Lightning bolt is the shit, and Brian Chippendale is a really cool dude. They're one of the lesser-known bands that somehow many big musicians are into.

1 year update: I listen to this band on a daily basis
Like this would make an ok 2 minute song, but instead they basically play the song two-three times in a row.
The melody actually changes quite a bit throughout, but it's mostly subtle changes, and the bridge at the end is completely different form the verse or chorus, as well as the outro.
The only parts I like are the Jams. Those are honestly the best parts of the song. Should've been more of em.

AquaAnim more than that, accessibility in a song just means that it isn't exactly easy to digest. If you take on one end of the spectrum a song like this, and compare to on the other end of the spectrum your average pop song it's night and day.
You have deep, abrasive, technical rhythms and melodies that take a bit of thought to really dig. It's like the difference between watching something like the Expendables and something like... I dunno some art film or something. It requires a bit of thought from the consumer and not everyone is into that with their entertainment.
If you don't really know what's going down with the instruments and shit it's super easy to just dismiss as noise. But playing something like this live takes so much practice with your band mates to get in sync. I've kind of rambled, so sorry about that.
xxxxsindingbatxxxx You make valid points, but why has music become all about playing difficult things to sound ‘good’ now? Sure, bands like CHON play complex music but they have actual melodies and are accessible. To me, this song comes across as pretentious on so many levels.
As someone with a very open mind to music, this is one of 2 songs I have ever found no redeeming features in.
@@Jessimo223 @Jacomo223 While Lightning Bolt's technical ability is impressive, that is not at all their only appeal. They're one of my favourite bands, and I'm more into their unique sound than their technical skills.
This is not a shot at you (cause I know it can seem like it is), but I actually think it's extremely pessimistic to label a band as pretentious just because they are inaccessible/unconventional to most people. I would call an artist like Hopsin pretentious because most of his music is just talking down to other people to make himself seem smart, but I wouldn't call Lightning Bolt pretentious just because they have an unconventional sound.

That's the "lyrics" to the song, someone is saying that really faintly in the background.
The drummer / lead singer is a pretty eccentric artist. He screams it all the way through but uses a shitty microphone that also goes through an old telephone filter to make the lyrics near unintelligible. I personally think it's pretty cool but noise rock is kind of an acquired taste.

I understand why people think death metal is just noise, it isn't something I would listen to often. For me it is something you have to experience live. I remember when I saw At The Gates live at a festival and it was the best atmosphere of the day. Bear in mind Dragonforce, Stratovarious and Anthrax were there.

This song was like Antibodies by Poni Hoax from RB3... Both look relatively easy, but they were the last ones for me to 5 star on the games, the strumming is so weird.
But really though just listen to those drums! Chippendale is a beast!
actually one of the better, more experimental songs harmonix has put on one of their games but no solo + repetitive sections = BabyRage from the kids. its interesting they put it in, really, considering lightning bolt is a drum/bass duo, no guitar. listen to the song with a good pair of headphones, and not on youtube, you might change your mind, idk. Lightning Bolt is one of my favorite bands, kinda sucks to see all the hate lol

Andrew Hooven Repetitive isnt what makes pop shit. Just because you have ADD and want the songs to have 5 choruses and multiple bridges doesnt mean its any better. Lightning bolts been around a long time, one of the best live shows. Listen to their albums, theyre both technical players in their own way, and both insanely fun live. Its fine to not like them, your opinion and thats fine. But these 2 dudes have contributed a lot to the music scene, as well as are huge influences to a lot of peers. Mixing free jazz, with metal, and noise and many other things, dont judge the band off of one song. Repetitive isnt always bad.
Andrew Hooven I hate pop music because it's all the fucking same. The songs are repetitive, sure, but the real repetition is in how so many of the songs have the same formula, and that there isn't much musicianship in it (this can also apply to 'rap' nowadays, where the lyrics are basically the same, beats are similar, and it just becomes obnoxious to listen to). Plus, when you've heard the same songs ad neaseum, you want something different. This song is different. It is very repetitive, but it's at least something different than the same 6-7 songs on pop radio (which I can't avoid because of rides in other people's cars, hearing other people's earbuds blare out the same shit, and other sources), and the same 25-30 songs on classic rock radio. I love classic rock, but it annoys me when people say they love rock, and they just listen to the same 30 songs on the classic rock station like AC/DC and whatnot. Popular classic rock bores me because of how much I've heard the songs. That's why The Doors are my favourite, because no one else listens to it or has even heard of them up where I live, so it doesn't annoy me, and I really love their songs too. This song is cool to me because it is different from most other genres I actively listen to (I don't experiment much in many aspects of life, especially in artistic areas).

I love Lightning Bolt but even I gotta ask what were they thinking? Maybe they'd work on Guitar Hero with a different song, but on Rock Band? They're a drum and bass noise band. Splitting them into four separate tracks and putting one of their most basic but hard songs on the main set list with the rest of the normal songs was just not a good idea.
This isn't a bad song by any means. It might not be for everyone, but that's a "them" problem and not the song's problem.

In Rock Band 2 there's a Sonic Youth song that has 4 strings all tuned to F# and I think the other 2 are Eb Ab.
There isn't really a "correct" tuning unless you're trying to cover a song lol.
Anonimoose A. that's now what he mean and you know it, a guitar can be out of tune, very easily, if the strings loosen up even a bit, your guitar won't be tuned correctly for what you want to do, I know you can tune it in a different way but that's relative to what you're playing

Art is mostly subjective so some art just doesn't appeal to some people, most people are used to more melodic, nice sounding music as opposed to noise rock which is mostly a "clusterfuck" since it's really textured and is usually more discordant than melodic. I wasn't trying to be snobby I was trying to say, "Hey man you have your opinion and that's fine but there's no need to assert it as it's the be all end all of whether something is good or bad." There's a difference between, "I don't like thing", and, "Thing is BAD."

Fun Fact!: Brian Chippendale (The bassist on this song) is actually the lead art director (I think that's the title) for Harmonix so that probably played a part. Brian Chippendale also plays drums on the song Megasus if you know that one, it's DLC, in fact IIRC the whole band Megasus works for Harmonix.
