Thank you so much for filming all of this. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes thinking of all the wonderful memories I have of this ride. So amazing you got to be there for the close of it.
Same, tho. It was such a wonderful ride, and while I don't doubt the Frozen ride is good, this will always hold a special place in my heart. Tears everyntime, I swear!
My cousin and I grew up on this ride (basically). I am Norwegian (my mom is from Norge) and We were always so happy to be on this ride. When I heard it was closing I cried for a good hour. I remember it being especially cold in there as well. It was the best ride ever and was ignored by so many people. But when ever we went it was the first ride we went on ( then about 20 time after that and before for we left too). Seeing all the pride for Norway in the beginning and end of this video made me tear up. Thanks for this wonderful video. If I was there I would have been draped in the flag too lol
Thank you so much for posting this! I absolutely love Maelstrom and since I live in Texas, there was absolutely not chance of me being able to get down there to ride it one last time. I'm so glad I got to share in this moment via youtube!
I know this is 8 years late to the party, but I remember the one time I ever rode Maelstrom. I was below the age of 8 and I remember my dad wanting to bring me on this so badly. The only things I could remember were going backwards, the trolls, and the mural while boarding the ride. After watching this I'm quite grateful I got to go on it once before it was gone. Sure it wasn't the most impressive attraction but it had its unique charm to it that set it apart from everything else. I just hope they still kept those troll animatronics somewhere, hopefully Disney can do something useful with them one day.
My family has so many memories wrapped up in that ride. So very sad to see it go. The 'feel' of the Norway pavilion will be forever changed. Bittersweet :(
one of those rides that holds a special place in everyones hearts. No, it wasn't a thrill ride, it didn't have high tech effects, but being there so long it turned into an icon of epcot. I have yet to see the frozen movie but even if I ever do I don't think the new ride will mean much to most of us.
You're absolutelty right! This new Frozen ride is clearly going to be targeted towards mostly 5 year old girls. I wouldn't recommend seeing Frozen (the movie) not just because of this, but when I first saw it in theaters last year, I thought it was just average at best. I've seen way better (like the Lion King and Toy Story) and way worse (like Home on the Range).
I know!! It was constantly overlooked because of its age, and plus, its not like you'll ever be able to get on the frozen ride without waiting at LEAST 2 hours, so...
TheBazinga314 I just saw the Frozen movie about a week ago and am still trying to figure out why the movie is so loved. I agree with you that the movie was average at best
Bazinga314, I also watched Frozen because i wondered why it was so ridiculously popular and it was so boring that I don't remember even half of the film or what happened in the end. I'd rather watch one of the older Disney films from 20-30 years before. Those were miles better than Frozen.
Man, this video gave my nostalgia because I remember stepping into Maelstrom queue and I suddenly had a relief from the Florida sun. I also remember talking to my mom about the ride while in the line and just watching a person with a princess jacket getting on. Also getting blinded by the first part. Thanks for filming this! I love how you guys were shouting "MAELSTROM ROCKS!" and having a good time. *wipes away tear* But why would Disney take this ride away when so MANY of us love it? It doesn't make since but I think if just for 'money'.
I feel honored to have been able to ride Maelstrom several times including my last time in September. I love this ride and im glad people gave this ride the respect it deserved at the end. Long lives Maelstrom!
I actually went to epcot about a month after this ride closed and I actually went up to this ride's building just because I wanted to get a good long look at it for the last time even though it was closed. it was really sad to see the ride with the doors permanently closed and the longer I stood outside the building, the more I wished I could just walk inside it one last time and at least be able to see the boarding area again just for the purpose of nostalgia. nothing lasts forever unfortunately and despite how mad I am about a frozen attraction replacing a ride that educates you on norway's culture, times change and I have to learn to move on. r.I.p. malestrom. I miss you a lot :(
I went about 4 months after it closed and while my family went into the stores I stayed out side at the boarded up blue doors trying to get a peek through the small crack to see if the ride was still there (I was younger) but when I heard that the Frozen ride you would not believe how mad I was. I HATE the Frozen ride. I went back 2 weeks ago and my family dragged me on the Frozen ride. I completely ignored it (except when I gave Elsa a big middle finger even though that ride deserves a lot more than that) and tried to pretend I was on Maelstrom, remembering where everything was and it just made me so mad and angry at the same time.
I love moments like this... I'm not going to pretend like this was my favorite ride, but I do like it and had good memories of it. It was something that took you to another place. You stepped out of the Florida heat and were suddenly in the frozen north. I got goosebumps seeing the people watching at the end of the ride and applauding for the last boat. You can tell it meant something to them, and it was a big moment to be there. Cheers to all the Imagineers and Cast Members who made the ride magical all those years. Or should I say Skal!
