it do to the handling if you leave the thing in sidecar position ?
@@paulmanson253 2 positions, the horizontal arm of the swingarm needs to be shifted back to the non-sidecar hole just behind where it is currently hinged.
I rode a R60/5 for many years. Never had a better bike. Only sold it to save the farm. I called it my sewing machine for the smooth faultless running. Top speed 105 Mph. all day, (not 106). love that front end design.... absolutely beautiful! As an aside, just my worthless two cents, all black (matte or gloss) is at the end of it's coolness....when you see a grandma driving an "affordable," all-black auto from the factory it's over, johnny....
You can feel the vibe and excitement of this man with this gestures and stutters.
Hi Jopet....Hope you liked the video....all the best...Dean 🏍
Some people say a vehicle is just to get from point A to point B. They're wrong. The vehicle is the point.
Here, here.
those ppl are defo not petrolheads.
you are wrong as well. the ride from A to B is the point 😀

I can't believe old bmw sounds so amazing with the original pipe. One of the best 2 cylinder engine sound in my opinion.
Me too!
Gorgeous. Love how it purrs rather than roars, matches the bike's aesthetic perfectly.
