Full disclosure, I'm new to the hobby. But I would argue that 151 was the set that got everyone excited, and Surging Sparks + Prismatic Evolutions is the main course so to speak. it's like the Vince McMahon meme where his face keeps getting more shocked/excited. 🤣

As I watch the question I have is this, is there a way to know the odds of pulling the hard to find cards? I am a newbie to the hobby and actually have not even bought any cards yet. What I am attracted to is the art in some cards. I enjoy looking at things of beauty and so many cards are so beautiful. And the number of top notch content makers here on TH-cam including yourself are just outstanding. The entertainment value is off the charts. I think my first purchase is going to be today!

I’ve just started collecting pokemon cards and this is insane and fun at the same time. I should’ve started this earlier because the dophamine rush when getting illustration rares and special illustration rares are really really nice. I just need to pace myself on spending on this and just collect casually. Really enjoy your analysis though. Greatly help us new collectors to understand the trends more. Thank you!

I remember when SV was getting a lot of hate and people just wanted more SWSH. I was really happy with SV because I felt the art was getting so much better.
I recently started collecting my first ever master set in Crown Zenith. I'm currently just over 10 cards away and I'm so excited to be finally finished! Bought it as kind of a fun thing to collect on the side, but also to hold onto as a long term investment. The 4 gold chase cards I bought in PSA10s because they are seriously my favorite cards of all time and they are SO GORGEOUS!!! I'm really excited to play around with other Pokemon card investments in the future!

I ended up buying a single booster box of Surging Sparks before prices started to rocket past $160 USD, AND by sheer luck, I pulled the Pikachu EX SIR 😭 Needless to say, the adrenaline and hype from that unbelievable pull just makes me want to buy and collect more. I'm trying not to dive too deep into buying everything all at once, so I stumbled onto one of your videos and I found your market insights to be incredibly helpful for a first-time collector navigating through this hobby.

Appreciate your content! I honestly feel like Pokemon has grown because of timing and the world we live in. Pokemon GO brought so many people back to Pokemon. COVID hit and forced a lot of people to learn of new ways to make money. Open world games like Arceus and S+V bringing childhood dreams of nostalgic collectors back. Launch Detective Pikachu bringing new people into Pokemon. Launch Pokemon 151 tapping into nostalgia again. It all makes sense. While things are high then you launch the TCG Player app. Well done Pokemon marketing team.
I’ve gotten back into Pokemon cards after 15 years because there haven’t been any new Pokemon video games released this year. I’ve needed something to put my time into and now I’m obsessed with Pokemon collecting. It’s been such a fun year joining the hobby and participating in Pokemon League. Surging Sparks is igniting so much hype, but the next few sets aren’t going to stop. However there is only so much people are willing to spend on cards. Will be very difficult to predict what will happen next
It seems like a lot of the popular cards and chase cards are from earlier gens (1-5), which makes sense with a majority of the fanbase coming in from 151

