The T120 and the Teenager - a Sunday ride with my niece and my Triumph Bonneville - MotoVlog

- I don't always ride solo; a sunny Sunday was all the excuse I needed to take my niece out for a ride on the Triumph Bonneville T120.
Riding my Triumph Bonneville T120 around the hills of the West Pennine Moors and then stopping for a bacon butty at Rivington Hall Barn is a regular favourite pastime. But this Sunday I took my niece out with me and had a great time riding the roads and looking at bikes, I can already see the buds of a future motorcyclist in her :)

In 1963, many of my classmates in 5th grade were getting new Honda 50 and 65cc motorcycles. Although my Bristolian Dad rode his Ariel 350 and Matchless 500 motorcycles during and after WW2, and he was a dispatch rider in the Royal Army on a Triumph in WW2, he chose to give up bikes and buy a car, when he came to America after the war. And when my Mom forbid me to ride with my friends he didn’t challenge her. So of course I rode with my friends. It’s a wonder we didn’t get killed. So when I had kids I told them if they wanted to ride I would teach them. And they all became licensed bikers at age 15 with a Kawasaki 250 to ride to school. We still ride together when they visit. I’m a proud Papa.😎
Kids are going to what they want regardless, so good for you teaching your children how to do it properly 👏🏻
Nice... I've myself begun taking my teenage daughter as a pillion and we're finding it to be a great father-daughter experience 👍 Thanks for sharing
It’s a lovely way to spend time with family, I hope your daughter doesn’t grow out of it too quickly 🙂
A thumbs up for being such a cool uncle
Thank you, I try 😁
I could almost hear the palpable "Really, again with the camera Uncle?" coming from her in the outtakes. Only because I get that when I take my cousin who is 14 years younger than me out for breakfast/dinner or anything in between... Hope to get her on the back of the motorbike some time this summer too!
Clearly having to do everything three times to make a video was taking its toll on her 😂. Good luck getting your cousin out on your bike, hope she loves it.
@@ClassicRides She has been on a bike before, but will bey first time taking a pillion so I'll have to take it easy. 😳
THIS!!! Needed no narration, no dialog. The smile on your niece's face at the end told the whole story! Thanks for sharing. :)
Glad you liked it 🙂
No one can deny... that is one cool motorcycle.
I completely agree with you 😁
Adorable! What a cute young lady. Good for you for giving her a great introduction to motorcycling.
It’s my duty as an uncle to encourage pastimes that the rest of the family would say no to 😁
As a step granddad I feel that’s exactly my role too. Whilst he’s only 2 1/2 now, he has a whole world of fun an adventuring with me ahead of him. 😂
@@ClassicRides I wish I could take one of my nieces for a pillion ride, I'm sure they would love it, but stupidly I bought the T120 Bobber 🤔
@@winchester92stevebrook44 well that's a bike guaranteed to assign you "cool uncle" status even if they can't go on it.
Nice...happy niece
She is 🙂
Another great video! Looked like a great day out! : )
Thanks and yes, it was a great day out 🙂
Nice ride. And it didn't rain ? Lucky you !! Your niece looks like a very nice young lady. I must agree with you it looks like she shall become a bike fan. Good for her.✌
It was actually a very summery day, made me regret putting on thermals. I think she likes the speed more than anything so sports bike may be her thing, there's time to change her mind yet though 😁
breath of fresh air in motovlogging! All the best!
Thanks Shez!
I can just about remember when I was 5, now 61. When on holiday in Devon with my grandparents, my uncle riding down to meet us on the beach, and he took me back to the cottage on the back of his Triumph. First impressions last for a lifetime. Still riding and on a Triumph. Happy days.
Seems like everyone who rides had that rouge Uncle who introduced them to bikes, I couldn't be happier fulfilling my Uncle duties now 🙂
I wish my step daughter would....but its never going to happen.
