You see later, when claire gets to the orphanage, that William went through the gate, slashed the front door open, and trudged his way all the way into that room. Both irons and sherry must've been fucking deaf to have not heard this 9 foot tall monster sneaking up on them.
And William saves his daughter in the end

Yeah in the original, Chief Irons either gets implanted with a G embryo that ends of tearing him open from the inside out and becomes a boss or he gets a claw through his gut by William just right after he starts telling Claire about how he was involved with Umbrella. Then, in Darkside Chronicles Irons ends up mutating into the monster instead of it ripping out of him like a xenomorph and his entire skin peels off of him like the roach from Men in Black.
@@spenserfarman3045 No it still does the same thing in Darkside, the only difference is that it tears him open by growing inside of him rather than bursting out at a smaller size. You can see his torn body fall afterwards.

The area looks like a child's play room or somethin' so it would've made sense.

So many people claimed William saved Sherry was only for the sake of being able to use her for implantation of the G-embryo, while entirely overlooking that William could've just killed Irons and impregnate Sherry on the spot; Even if he has to torture Irons with an embryo purposefully, he could've still kidnapped Sherry instead of leaving the scene and leave her alone.
Until the point he reached stage 2, William is still more or less in control of his mutated body, and he keeping Sherry unharmed isn't an act to keep her alive for implantation, but an act that will be done by any reasonable father who do care for their children.
That's just it, and that leads into the later scene with X. Why would Sherry call out to her father in that moment if she didn't think he might still remember her? Especially since up until that point she thought he was "gone". I think it's far more implied that Sherry didn't get implanted until after G took complete control of William's body in the second stage and caught up to her off-screen while Claire was unconscious.
Also William protecting Sherry just fits better as a parallel to Annette's arc. Sherry's parents are definitely not good people by any means, but Remake did manage to give them more dimension by allowing them to each perform one last act of redemption for their daughter before they died.
I was in the camp of William protecting a resource rather than protecting his daughter. However, I just played this scenario again, and it looks like Birkin didn't completely lose control until he had killed Mr. X, which is the point where his head was absorbed into the G type.
I think William accidentally infected Irons instead of Sherry in that scene. Obviously his body couldn’t handle the virus and killed him.
For those that are new to Resident Evil 2 the G virus has to mate with the closest genetic makeup to the person that was infected and in this case it’s Birkin to Sherry so although he technically saved her it was for a worse reason

To be honest I would have liked to have seen zombie children at the orphanage. It'd give this more terrifying atmosphere to the game. How scary would it have been for Sherry to run away from both Briggs AND zombie children? And Briggs kills them trying to get to Sherry?

THANK you so much. This part was frustrating me because it doesn't give you any hints about what to do, so in the bit where you have to hide, I kept getting caught thinking you had to try and sneak past him and escape. Such a frustrating segment, and somehow harder than the rest of the game LOL

@Playful Fruit Not yet. He doesn't lose control of himself fully until G completely takes control, and that's stage 2. This happens when he's still stage 1, so yes, Birkin did protect sherry as a father here.

You can tell by listening to him yell. He still has some small semblance of humanity left in stage 1. Stage 2 is when G fully takes control due to the head developing. This is the stage he completely loses control and sherry is nothing to him except for reproducing.

If you read “Taxidermy Log” in the Chief’s Log, he writes his thoughts about a deer and a tiger, which can be seen there, and a pig, which is not. He describes it as a 22 year old female. I think he is referring to Katherine as a pig.
