- The graphic design principles are basic, but they can do deeper than most designers think. We're talking about hierarchy in design, contrast, balance, repetition, and importantly 'space'. Space is something that is not really fully understood by a lot of designers, but hopefully this video clears up a lot of that, and you can learn or take something away from todays Satori Graphics design principles tutorial.
The first 1,000 people to use the link will get a 1 month free trial of Skillshare: skl.sh/satorigraphics02231
Understanding these principles is crucial in creating visually appealing and effective designs. They provide a framework for making design decisions and help you create designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally effective.
So, we will cover the principle of repetition. Repetition is the repeated use of design elements, such as shape, colour, or typography, throughout a design. By repeating elements, you create a sense of unity and consistency, making your design feel cohesive and purposeful.
Then we will also dive into the principle of hierarchy. Hierarchy is the organisation of design elements in order of importance. By establishing a clear hierarchy, you guide the viewer's eye through the design and ensure that the most important information is emphasised.
And then something hugely important, the principle of white space. White space is the space between design elements. It is the breathing room that allows the viewer's eye to rest and provides balance and clarity in a design.
Finally we will explore the principle of contrast. Contrast is the difference between design elements, such as colour, shape, or size. By using contrast, you create visual interest and make important elements stand out.
Throughout this graphic design course, we will provide examples and case studies to illustrate these principles in action. We will also offer practical tips and techniques to help you incorporate these principles into your own designs.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced designer, this graphic design course will provide you with a strong foundation in the principles of graphic design. By the end of this course, you will have a deeper understanding of how to use repetition, hierarchy, white space, and contrast to create visually appealing and effective designs.
So, whether you are a designer, marketer, entrepreneur, or just someone who wants to learn more about graphic design principles, join us for this comprehensive graphic design course. Let's explore the world of graphic design principles and take your design skills to the next level!

Thanks, very sick video, im just started studying desing with youtube tutorials , because i hated what i had studied so i wanna learn by mysefl this amazing world thanks u ;3
You can do it, and thanks for the comment
I love learning and am mostly self-taught after having to drop out of college for health reasons and I really love the test element in this video. I found it extremely fun and I wish more educational videos about creative subjects implemented more interactive elements for the viewers who are interested in testing their understanding.
I dropped out of university too, due to mental health reasons back in 2009.
Keep learning and stay curious 💪
Wow! Probably the best video I've seen that explains design principles. The "test" at the end was very helpful as well. Thank you!
Love watching these to keep my mind fresh with ideas, the active space one was something new for me that I've been overlooking & it will make my life much easier as a professional.
Обожавам твоите клипове. Толкова полезна информация и така яко направени. Продължавай в същия дух! Браво!

The best part which love is that you are suggesting other videos at the ending , kind of going deeper and deeper into this stuff!

Any time!
You are really good at making this kind of information enjoyable, thank you!
I learned how to use Premiere Pro for the first time today and I have a lot to edit. What better way to procrastinate than learning more about what you are procrastinating on.
lol that's pretty cool! Enjoy working with Premiere 👍
Amazing video! Thanks a lot!
Thank you Tom, much appreciated ❤️
This video is awesome! You make it easy to learn, specially with the test at the end, love it

Great! Thanks
happy to help :)
Ill take my 28 points, think its a good score for not having any actual education prior to this video on the subject.
that's decent for sure 👍
great video! thanks a lot!
Glad you liked it!
Brilliant video mann
I was taught recently in school about typography errors and I want you to make a video about how to correct those mistakes. Examples of such errors are river, orphan, widow, runt etc.
Please !! 🙏🥺
Amazing thanks 😊
No problem 👍
Excellent.
Many thanks!
Mann i am literally tripping over your video , just had some 💚💚💚
LOL, I'm sure you had a very different perspective of this vid
God damn, your VIDEO EDITOR is a always on GOD MODE!
lol thanks I'll let them know
The last question was pretty obvious. Pastel colors are "light", so does feel being healthy. I had more trouble with space and hierarchy questions :)
Your a good teacher, even with dyslexia I’m able to be alert through your teachings
That's awesome to hear, thanks and all the best 👍
Your channel is an university. You're awesome. Pls feed us with your amazing content for ever :)) ☮️🤘🏻

More to come for sure Anna
Really good video, new subcriber!
Thanks for subbing and welcome :)
26 out of 42 is a pass

damn, a 30 min video from satori
What a day it is

GREAT VID

Bro is doing gods work 🙏
lol I don't claim that though :P
My score is 40. Keep making content like this.
Thank bro
no worries :)
Wow!

