Just some knowledge i have discovered. Stencil film 0.4 setting - i use this for backed stencil film (ormask) that i would normally use for templates etc when airbrushing but it also works for mylar. 2-5 mil worked fine on standard depth. 5-9 mil was half and half on if it worked on standard depth. I got away with standard on most but the deep cut also worked better on some of my designs. I found the more complex designs were trickier but either did some test cuts first to check, or ran the extremely complex pattern option rather than moderate complex. I did notice while watching this that there is also a mylar option in the materials so will have to try that aswell now on some different thickness mylar
Hi thanks for the video! One question I had was when you used your explore to cut the 6 mil mylar, how many passes did you need? Just 1 or did you have to do multiple passes to cut it clean? thanks
Somebody said use deep cut blade and the custom setting for magnetic sheet with the most pressure. Did you figured what settings to use on the maker for this ? I have a maker too
I just bought some mylar 10 mil from Amazon because I read some where that was the correct thickness for reusable. Not having any luck cutting it. Do you ha suggestions cutting 10mil or should I just buy thinner mylar? Thanks
Can we search for images to make stencils like the fonts? Not all images in DS can be made into a stencil. Did you try increasing the blade pressure on your maker? Thank you for this video tut.
Yes but you have to use a small small amount or it will pull off your paint when you take the stencil off. Also it won't be a full-proof seal so you'll still have to be careful
I am also having issues with the maker and stencils. Some cut and some are stuck in the stencil material even after 4 passes with the maker. So I found another video showing to set your own pressure to the max at 374. I am going to give that a try. I am using 6mil with the fine point currently. Anyone else figure out why maker is acting up on stencils?
I am new and was frustrated when cutting my stencil with the mylar this morning. Glad I came across this video. Seenthroughmylens; where do you adjust the pressure to 374? Thanks,
sorry but i did not get much from this. what was the thickness of the mylar? why did it not cut? i was waiting for a solution to your problem sorry for the negativity but i feel you needed to address the problem
I was so excited to find a video that explained how to make a stencil on the Cricut Maker, now I feel disappointed in the machine because it could not cut the mylar, wish I had bought the less expensive explorer😭
I've since switched to a thinner mylar that my Maker will cut ok. And it may just be my maker. I've heard others say they're maker has more pressure than their explore. It definitely taught me no two Cricuts are the same! I would get 4mil mylar and try it out.!
I emailed them and they had me reset the machine and do a few test cuts. I'm not sure what was wrong with it that day, but it was frustrating for sure!
@@DailyDoseofDIY After you reset the machine, did the test cuts work? If so, did it work with the poster board setting, highest pressure, and the deep cut blade? Or did a different combination of settings work?
I’m so glad for this. I only want to cut mylar for murals and this is so helpful for me. Thank you!
I have watched so many videos this is by far the best one!
I didn’t know stencil fonts were a thing. Thanks for showing us how to make regular fonts into stencil fonts. As always, extremely helpful. Thank you!

I learned that you can search for a stencil font and how to make them as well, that's awesome!!! Thanks

You’re doing a great job, Chris. Keep ‘em coming!
Thank you!
I agree...who knew there were "stencil" fonts?! Amazing!
I never really paid attention to the fonts that had stencil in their names! I haven't made my own reusable stencils yet, but now I will!
Thanks so much for this! I always love learning how to create my own stuff.
Did you ever resolve your issue with the maker? I'm trying to decide between this machine and scan n cut machine.
Well, since I haven't gotten an answer, I just went with the scan n cut. It can cut thicker material than the maker.
what kink of cricket machine are you using please? Can you do this with a cricket explore 3? Tahnks.
My reusable stencil material is "old" overlay material used with overhead projectors. Anyone remember those?
I do and I just remembered I have some!!! thanks!
That’s what I use as well 🤘🙌🤘
Thank you for an excellent video on making stencils. I love tole painting small boxes and decorative signs and this is going to help tremendously.
Love watching and learning from your videos

I used 6mm stencil blank with plastic canvas setting and normal blade. It cut twice and seemed to work fine.
I learned something today, didn't know about stenicls. Thank you
Mine doesn't finished the project and stopp cutting after the half. The cut itself is perfect. Any suggestion?

Thank you, didn’t know about stencil fonts. Good lessons in stencils and sponge painting.
Glad it was helpful!
Learned something new. I didn't realize you could bring up just stencil fonts
Yes, It does save some time!
Can we search for images to make stencils like the fonts? Not all images in DS can be made into a stencil. Did you try increasing the blade pressure on your maker? Thank you for this video tut.
So excited to have found this video! I didn’t know there was a font either!
What kind of paint do you use for your stencils.
Can you do this with cricut joy? Ain't nobody showing that
what model cricut is this?
Nice demonstration, but how did you get the design in the letters? J-Y?
Always wanted to make reusable stencil
I love it! Now I feel like I can make one:) Thanks!
Thank you for the great info!!
Where did you get the mylar to use for the stencil?
Amazon ... amzn.to/32FEPZ3
Can you use mod podge on the stencils to protect from bleeding?
Yes but you have to use a small small amount or it will pull off your paint when you take the stencil off. Also it won't be a full-proof seal so you'll still have to be careful
This is so helpful!!
Game changer
what mil is the mylar

So cool! Thx!
Would this work for a cricut joy?
That's what I'm wondering too
Maker has a setting for stencil film I believe.
Did you figure it how to cut the stencil with the maker? I have the maker
sorry but i did not get much from this.
what was the thickness of the mylar?
why did it not cut?
i was waiting for a solution to your problem
sorry for the negativity but i feel you needed to address the problem
Posterboard setting is no longer in the cricut setting :(
It is still a cricut material setting. But there is a space between poster and board. Maybe try searching it that way? I'm looking at it right now.
I was so excited to find a video that explained how to make a stencil on the Cricut Maker, now I feel disappointed in the machine because it could not cut the mylar, wish I had bought the less expensive explorer😭

Daily Dose of DIY with Chris Did you get it to work with the settings you suggested in the video?
@@DailyDoseofDIY After you reset the machine, did the test cuts work? If so, did it work with the poster board setting, highest pressure, and the deep cut blade? Or did a different combination of settings work?
Did the stencil end up workingvwith the maker??
After I click make it, there was nothing saying continue..
It didn't show you your cut mat screen? There should be a continue button on the bottom right of the screen.
Elmers is just not good, it ruins the stencil with lots of gunk.
I'm lost and disappointed, I really feel like I made a mistake buying this machine.
Sorry to hear that. Anything I can help you with?
