I'm brand new to warhammer and have decided to start with Custodes, and this video is exactly what I needed! I'd love to see more in the future, especially more on what characters ought to lead what units, and how to play different detachments. For now thought I'm definitely gonna give that army building video a watch!
@1pieveofKH Welcome aboard to the Custodes! Now that I know these kinds of videos are in high demand. More guides and tips on how to play will be on the channel more often
Really good idea bro was just thinking a tips and tricks video would be good for newcomers like me. Maybe a how to play into each army? Or how we can counter them?
This is great. List videos are a big help, especially for new players but the next step is “how do I use the units in my list”. I hope to see more of this from TH-camrs who focus on a particular faction.
Just got my first two CP boxes(9th&10th) of Custodes because I fell victim to the algorithm. All I wanted to was painting some minis and listen to some lore in the background during wintertime. Guess I might even look into the actuall game - so thanks for the video mate!
@@HubtownHammer awesome!! Some place that I have never been! When the time comes I will go there to meet you, and fuck some money on W40K and beer! That is a promise. Maybe you can show me where the ladies are and all! Count on that! I’m From Aveiro, Portugal.
I always found it easy to bring sticky notes and write down my abilities, enhancements down, and putting them next to the units. Helps me out alot especially if your new to the army and helps opponent out knowing the -1 to wound warden rule.
Love these tips! Can you make a video about budget list options for a new player? What to buy first, second etc? How to make budged, but good lists for more casual plays?
The new combat patrol is insane, personaly I started with both combat patrol , a box of wardens and a box of allarus , for around 300€ (i dont know how much it is in USD) you get pretty much every custodians key units (except forge world) and a strong list but not competitive, Hope this helps !
Great video! Just started painting a custode army and played like 1.5 games in tts with them. The tips helped my understand why all are taking spears and the ranking of the characters. Few other tips I learned from playing with experienced custode player is to always attach characters to wardens first, and to always take vaxila as it's free on Wardens. One thing I am not clear on, how many sisters to take to battle and what kind. The witchseekers looks the best?
Witchseekers are great for early board control because they have a 6" scout move. Prosecutors make good cheap action monkeys. I like to between 1 and 3 sisters units in my lists
Thanks for all the information. I have a Combat Patrol, Auric Champions Battleforce and SOS with. What would you recommend as a tournament army build as I’m a little overwhelmed. Many thanks
Great video. Very clear and explains your logic well. Subbed! I'd be curious about your thoughts on a Psykana Rhino. Because in my experience, it does far more work than it has any right to. 205 points, just ten percent of your list, gets you 2x4 Prosecutors, 4 Witchseekers, all of whom can fit in the Rhino if you're so inclined. You get a ton of utility options, plus a great charge-block unit with the Rhino. Thoughts?
A Rhino with some Sisters is a great little unit. I usually just cram some Witchseekers in the list. But making room for a Rhino is not a bad idea at all.
I haven't got my Knight up and going yet. I have Canis Rex and a few Armigers. Going to get a few more small knights then decide what I need for the big boys.
Since you mentioned Imperial Allies any opinion about the SoS? One Sister of Battle Squad + an Immolator as dedicated transport cost 230 points... for that (many) points you got 1 squad of 10 sisters that for rule of the immolator got split in half (five models embarked, 5 on foot) and each new squad has the sticky objectives rules.
I have seen this mentioned a few times. It is pricey but I think I am going to have to test it to give my full answer. I can see the 2 units to sticky objectives with another armored vehicle on the board could really help the Custodes. Allow us to push enemy objectives with most of our Custodes units.
How many points do you think a Shield-captain would need to be to be a real choice compared to, y'know, Draxus, Blade Champs, Valerian, etc...? Maybe 120? 110?
For characters I also use Aleya, in talons of the emperor her in a vigilator sqad paired with a custodes squad can pull some ridiculous moves. My greatest pain is the cp hunger of the detachment. But honestly if you're smart, you can be a pain in the ass :D
Let me share a little tactical secret: Use taloned Pincer to move Aleya's vigilators (I know they are bad, rule of cool) in front of the custodes when an enemy walks up to you with the not so hidden intention of charging into them. A shield unit that fights first is pretty good to soften the enemy up. If they get shot, just use the shield of honour stratagem on the custodes, which applied to the whole phase, and prevents your psykana unit from being wiped instantly. Honestly, I really love the dynamic of psykana and custodes, I'm new to the army, but talons is probably my favorite detachment, but you can see what I mean when I say it's CP hungry.
@SergeantHazard8 I did that to the Orks one time it was great. You can even use it the other way to throw some Wardens in front of an enemy who wants to charge our more squishy Sisters.
I do! I played a game recently with 2 units of Wardens with 2 units of Custodian Guard. Having 2 units to sticky objectives and more overall re-roll the wound rolls was nice to have in the list.
The thing is you can take 3 Venatari for 25 points more. That will put out more attacks and more dmg even with using moment shackle. Then do more dmg no questions asked after he has used Moment shackle. Don't get caught up in the one turn of 12 attacks. It's only 1 Turn then what else does he bring to your list. I love my Trajann. Yes, he can crush some heads in that one turn. Then, the rest of the game, he is nothing special for 140 points. Bladechampion has AP 3, Damage 3. Devastating Wounds. Reroll charges for his unit and a once per game advance and charge, which really helps our slow army make combat. For 30 points cheaper
You didn’t actually answer axes or spears you just said these like this and this is good for certain niche, it lacks a conclusion of take this over this
Yes I did. I said Spears 90% of the time. Then gave the niche unit you can use Axes on the remaining 10% Then, I gave multiple reasons why the spears are better. I explained why the Axes seem good, but AP 1 is the reason why you do not take them. Unless in the Shield Host Detachment
@@HubtownHammer Thoughts on using From the Hall of Armouries to push say, an Allarus Captain with axe to S10 D4? Given his unit wants to be hunting tanks and monsters with their rerolls to wound it would help him tear through light and medium armour, at the cost of being.... well, very costly.
@Hierakles Hall of Armouries is good to crank that damage up. I actually like Panoptispex on and Allarus Captain to give the whole units shooting Ignore cover. Makes a potent shooting unit with all those Ballistus Grenade Launcher shots included
@@HubtownHammer sustained or lethals for free on the grenade launchers is also hella funny from the shield host strat I had 7d6 +28 with sustained hits into necron warriors, it was very funny

Are they still making Grav-tanks? It has been out of stock for months
Dont rate the dreadnoughts at all?
With Movement 6" they make it hard to give them a good rating. I have a list with 5 Dreads I'm going to try
It's hard to make a great list with diversity.
I don't really find the Caladius so impactful.
And Allarus / Captain are too costly.
Axe should have S10 and AP2.
Suck a waste =/
@@attiladukai2121 Agreed!
Then why take spears at all? Gotta make it balanced
@Billuhhanks still would have 1 less attack. Maybe keep the Str9 dmg 3 but it really needs more ap to make Axes work other than in Shield Host