@@apacherider7110 you never know, maybe if she sees other young ladies going out she might be more inclined 🙂
How lovely glad your niece enjoyed it also glad she didn't choose the accompanying music
The Yooths have appalling taste in music, no helmet comms for this young lady 😁
@@ClassicRides so funny matt but great to see her out with you
What a lovely happy video. Fresh from a few years in Vietnam, and I've got a 500 Mach III Kaw. I took my younger cousin to buy some hamburgers. We get off the bike, I turned and there she was sitting up cross-legged in a cars grease spot still wearing her helmet. As she was from Calif. I didn't know why she did that. She didn't utter a word, I walked over, bought a bag of burgers and we rode back to Grandma's house. To say I was freaked out would be an understatement, still in shock I just rode away. Later I learned when she slid off the bike she had broken her wrist! I thought thats how they lived being from Calif. That was fifty some years ago and I hadn't talked to her since to say I was sorry. Being a Vietnam Vet has always been terrible, the public at large hated us thanks to the media. My family turned their backs me and the girl next door (literally) found & maried someone else during my last tour.
Such a delightful video. Quality content that brings a smile to the heart. Thank you.
You’re most welcome 🙏
hahaha this is brilliant! what a great day and what a lovely little video!
Glad you liked it! 🙌
Love seeing people of all ages get into motorcycling, but it's especially heartwarming to see younger people involved... and dogs. Ha. My schnauzer loves riding (and it just so happens that, to date, he's exclusively ridden on a T120).
Ah that’s amazing! I’d love to get a sidecar for my Chocolate Labrador, but he hates the car so I think a bumpy motorbike would be his idea of hell 😁
This is so wholesome.
Thanks
just a brilliant video Matt 😀👍
Thanks John!
Como siempre muy buen video y una excelente compañera, gracias amigo😊
Glad you enjoyed another video Paco 🙏
Beautiful video, as usual. Thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Great video. As a triumph riding dad of two , now grown up daughters it’s brought some great memories back.
Glad to have brought back some happy memories for you Rob!
Lovely video. My youngest daughter is my pillion. She's sassy so we have much fun. Great to see the joy you pass onto your niece. Perhaps a lady rider of the future. 🏍
I hope so too, if motorised transport is still a thing when she’s old enough 😁
@@ClassicRides lets hope so!! 🫣
Enhorabuena a ambos por compartir afición,siempre lo recordaréis.✌️
Thanks, I will 🙏
Start em young Matt, I took my granddaughter on the back when she was 10 & she enjoyed it, all I could hear was shouts of joy as we were riding along.
When we pulled up at her mums work her face that was another story, 😮another great video Matt.
Thanks Les, I hope you still get to take your granddaughter out on your bike and she hasn't grown out of it!
Sir. You're a legend. ❤
Thank you very much 🙏
Your the Uncle we all wished we had growing up !!!!! You well dressed Rogue 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I try to be 😁
This is such a cool video. It reminds me of when my boys used to like riding pillion on my motorcycle. Both are grown up now, but my youngest has a 125, and we do occasionally have a ride out together. I came to this channel after a recommendation from Bingley Wheeler and have now subscribed.
Well my thanks to you and Dave for the subscription, I imagine riding out with your son is always a great occasion.
Adorable Video It Is…So Nice To Have Taken Your Niece Along …Showing Them The Proper Hobby To Get Glued Too
I think she’s a future biker already 🙂
@@ClassicRides Nice 😀
Oh, She is a lovely girl! So cute
She knows it too 😁
another great vid with a wonderful twist, thanks for sharing.
Most welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
I'm loving your videos and love the bike too
Great channel
Congrats
Thanks very much, I’m very glad you like them 🙂
Looks like she enjoyed it, despite the eye rolling in the out-takes at the end 😂 As you say, the jacket and helmet combo nailed the look … well done both !
She’s living her best teenager life with the eye rolls 😁 we’ve all been there 😁
@@ClassicRides we have indeed. I hope you’ve shared it to her Instagram so her friends can see it 🤣🤣🤣
@@matthewbenjafield5470 she’s too cool for instagram, she’s probably on something I’m too old to have heard of 😁
@@ClassicRides I know that feeling 🤣🤣🤣
Love the vid and music. I’ll be advertising your saddle bag tomorrow at DGR in Richmond VA!
Thank you! I hope the bag does it’s job at carrying all your gentlemanly gear on your ride.
Really nice video. Inspires me to ask my nieces & nephew if they would like a little jaunt on my bike, a great opportunity to get to know them better.
I very much recommend you do it, it can become a really nice way for you to spend a day together 🙂
Great way to invite and mentor a person to a whole new side of life. Both motorcycling and cinematography. You did a great job especially with the mirror shots. Not easy to get. The 120, it's beautiful and truly a modern classic. Ever thought of putting on a set of rubber gaiters, say when you pull the calipers to change pads. I had them on all my telescopic fork BMW's. Classy look and absolute function. Definitely in Triumph country. Good job, be careful.