Maelstrom was great! One time when I was 3 years old,it was so rainy at Epcot. So we had to ride this over and over again until the rain stopped, even though I was to young to ride it! I last rode Malestrom on spring or Easter of 2014. So yeah,Maelstrom will be missed. 😥
Malestrom was so awesome, I constantly miss it everytime I go to Norway. My last ride was late September 2014 so I got to ride it one more time shortly before it closed.
This nearly made me cry. Maelstrom was one of my favorite rides at EPCOT and I was so glad to ride it one last time in May, not realizing its closure at the time. I still can't believe it's gone and the fact that it's going to be replaced with a freaking Frozen ride. Putting that ride in EPCOT is a big mistake. World Showcase's main theme is the history of each of the 11 countries, NOT Disney princesses! Plus, Arendelle is NOT even a real country! I was already starting to get annoyed by the excessive hype but when I heard the news, it made me further dislike Frozen. RIP Maelstrom :(
You can see me at 4:41 on the far right filming with my sister.I was in the lines, so she actually sneaked past security into the fasts lane when they were turning people away. We didn't get out of the ride till 10pm so I don't know what she would have done.
+Jamey Cicalese Thank you for this recording. I always enjoyed this ride even the first time I rode it in 1988. The last time I rode Maelstrom was in 2013. I will remember this ride forever. To me it want be the same without it. Maelstrom will always rock!!!!!
This will always be in my fondest memories of Epcot. I once rode it 15 times during one week I stayed here. This ride rocks and I hate it's gone because the last time I rode it was 1995, and I will always cherish those memories. Long live the Maelstrom!
Soon, there won't be anything EPCOT-related left! Disney is one day going to lose a lot of repeat visitors because they're tired of the princess-themed silly attractions. They could have torn down NEMO and put it there. The NEMO pavilion was empty when I went! The old Disney World is gone and I'll miss it BUT that doesn't mean I'm planning any more trips back. The last time I went (a year ago), I felt "out of place" because I hardly recognized anything. I hadn't been back in about 7-8 years and many attractions I loved as a kid were gone. I saw two or three of the new ones and was disappointed. Even the Living Seas was being torn apart. Honestly, I didn't have much fun on what might be my very last visit to Disney World.
They're going to turn this great attraction into ANOTHER saccharine infested princess ride? They have a crapload of others so why another one? Ridiculous. The last time I went, a lot of my favorite attractions were replaced by attractions that weren't even remotely fun or interesting. I don't know if I'll ever consider a trip to DW again because I'm afraid I won't have much fun. The rides/attractions are getting worse every time they "improve" the parks.
I always wondered why they got rid of this ride, when everyone was saying, go away go away go away, are they saying go away frozen or maelstrom? Probably frozen,
I guess you went on very slow days. I've been to Disney World twice and this one always had the longest lines of all the attractions in World Showcase. I had to get a Fast Pass to see it last time!
Whats happening to this place looks like they're shutting everything down is there anything left there seems like it won't be long before they start shutting Epcot itself down
What a bummer. We had a fastpass (paper ticket due to fastpass+ failure) in april for this, but it broke down right when we got to the entrance....never to be ridden again....boohoo.
To put a Frozen Ride IN Epcot! Is a mistake. Put it in Fantasy Land. Not in the A Country's ride, nor any where in the world showcase. It's ridiculous. Frozen is way overrated and If they are destroying a World case ride, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a MMORPG like they did with POTC
+Emily Darkmorgan Disagree! Frozen is a good fit for Norway because people have not been paying attention to the Scandinavian atmosphere in the movie. This is only for the new kids!
TrollsFanatic 2004 yes, very much. I am very excited for the Ratatouille ride. When I heard about Frozen I have been angry ever since, I still love Disney but I will never forgive them for this
I loved disney rides old and new, but people please! There are children starving in Africa and this is where we choose to applaude? Everybody calm the F down. Im sure you will ride the frozen ride against your better judgement!
Ugh, people are making it sound like Disney is replacing Pirates of the Caribbean or something for a Frozen ride. It's an old, sad D-ticket ride that hasn't been updated or changed in any way or form since it opened in the 80's, which is pretty obvious. I agree 100 %
same feelings, I cry every time I hear the song in the movie
Awesome video! It's a sad day for us Maelstrom fans, but you captured a great and emotional night. Thank you.
Thank you so much for posting this! I absolutely love Maelstrom and since I live in Texas, there was absolutely not chance of me being able to get down there to ride it one last time. I'm so glad I got to share in this moment via youtube!
I never got to ride this ride, so thank you for posting this video in the first place.

