. I was there 1966-1967. They would shake our billets every morning around 5 when they would take off with F-111's Since we were in the old WW2 barracks made of wood , they seemed to shake alot. When I was at the 3rd BCT before that, it was pretty good. The Barracks were fairly new and were made out of brick. Our mess hall was across the street also, and we would have to do PT before breakfast, then the monkey bars going into the mess hall. Would go to the Beer Hall on weekends at Doughboy Field when I was not on weekend pass or pulling KP. There use to be a Servicemans club called the Flamingo right at Doughboy Field were I would go to relax and rent out a guitar now and then to pick on. Good memories!!
Was at what we called Hotel Dix because back in 1971 it was an open post with no guards on entry points. Did my basic there in old condemned WW 2 wooden barracks that we were the last class to live in them. Had a lake behind them. For AIT was in a red brick nice three story building not far from main PX. Thanks for the memories.
I was stationed there then, but not in the Basic/AIT units. I was at the Personnel Control Facility (PCF) where the AWOLs were brought for out processing. Anyone remember what the unit patch was?

Did Basic there in 87. Gen. Rocco Negris was base commander. SSG. Thompson was best DI I ever met.

i used to watch the C-5s take off after chow they looked as if they were just hanging in the air on take off ...
