Can we let her shine in HER light, please. There's nothing about this young lady's trajectory that says President. That office is not necessary to have a world impact. Words are powerful and someone once said that the pen is mightier than the sword. Let her fight HER fight as the Commander-of-Words. She doesn't need to sit in the oval. She'll sit before television cameras and yield the same power. She'll help her generation, and those to follow, "to embrace the light. To be the light".

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who was completely blown away by Amanda at the inauguration. Her words were so powerful but the way she spoke them moved me to tears. And then I discovered she has a speech impediment. My daughter was in speech therapy for much of her childhood for r's and w's and I saw first hand the work required to overcome that. And then I watched this interview and heard the conviction of her beliefs and how she uses poetry to share them with the world. Just amazing. I'm looking forward to #CamandaInChief2036!

I wonder, just a speculation, whether having to work on your words makes you pay more attention to only bothering with words with worth.
I don't think a poet is qualified for political/high level government positions, regardless of how good of a poet they are.

For the moment she's underage, but she's clearly very very bright and a fine exponent of American values at their best.

Political science, economic knowledge, diplomacy expertise, and many more areas of knowledge are required to really understand any of the higher level political offices. That being said, many people don't hold this level of expertise. A politician should be more than just values and smart wit--they need to understand the "field."

No she is Amanda Gordon, not the next. When Maya Angelou performed during the Inaugural as wonderful as she was, her poem was not recieved by so many in this way. Many were negative and act as if they couldn't comprehend its meaning. She stands or holds the hand of the great one but she is blazing her own path with the torch.

I hope all of America, and more and more of the world, will not only hear, but actually heed your words.
We need to work together as a world to create equality, opportunity and justice for all, and sensible economic and political systems that embody those values rather than ones that protect the privilege of special interest groups and corporations.
Politics needs to become based on empathy, intelligence, research and facts rather than partisan ideology, and power needs to be exercised in the interests of all, not just for a party, not just for a nation even, but for all life on Earth, now and always. If not now, when?

Thank you for articulating that which we barely hope for and dare think. This amazing young wonan ignited a spark in us which I hope will grow as I hope she will continue to shine brilliantly in the years to come. This was the culmination of this inauguration. We are grateful to president Biden for honoring her, and us with her words, presence and genious.

Before casting my vote though, I am curious as to her platform and policies. What plans does presidential candidate Gorman have for America in 2036?
I've been moved by music, movies, and math. This is the first poet that has moved me. She is perfect for the time we live in. She has a bright future. I wish her well. (and I'm a middle-age white male)

Through all of the 'Pomp and Circumstance', the Dignitaries, the Heads of State, the celebrity performances, the Oaths of Office, this young woman _shone like a star._ I had major goosebumps while she was speaking. She absolutely stole the show. I can't wait to share her speech with everyone I know. Well done Miss Amanda, well done!

When I heart "too confident", I heard "uppity". What an insult...this amazing young woman could teach those white men a whole lot of things or two!!!

She has good reason to be confident - she is brilliant (and not at all arrogant). You go, girl!!
I think the way she handled it by continuing to ask the man what he meant actually did teach that particular man something. He did realize what he said was wrong. This should be taught to all young children. She asked her questions respectfully, but she stood up for herself and didn't let the adult use his authority to bully her. It would all be in the tone of voice, firm, but not belligerent so you could be accused of disrespect.

After picking my jaw up from the floor & wiping away the tears at her inauguration poem, I was equally floored to learn she’d had a speech impediment! She is the WOW trifecta & reminded me why I love poetry so much.
I watched her speak at the program. It brought me to tears. This is the MEDIA, NEWS, SOCIAL NETWORKING, ROLE MODEL EXAMPLE for young people to be influenced by. I was so proud of her as a human being!!!! What an ASSET TO LIFE SHE IS!!!! Continue young woman. I Pray GODS WILL for your life in Jesus name Amen.