Congrats on the drip promo! That’s huge man GG! and as for me he hype in Pokémon, I honestly don’t think people are ready for what’s to come on the next 6-12 months. It’s becoming evident the Pokémon company can only print so many cards and the current demand, wherever that may be coming from, is absolutely bonkers right now and surging sparks is just the beginning 😂 imagine if prismatic evolutions came out this December instead and it was the “holiday set of 2024”… the excitement would be unreal. Just started collecting pokemon cards (surging sparks time). Pulled 17 packs in total (etb, 2 3pack bundle, and 2 single packs). Got skarmory IR, Latias SIR and gold alolan exeggutor. I decided to stop with the SS set. I am highly anticipating for prismatic evolutions. I have to save money now haha 😂 btw, from what set is that Chi-yu? So pretty❤❤
Popularity increasing is not a bad thing! That just sounds like a good, organic, natural growth! There's just more people with more money atm. Not a bad thing.
All the latest chase card is out of my range now. Best way is to wait it out and get them in months time. My strategy now is try to collect other more underated card from paldean fates, obsidian flames, and so on.
I've really been enjoying discovering your videos as I've gotten deeper into the hobby. Your mindset of collecting cards that you truly personally enjoy has always been my instinct with collecting, and your videos are by far the most grounded in relaying that. Thank you for all of your continued insights. :) It really helped me to just outright buy the Squirtle IR from SV:151 instead of blowing a bunch of money to rip packs to maybe get my favorite pokemon! cheers
I've been so excited for the new 151 box coming out in February, I didn't get back into collecting until after 151's initial release. Also that chi yu would look real good with my Pal Fates gold chi yu and paldea evolved full art 😏
I think the catch is that I dont make enough money to fund my habit 😂 great video Phil. The demand lately is massive! There has been a lot of nostalgia in these last few sets with Pikachu, the new eeveelution sets, and even the Latias and Latios in the new set as a reminder of that beautiful tag team card. You're definitely right that the new TCGP game brought more people back. Since the game only include the original 151 and some of the OG artworks with alt arts, it's almost like the same effect that Evolutions originally had with nostalgia, and then the TCG151 had. I still think SS is overhyped. Looking to get a box after Christmas. I already have Drip and it's a great app! Congrats on the partnership!
I will be honest I have been buying cards since 2015 and I still am and I think the pikachu is going to go to 500 to 600 and then the next generation 1000 it’s going to be insane but also I’m trying to win the giveaway in the vid but it’s up to you to decide
I've always loved playing and collecting the cards, but the prices are definitely making it a lot harder for me to collect the newer cards. Also, the constant checking on cards to check when cards are doing best and the best time to sell.
I think sword and shield did well with their alt arts , galarian gallery and Covid played a role. 151 brought in the nostalgia and those that were lost came back and are staying. With a Pikachu set, another Eeveeloutions set, team rocket set back to back - its going to continue. Problem then is how can they keep up that excitement for each subsequent set? There will be a period where they are coming up short with the set releases and the wind in the sails die off. I think that is when a downturn will happen.

I can see what you’re saying, but no one knows I own it - except my spouse. I got it for an investment but then I fell in love…there really is no other card like it. The price is getting so high, it’s just hard to let it go.
Great information as always. I think 2025 is going to be absolutely crazy for singles, graded, and sealed products. Who knows what pokemon is going to do. I hope they push out some releases to do reprints to try and control this bull market a bit
The best thing about all of this was no one got into collecting shrouded fables, but as a playing expansion it's busted and super cheap to fill a binder

Here’s a day. I’m pretty sure you should pick this comment. One because Squirtle war turtle blast is probably my favorite evolutionary line in Pokémon. War turtle be my favorite Pokémon of all Pokémon second because of watching your videos in the past few weeks I’ve invested smart and grown in a matter of a month or so maybe two till about $850 that’s including completing the champions path. The Pokémon TCG pocket is my guess for the sudden boom of interest. That's why I'm here. I haven't tried collecting Pokemon since the OG card days.

I see this as a serious trap for collectors. Stay focused on your goals! It’s really challenging.

I've always loved playing and collecting the cards, but the prices are definitely making it a lot harder for me to collect the newer cards. Also, the constant checking on cards to check when cards are doing best and the best time to sell.
I think sword and shield did well with their alt arts , galarian gallery and Covid played a role. 151 brought in the nostalgia and those that were lost came back and are staying. With a Pikachu set, another Eeveeloutions set, team rocket set back to back - its going to continue. Problem then is how can they keep up that excitement for each subsequent set? There will be a period where they are coming up short with the set releases and the wind in the sails die off. I think that is when a downturn will happen.

I can see what you’re saying, but no one knows I own it - except my spouse. I got it for an investment but then I fell in love…there really is no other card like it. The price is getting so high, it’s just hard to let it go.

Great information as always. I think 2025 is going to be absolutely crazy for singles, graded, and sealed products. Who knows what pokemon is going to do. I hope they push out some releases to do reprints to try and control this bull market a bit
I'm not sure I can handle the stress of surging sparks. Can't imagine what it's going to be like for prismatic evolutions.
The best thing about all of this was no one got into collecting shrouded fables, but as a playing expansion it's busted and super cheap to fill a binder

Here’s a day. I’m pretty sure you should pick this comment. One because Squirtle war turtle blast is probably my favorite evolutionary line in Pokémon. War turtle be my favorite Pokémon of all Pokémon second because of watching your videos in the past few weeks I’ve invested smart and grown in a matter of a month or so maybe two till about $850 that’s including completing the champions path.
