Dinosaur Jr. - "Watch The Corners" off their album 'I Bet On Sky.' Out on September 18, 2012 via Jagjaguwar. Directed by The Director Brothers Produced by Sean Boyle / Funny Or Die
Kinda like Motorhead!LOL! Just kidding, but Motorhead's 22 or so albums all sound the same! I was a teen in the 80's and have heard of Dinosaur Jr since the late 80's/early 90's but never really gave them a listen, being a heavy duty headbanger. Saw an e-mail for local concerts today and saw they are playing in Hamilton. Thought I'd check them out. This song is pretty good. On to the next one. I may just have to check them out live!
J is brilliant. Got a great player who can sing well while playing at the same time and is also creative enough to write memorable songs? You got a winner.
I hate to be that guy but aside from this song I didn't like any of the other tracks on this album. Yet, this is pretty much their best song ever. IMHO.
Ten years has passed this week... I used to get emotional when I was a teenager listening to this on my bedroom, and then I got emotional rewatching this ten years latter. Well...
Are you serious!? You need to expand your musical horizon. That solo was fucking terrible and any aspiring guitarist can come up with that style of soloing after a year of learning the pentatonic scales. Check out Pantera’s cemetery gates solo and then tell me if this solo is still the best. And that’s just off the top of my head btw
This is insanely good. The song, the video, that killer solo at the end--everything. Totally holds up after all these years and will continue to do so.
J rarely hits any bad notes in his solos. Even from day one back in the early 80s he has been nailing all his leads like nothing. Truly a underrated guitarist. he deserves the same acclaim as any of the so called 'guitar gods'.
This is one of those totally forgotten, underrated masterpieces that come from time to time....well, like nearly all Dino Jr songs. Not seen much bands with such personality and unique sound.
The little break at 3:08 with the floor buffer spinning out in slow motion and the two on the bike is so great. Especially the little chug-chug that brings it all back in. Reminds me of being younger and listening to old school Dinosaur Jr on my headphones while skatin' around in the spring, bummed over some pending heartbreak, but happy to soak up the sun/catch some breeze. That's how youth worked, either cruising under the sun or wrapped up in the night; a little heartbroken, but mostly free.
i was fourteen when I hear the first time The amazing Dinosaur's now 31 years later I am 45 and I am still listening to it . That says everything, timeless music
God his solos build into some of the greatest sounds ever recorded on a guitar....unreal...and it’s even more crazy that this is after like 7 or 8 albums and they still deliver unreal songs like this....it just shows the true genius of J
Every morning came I don't like that you can hide in We expect the same But I've no one to confide in And I want you to be with us And in time there's no forgiveness And the plan was set in stone long ago There's never not a time not to know Can I run, but you'll be there Disappear it's never fair It's like a stare When I call to tell you no Every action going slow Can I whisper all alone Can I find it far from home There's a time to make you move All at once the time flew Every morning came I don't like that you can hide in We expect the same But I've no one to confide in And I want you to be with us And in time there's no forgiveness And the plan was set in stone long ago There's never not a time not to know Can I run, but you'll be there Disappear it's never fair It's like a stare When I call to tell you no Every action going slow Can I whisper all alone Can I find it far from home There's a time will make you move All at once the time flew Hey me watch the corners, Watch me 'cause I know what you done Hey me don't you know Watch me 'cause I'm all alone
Great tune and video. I am guessing people who don't like the video relate to the kid. Being as old as the band members, I relate to the dad. Thanks for the last 27 years of great music!
All us grunge era kids are getting old and are kids are almost grown..this hits home..my daughter is 17 and hardly hangs out with me anymore..always with her boyfriend..I just miss her now..enjoy every minute with your kids they grow up so fast
J R maybe, I’m guessing he was just pissed off he knew he fucked up raising her somehow that he didn’t get her to know about shitheads like the pixel guy and I’m guessing he already knew the outcome of it, he was probably that shithead
Great song. Awesome video. Really, really well made. In 5 minutes, this video comes across as more authentic than at least 50% of what Hollywood calls emotive storytelling.
The voice in sweet, the guitars sound like an orchestra and the video gets me a lot an it's very appropriate for the mood of the song! Cool to see the band popping out in the tv.
Why do these 90s songs always get me right in the chest? I mean bands like Dinosaur Junior, Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Live, Pearl Jam - they just clutch at my soul more than any other era. I wish I was a 90s teen.
M.C. LMC Read my comment again - you misunderstood it. There's tons of good music being made now. All I said was that the 90's had something unique and special that I haven't found in other eras (which have their own special aspects).
it was a time when it was cool to be super pissed at everything. That's why it's magical. Nowadays, people are too high and mighty to get angry over things they care about.
What happened to Dinosaur Jr's music videos? I was expecting a shoe-string budget video featuring Sesame Street puppets swaying with dancing clay sculptures in a kaleidoscope desert made of cellophane....
This song is great, maybe my favorite of their "reunion" era (thanks god it's a reunion that has lasted for nearly 10 years haha). I had the luck to see them live in Chile for free in a very hipster festival. They started with this song just in the sunset, the sky was orange and with the smell of weed. A really really chill moment. Then they played little fury things and it all changed to chaos haha.
I envy you, damn i do. I live in Iquique. So impossible to make it through. was it like 3 years ago maybe in O'higgins park right?? Heard in radio futuro about the show. but way too late to travel just to see them live and free...

