The Man Engine

Powered by a Volvo wheel loader, the Man engine which is Britain's largest mechanical puppet, was built to commemorate 4000 years of mining in Cornwall. The original man engine was a lift system to assist miners ascending and descending into perilous mine shafts. The Man engine collapsed in 1919 killing 31 miners as heavy timbers cascaded down the shaft. The puppet tours around the UK and Europe with this video being shot at 2018's Hillhead quarry exhibition.