Thanks. The bike came with gaiters on, which I stupidly took off to reveal more of the metalwork. I’ll put gaiters back on at some point soon though 🙂
This is Goals man! such an awesome vibe!
Hey dude, totally didn’t realise you were on YT! Just subbed of course 😁
@Classic Rides Haha, just dipping my toes here. Planning to do some TH-cam dedicated content soon 😉
@@mojobike I’m sure you’ll kill it on here too 👍
A few days ago I picked my niece behind me on my RE Interceptor 650, she was so happy to be free like that, and of course me too. Cheers !
Sounds like you a great day with your niece just like I did 🙂
What a fantastic video! Really nicely shot, good music and great scenery. Love the eye rolling at the end too. 🙄😂😂
She wouldn’t be a normal teenager without the eye rolls 😁
2:08 There were nearly 3 of you on that bike 😂 Another great video.
It was closer than it looked, some choice words were said into my helmet 😁
Kudos to you for introducing the new gen to motorcycling joy. I think you planned the route well with breaks in between and lovely twisty roads.
Just doing my duty as an uncle to encourage dangerous pastimes to my nieces & nephews 😁
Great video and the sound of your T120 is great
Thank you 🙏, taking the cat out has made a huge difference to the noise 🙉
I remember taking my girlfriend 16 and me 17 on my Kawasaki 500 H1 . Her Parents were terrified when I pulled up on that smoking screaming machine…..lol. Great Video!!
I bet they were 😁. Luckily my brother (her dad) is pretty relaxed about her being on the bike 🙂
She's so sweet 😀
I agree 🙂
What a great sport. But by your niece's mounting and dismounting, we can tell she's ridden a lot. Good for her. Perhaps we'll see her own Triumph video channel at some point..... Reminds me of my own niece who's a few years younger. We do have a good time when we ride. Last toot about, she got a great kick out of the stares from some young males (barely older than her) who were standing by the roadside in the small town we passed through. I was chuffed to give my niece (named after my late sister, no less) that thrill. She did notice the glances as well. The grins said as much. But thank you for a very nice video. Again.
Actually it’s only her third time on the bike, but she’s gotten used to it very quickly. It’s makes me chuckle too how awkward she gets when boys see her on the bike, I don’t think she knows how cool they must think she is 😁
@@ClassicRides Yes, definitely explain to her it is not mine nor your appearance (IMHO) but rather that of a very lovely young lady that draws the dropped jaw of a male-type variety...... (My niece blushed and doubted as well). They definitely think the lasses are cool! (Now back off! Uncle is a police officer!!) 😆
Superior videography skills. Very well done.
Thanks, glad you liked it 🙏
Great video mate.
Thanks Duane 👊
OMG this girl is the spitting image of my niece Ellie may when she was about fifteen I used to take her clothes shopping and she would come stay with me and my wife same smile lovely eyes and squashed nose when impatient maybe I just miss her laugh she is all grown up now and a care worker
It’s a shame they grow up, only seems a few months ago she was asking me to carry her about on family days out.
Was she was wearing a Hedon helmet with bubble visor?!….looked fab and with the jacket, matched the Bonny perfectly!! 😎👍
She was indeed, nailed the Modern Classic look first try 👌
Killa good video..Rock ON!
Thanks Tony 🙏
That was great !!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just a brilliant day out.
I agree, it was 🙂
Great video Matt. Well done for introducing her to motorcycling, ensuring she had proper riding clothing and riding at a comfortable speed. If she has enjoyed it, you might get a CBT request soon. 😁👍👍
I’m sure she enjoyed it, it was her third time out on the bike, a future biker I’m sure but she likes the speed a bit too much 😁🏍️💨
@@ClassicRides speed liking it's quite normal at our age, imagine at hers. 😁👍
on the road with two beauties! :D :D
i have 3 nieces and we always have a lot of fun, because im a child in an old body, but im not sure if any of them would take a daytour with me, although i have a backrest, so they are´nt forced to embrace their uncle during the hole ride. :D :D :D
nice video matt - i hope she had fun to stop for all those camera stopps and remounts...because it seemed to be not so extremely amusing standing there and wait for any action, when i look in her face, keeping her eyes on rolling. :D :D :D
greetings from vienna!