t206kid I also don't understand what is so great about that movie. The ride is AWFUL though
You truly were the last. I was thinking of going that weekend but couldn't, but have gone there 3 times in recent history. Thanks for posting

It was just for money, Disney basically confirmed it

I was hoping somebody caught this on film! Thanks!

R.I.P. Maelstrom. Once i get to the World Showcase section on my model, i'll make sure Maelstrom, and not Frozen, will be depicted.
Fighting the good fight. "Never forget this existed."
Good
The movie always makes me cry. Soo many memories of my early childhood on this ride
It will be missed
do the bart thisismetimmychangename The Spirit of Norway
This nearly made me cry. Maelstrom was one of my favorite rides at EPCOT and I was so glad to ride it one last time in May, not realizing its closure at the time. True... The frozen ride should've went to Magic Kingdom
Well Arendelle was based on Norway.
no it wasn't
Kameron Peterson Yes it was
i will never forget this
I went on that ride in November 12th 2003 it was fantastic i loved that ride im going to miss it
You can see me at 4:41 on the far right filming with my sister.I was in the lines, so she actually sneaked past security into the fasts lane when they were turning people away. We didn't get out of the ride till 10pm so I don't know what she would have done.
I was the loud guy, When I say Maelstrom you say rocks!!!
Awesome!
Jamey Cicalese I love you man!
+Jamey Cicalese Thank you for this recording. I always enjoyed this ride even the first time I rode it in 1988. The last time I rode Maelstrom was in 2013. I will remember this ride forever. To me it want be the same without it. Maelstrom will always rock!!!!!

Classic Epcot. Not much of it left.

At least we still have Figment with us. Last year they rumored Figment to be replaced with an Inside Out ride. Which I hate Inside Out!
I enjoyed Maelstrom attraction. It’s not the same anymore. 😢
I'm crying so much right now
I can still recite 90% of Maelstrom by heart
So can I, I hate Frozen
Hope to have “The Spirit of Norway” 🇳🇴 to be available on Disney+ worldwide. But for me, no desire to subscribe to Disney+.
I always liked the ride and the entire Norway pavilion
They're going to turn this great attraction into ANOTHER saccharine infested princess ride? They have a crapload of others so why another one? Ridiculous. Was it closed to make a frozen ride
Actually the reason is one word
Money!
Yes and this was Disney's dumbest mistake to date
its gone! 😥😥😥😥🌺🌺🌺🌺
I'm crying. It's so sad that they stop the World Showcase- Tradition
We still have American Adventure.
How many years of memories
how many years of memories
I find it funny that nobody really cared for the ride until all of a sudden they announced it closing.
it had a cult following, it was that ride that you always had to go on
I always loved it
I guess you went on very slow days. I've been to Disney World twice and this one always had the longest lines of all the attractions in World Showcase. I had to get a Fast Pass to see it last time!
That's because world showcase only has 2 rides.
Is my mind playing tricks on me, or did they actually edit the audio spoken by Odin for the last boat ?
Apparently it was just my mind playing tricks on me.
This video is so good you can almost smell the Geir cologne.
still crying
Whats happening to this place looks like they're shutting everything down is there anything left there seems like it won't be long before they start shutting Epcot itself down
I saw someone crying, they looked really sad..
15:34someone said I don’t want it to leave really fast..
Why did they have to replace this gem with a Frozen ride?
Do you think that "Frozen" will have a multi-decade run at Epcot ?? Not a chance. Another stupid move by Disney.
They closed this great ride for a ride about the worst Disney movie ever. Nice move, Disney.
The new frozen ride is now open
And it sucks
What a bummer. We had a fastpass (paper ticket due to fastpass+ failure) in april for this, but it broke down right when we got to the entrance....never to be ridden again....boohoo.

They announced a Ratatouille ride coming to the France pavilion. Isn’t that more excited than just Frozen?
TrollsFanatic 2004 yes, very much. I am very excited for the Ratatouille ride. When I heard about Frozen I have been angry ever since, I still love Disney but I will never forgive them for this
i have never rode it but i am mad at disney for closing it.😠😠😢😢
I loved disney rides old and new, but people please! There are children starving in Africa and this is where we choose to applaude? Everybody calm the F down. Im sure you will ride the frozen ride against your better judgement!
Your writing this comment on a disney ride? Wtf😂😂😂
Everybody hates Frozen!
awesome
Farewell night
Maelstrom got closed to make a frozen ride!
Yes it’s awful..
I started crying at 10:40
Same, but it’s never gonna come back );
There's gonna be a new frozen ride! It will open soon.
And it sucks
14:44 "Let's set the building on fire" XD wish you would have done that so that awful Frozen ride wasn't there
#savethemaelstrom
Miss it. Frozen is dumb.
В этот раз не смешно было как в тех выпусках. Молол не понять что.
Ugh, people are making it sound like Disney is replacing Pirates of the Caribbean or something for a Frozen ride. What are you talking about this ride has been here for a while. While you may not like it it brings people a ton of memories sorry you aren't that person....
Sorry you couldn't enjoy the best ride in EPCOT
Those who hate Frozen may have a frozen heart! Honestly, in my opinion, Maelstrom sucked and it looks like a Viking art museum than just a thrill ride. Can't wait for the Frozen ride!
The Frozen ride is a shitty, rushed cash-grab ride. I actually like the redesign more, maelstrom is a dated ride
First person I've ever heard of that has like Frozen better. It was a shitty, rushed cash-grab ride.