This clip always gives me shivers... On the one hand, growing up as a teenager, sadly I have not always been a gentleman to the girls and on the other hand I became father of a girl last year... So this song and clip makes me think about some stuff...
I’ve been in that same pool too many times. Happily married now. But there’s shit you can never forget from your past. Can’t wait to see them on Saturday. My favourite band of all time.
I’ve loved this song for years, and I always assumed it was about watching the corners of tables, chairs and counters, to protect your child from bumping their heads. J played this live on some radio show and immediately before it, he said something like "this song is about the life of a vampire." I have no idea what that means. My guess is that the "corners" are figurative. Like the old phrase "knocking around weird corners," in other words, watch the unexpected snags or complications that appear in whatever your plan is. He mentions a "plan" in the lyrics.
One of my favorite s . Saw these guys 3 times in the mid 90's . I feel lucky for that. Just love Mr Mascis. My wife doesn't get it. But I'm a 43 year old dad and my son will listen to Dino for sure. Such a great time in my life back then.
Dino Jr. is one of those bands which can make 100 albums of the same genre and they all be good and have something unique to them.

J Mascis is terribly underrated.

not without following them up with satisfying harmonic resolutions at least :p
He is great. I love his dissonant tendencies.
Agreed
Saw him live and it was crazy how it sounded so natural live.
Give him a Nobel Prize for Services to Music
This is one of those totally forgotten, underrated masterpieces that come from time to time....well, like nearly all Dino Jr songs. Not seen much bands with such personality and unique sound.
Heidecker has the ultimate "square dad" look. totally perfect for that role. they shoulda had Wareheim play her boss or something though!!

How'd you fuck that one up?
Big Brother I think that’s just called having a daughter
You can always fix things man. It’s never too late to try! Good luck
Yeah, me2 bro.
she'll come back around, its that age gap thing
When they hit "Hey Me / watch the corners" OMG I start to feel so sad...
the feels man, the feels.
This song is so good I can't stand it.
Every morning came
I don't like that you can hide in
We expect the same
But I've no one to confide in
And I want you to be with us
And in time there's no forgiveness
And the plan was set in stone long ago
There's never not a time not to know
Can I run, but you'll be there
Disappear it's never fair
It's like a stare
When I call to tell you no
Every action going slow
Can I whisper all alone
Can I find it far from home
There's a time to make you move
All at once the time flew
Every morning came
I don't like that you can hide in
We expect the same
But I've no one to confide in
And I want you to be with us
And in time there's no forgiveness
And the plan was set in stone long ago
There's never not a time not to know
Can I run, but you'll be there
Disappear it's never fair
It's like a stare
When I call to tell you no
Every action going slow
Can I whisper all alone
Can I find it far from home
There's a time will make you move
All at once the time flew
Hey me watch the corners,
Watch me 'cause I know what you done
Hey me don't you know
Watch me 'cause I'm all alone
Thanks, homie.
Love the end. He made a mess that the worker has to clean up. Just like the worker made a mess the father has to clean up.
I think that the "mess" should have been pixelated by proxy
He is telling another story too, but it would only be recognized by a few... maybe all.
Wait, the fatty is her father? I thought he was her boyfriend lol.
As a father of 3 daughters, I love this video!
I'm a forty-year-old dad a wonderful 18 year old girl(woman😩) and this song gets me right in the feels

Dinosaur Jr. slacking around since 1984... this video alone (not to mention the sound) is so 1990's!

The kid is lucky he didn't punched out! Good tune as usual!
I can't get enough of this song.
Same.
I used to be the skater kid. Now I'm the dad.... Ooooh farts...
Atleast you got a face man

It makes me sad too. I think of the video every time I hear it.

Love it. Great interpretation... IIRC, this song is about vampires - Im assuming the corners are the end of a wooden stake?