Yes I think she was getting bored by the end of the day 😁. I think you should persuade your nieces to go ride with you, it’s a lovely way to spend a day together.
@@ClassicRides i´m afraid my sister would kill me. :D :D :D

I hope so too!
Spent a good few Sunday afternoons at Rivi Barn, on the bikes, back in the old days....
Wonderful great! I hope so^ in korea south (of course), thank you so much "Classic Rides"
You’re very welcome, I’m glad you liked it 🙏
Getting the next generation hooked. 😊
That’s my plan, and I think it’s worked 😁
Hi. Nice video. Is that some Blue Grass music ?😄😄
It might be 😁
One of my favorite things about the T120 (I own a 2017 model) is the engine and exhaust sound.
Remember to wear hearing protection when you ride. Just helmet wind noise over 30 minutes (or less depending upon the decibel level) can cause permanent hearing loss.
ok thanks.
family! how it should be :-) well done. good uncle
I try to be 😁
Great video again and what a difference different music can make. From moody, laid back, contemplative to very uplifting! I’m still looking at what bike to get and every time I watch your videos, well, I think you and I know the answer! I was at bike night last week, Glenrothes, Fife, hundreds of bikes but two stood out, Bonnevilles! Have you done anything to the exhausts? Sounds great. 👍
Thanks, obviously I would recommend a T120 to anyone as they’re fantastic ‘do everything’ bikes, plus they look great.
I have the Vance & Hines upgrade pipes on my mine, I’ve also put an X-pipe in in place of the cat, so it’s a little louder now 🙉
@@ClassicRides I put an X pipe on mine after I installed Gasser Customs pipes, upswept. I had to put the cat back on as it was HD loud! I like a nice burble, grumble but mine was obnoxious. Even some riding friends complained when they were behind me!
@@jerhughes500 haha, I think I might be the same with mine at mo, luckily the V&H pipes comes with removable baffles so I might pop them back in 😁
Such an amazing video. I really appreciate the effort that goes in making of such a video. Love the triumph !
Thank you 🙏
Made me smile all the way through Matt, how many helmet bumps did she clock up? 😁😁
A lot 😁
Nice ride Mat,congrats to your niece on having a go at pillion, just out of interest, where was the motorbike cafe you went to ? ,it looked to be in a nice location, cheers.
Thanks Adrian, she’s got no fear that lady 😁. The cafe is the Great Hall Barn in Rivington, just a bit north of Bolton. There’s usually a good collection of bikes there at the weekends.
Great video enjoyed it so much just a question re the exhaust sound have you modified them decat and louder pipes etc the bike sounds exactly as ut should 👍
Glad you liked the video Alan, I’ve recently decatted the bike so it’s got a bit more a roar to it now.
Marvellous. Some decent boots for her would be a good idea.
Glad you liked it.
What a lovely video. I’m glad you got to spend the time with your niece. Forever memory 👍
Thanks Sam, it’s always a good day when you get to the ‘cool’ uncle 😁
Coolest uncle award
That’s what I’m aiming for 😁
What a treat this video is. I have nieces of a similar age and need to do this. Curious, what gloves is she wearing? Thank you for the video!
Hi Jack, glad you liked the video. I’m sure your nieces would love it, apparently motorbikes are “sick”.
The gloves are from Fogy Garage, they’re the Ethiopia Rashadan gloves 👌
Nicely done . So nice of you to take the young lady out and about.
Do you think motorcycling is in her future? Thanks for sharing.
I hope so, she certainly seemed to enjoy it 🙂
Same here on my site, but my daughter is now 19 and rides her own bike. A Mash black Seven.
You’ve taught her well! 👍
Love it!!! Will take my son as well some day. Can you share what helmet is she wearing? It looks really cool.
I hope you do! The helmet is a Hedon Hedonist with a yellow bubble visor 👌
@@ClassicRides, thank you 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
What a lovely Video!
By the way, what happened to your fluid cap, wasn't the union jack on your new cap? at 4:40 we can see the regular cap the bike comes with so i was curious.