Bro, I love Design Principle Test.. i love to decode lot of designs... any idea to create design principle test in your website?
25:00 Would the cube overlapping the "Bryan" count as a form of hierarchy as well? It sort of puts the it in front of everything else.
Keep it up bro Tom......
I was the first today 😊😊
Another day you've added more value to my graphic design journey
Thanks! Sorry but YT says 2nd lol
@@SatoriGraphics 🤦🤦🤦
I'll be first one time 😁😁
so is this the video i should start with sir?
Great content Mr. Hall! Question, what if my LLC is registered in New York State with a Registered Agent in that state. This LLC serves as an online e-commerce Shopify store. Do I need a Registered Agent in all 50 states? Shopify stores like Fashionnova, Gymshark, Kith, Allbirds, Bombas, Skims & Kylie Jenner's Kylie Cosmetics do they have nation-wide Registered Agents? Billi
is there a way to get all those principples applied and sort of diaporama to get that really printed in my head ? ... is there a website or something ?
Total number of After Effect layers used in this video?
Great video with great examples! QUESTION: why not follow one style of graphics throughout your videos? Noticed you do cartoon style transitions but use very modern looking texts and other graphics. Would make sense having the whole video in cartoon style with hand-writing fonts or all in geometric modern. What do you think❓
Great suggestion! This video however is a mish-mash of my older content ranging back 3 years. So this video is a bit like what you said, lacking a strong running theme
The beginning part wows me, because I want that transition/techniques/??? presentation. Continuing watching to the end, eh, the wow aura has lessened. It's getting simpler and simpler.
btw, I'm so sad. i got 17.... 3 3 4 2 5. Oh myyy. Not my cup of tea, but this fascinates me.
Amazing video. If you watched the whole thing, you're amazing too.
wow thanks TC
Omg I got 40 points! 🤗
nice one!
18:36 should passive white space on your text, you wrote active
Idk but why in question number 3, its balance, asymmetrical balance, is that even considered balance
Nice work Mr. Id say "The Lobster" also has some gestalt :/
More gestalt and pepper on your lobster sir/madame?
18:35 you say its passive white space but active white space is written in screen
indeed
Contrast
👍
Would you do rate the design of your subscribers again? 😅
Well I guess I'm early here
And first, kudos 🏅
I need my cookies now
"repetition legitimizes" i think that one came from music
i get 41 points.
👍💛
Não poxe correr
Spelling mistake on 25:25 no one pointed it out so I did haha sorry
Ty
18:33 *typo
it's PASSIVE
Sir! 🙏
typo here, it's "PASSIVE" Sir!
🤷🏻♂️
I feel like you are confused between consistency and repetition
take a chill with the after effects templates you use man. trying to watch a educational video, don't need to trip with flashing imagery
Bro STFU lol you can move on to another channel
It's a blatant example of.....bad design. Kinda cuts down his credibility.
I learn better with flashy, so I say let him be.
Maybe lay it out as a suggestion, not as though you know better than him, what he should do with his videos.
I'm pretty sure there are other channels without the "flashy" you are "tripping over".
I like it tbh. Keeps the video interesting
@@vicktoroberto5192people would rather complain than find something they like 🤦🏾♂️
i Got 25....Sigh
It's not a bad score 👍
@@SatoriGraphics 🥺 thank you... I'll keep trying my best to do better 😩
labara puds ulo imuha video oi
you violated every principles in the making of this video: the colours and type were a mess; there's no cohesion.
It's a compilation of multiple videos across 2-3 years, have a good weekend
@@SatoriGraphics is that what you'd tell your client? "It a compilation of multiple posters across years, have a good weekend". lmao. this wasn't the video to be lazy with lad.
You say repetition but I think it’s better for brands to be obsessed with a style rather than just looking at it as repetition.
Obsession means loyalty ya know
Tf? Every successful brand uses Repetition. Why do we equate the swoosh and "just do it" with Nike? The Blue Can with Pepsi? Because visuals were repeated so often that eventually they become synonymous with the brands they represent. Repetition creates a sense of consistency by using a repeating motif that the viewer comes to expect. This makes it particularly useful when it comes to creating your distinct brand identity. Once your audience latches onto the distinct "Style" of your brand it is *imperative* that you apply the principle of *Repetition* across all touch points and collaterals. You have a lot to learn man...
@@VerdantJedi your plan is to see what works and run in circles til you die
my plan is to be obsessed with my work and improve it over time
we are not the same
@@Austinn72 hahaha
@@Austinn72 Well you can't improve if you don't even fckin know what works lol
@@VerdantJedi that’s what you think. And I’ll be here studying and you’ll be over there running in circles with a smile on your face as your viewcount goes up only to wake up to a reality that has forgotten you. Mean while I was still studying and “improving” for myself and not for validation. And my dreams will always be greater because I don’t see value in money. I see value in depth and passion.
As valuable as your content is, the fact that you have music playing in the background is too annoying for me to absorb the teaching you offer. i understand there are those in your audience that welcome that element in your presentation but it's just too much for me. i've tried several times and the outcome is always the same. The music seems to give the content an entertaining feel but i'm focused on grasping the lessons purely academically. i don't remember any of my classroom lessons or training for that matter as a student that had music playing in the background, and i think there's a practical reason for that. It would be nice in the future if TH-cam provided a way for content providers on the platform to give the option to turn off the background music to their viewers in case there is any playing in the video.
I found this video too repetitive
👍
