How To Make A Flower on a Lathe

- Making a Flower on a wood lathe using carbide turning tools can be a fun and rewarding woodworking project. First, select a suitable piece of wood and mount it securely onto the lathe. Using the carbide turning tools, shape the wood into the desired tulip shape, being careful to create smooth curves and crisp edges. Once the tulip is fully shaped, sand it down to a smooth finish, and then apply a sprit stain to enhance the natural beauty of the wood. After the stain has dried, apply Yorkshire Grit to the tulip to achieve a smooth and polished finish. Finally, finish the tulip with microcrystalline wax to protect the wood and give it a subtle shine. The end result will be a beautiful and unique wooden tulip that showcases the natural beauty of the wood, stained to your desired color and polished to a perfect shine.

Turned out really well Jamie. It's neat seeing the incorporation of different elements of the craft to produce a finished product - scroll sawing and turning in this case.

Hey Jamie - I'm sure this has been asked and answered previously, but why acrylic sanding sealer on the flower and cellulous sealer on the stem? Really, what's the difference, for someone fairly new to using sealers? Thanks so much, and beautiful job on the flower!
I was advised a long time ago that i should use Acrylic on Spirit based stains and Cellulose sealer on water based stains, i will be honest, now thinking about it, im not entirely sure it matters, again i am just dong what i was advised to do a long time ago by someone that does a lot more colouring than me.... hope this helps
Nice, have you tried to turn the inside of the flower?
Yes I have but honestly I prefer the sharper look of it left as it is, others may like the hollowed look tho