Thanks and you have keen eyes. I took the cap off to try to refurbish it as it was looking a bit tired. If I manage to repaint it properly I’ll put it back on 🙂
@@ClassicRides Hehe Eagle Eyes right here. 😄
May i ask how tall you are? I always wondered, the T120 is my absolute dream-bike but i kinda have some stumpy legs at a height of 172cm. Will try to test ride one this year :)
@@SteakOSaurier well you are a little taller than me, I’m about 168cm so not exactly a giant. You’d be totally fine on a T120, and you could even get lowered rear springs and a thinner seat to make even more accessible if needed. It’s a very easy bike to ride for shorter folk 👌
@@ClassicRides That's nice to hear! Thank you so much for your insight. As i think it will still take some time for me to get a Bonneville, i'm debating if a T100 would be "better" for me rather then the T120, for example i heard for low speeds the 5-gear box is much smoother then T120s 6-Gear box? Have you ever ridden a T100 and would say you can easily ride 2-up with that one as well?
@@SteakOSaurier I haven’t ridden a T100 to be honest, though I’ve read some folk prefer them to the T120. For me, I can’t imagine how it could be better at slow speed as the T120 is very smooth at low speeds. Also, I believe the T100 seat height is slightly higher than the T120, thought I don’t know why.
Good Uncle!
I try 😁
Sweet!
Thanks 🙏
I don’t know if you seen it already, but I’ve just watched a 3 part story, Jake Rides Away, on here. He rides from New York to Seattle to LA and back. On a bonneville. Stunning videos and well worth checking out. 👍
Yes I'm a big fan of Jake's videos 🙂
I hope your nephew grows up to be a good biker
Thanks Omer 🙏
Wonderful! She obviously has her own bike gear so a future biker indeed. Did you get any negative vibes from her parents? Before I became a biker I'm not sure I'd have been happy for either of my two daughters to do that, just on safety grounds (biking is risky)?
No I made sure her dad (my brother) was 100% ok with her getting on it. She’s very precious cargo so I take extra care when she’s with me.
Looks like Rivvy Barn Matt....is it up and running again....seemed to dies a death some months back.
It’s been pretty busy every time I’ve been there recently.
this is a great one how did your niece find the experience
She likes it, it’s her third time on the bike now so she’s getting more comfortable with what to do, future biker in the making I think 😁
Thank you
Hope you liked it Dale!
Un video muy bonito❤
Thank you 🙏🏻
What year and Color is your T120? I really like it. Looks amazing. I have a T100 but wish I had the extra gear for highway speed.
Hi Paul, it’s a 2018 model in the Aluminium Silver paint scheme. That 6th gear is one of reasons I chose a T120 over the T100, it’s much nicer doing distance at speed.
@@ClassicRides thanks for getting back to me.

Thank you 🙏
Nice video ! What's the brand of your helmet please ? Cheers
It’s a Biltwell Gringo 👍
Terima Kasih Gan, Anda sudah menyajikan video menarik ini,,👍🙏
You're welcome, glad you found it interesting 🙂
Looks like a lovely day out! I'm swapping my Street Triple for a T120 in the next few weeks, one reason being I want a more relaxed ride (and the Triple eggs you on a bit!), other reason being to have something more comfortable for my other half to ride pillion.
Have you had the chance to have a pillion on the back for 2/3 hours or so? If so, how did they find it?
I haven’t had any complaints from pillions so far. I use the Triumph Comfort seat when taking people on the back as it’s super comfy so that definitely helps. But it’s a comfortable bike all round anyway, I’m sure your other half will appreciate the change from your street triple.
@@ClassicRides happy days, cheers mate. While I knew it was going to be a comfort upgrade regardless, it's reassuring to know it's comfortable in general, rather than just a comfort upgrade relative to the Triple haha.
how cool ;P
Thank you 🙏
The T120 has a lot of very similar styling cues to my old TBird 900
I agree, the Thunderbirds are lovely looking machines 👌
Tooper that matt looks like she enjoyed herself, witch can take doing when there teenager's could i ask what helmet your wearing many thanks
Sure thing, it’s a Biltwell Gringo 👌
Please lubricate your side stand, it looks like it is not mooooo-ving freeeee-ly. Nice video, what do you call that style of music?

A great video but i don't think your neice appreciated being tapped on the head at the beginning of the video. Her facial expression was hilarious 😂
You might be right there 😂

Nice one Matt but please invest in a waistband/belt with handles.
Thanks for the suggestion Phil, I prefer her holding on this way though as I can feel whether she’s holding on tight enough or not 🙂
