Great result for just one hive😁. I love how you do the simple method without fancy machines, makes me feel like I could give it a go.

Well done guys. Wonderful job. I also used the crush and strain method and it worked fine. We only going to grow from this.

Hiya! I did something similar the first time I extracted honey from my hive. It works just fine, but it turns out to be a bit costly - to the bees. It takes the bees quite a lot of work/energy to create comb. You do your ladies a huge favor by using an extractor. With the extractor, you uncap the honeycomb and spin it to remove the honey. This leaves most of the comb intact. The resulting frames with comb are great to add to a hive when you want it to grow. So, I don't think there's ANY problem with this approach but if you can use an extractor, better. In our county (northern california), there are a couple local shops that rent extractors.
Anyhow, love your videos! Off to make some bacon.

This was so awesome. It's amazing that you only really need one or two successful hives to get great results. Amazing. Definitely something to consider in the future

You need a Honey Settling Tank it will make bottling the Honey a lot easier as it has a valve you can open. Also look for 5 gallon paint strainer it fits in the bucket once all your honey/wax is in the strainer you can hang it up over the settling tank and let it drain, Must admit the paint strainer was from other bee keepers from you tube. Looking forward to how you are going processing the wax,

      Thanks Maxine.
We have plans for some diy versions of those next year.
Also we are thinking we might not even bottle a good portion but keep it in a tapped glass container on our shelves!

i was thinking use the twist method, just need a stick and something to hang the cheesecloth/honey bag, and twist the stick

That was very satisfying to watch! I am pretty sure i saw someone talking about repurposing an old washing machine for this. They put the washing machine on it's back and put a handle on the motor bit that turns it around. Looking forward to seeing how how you approach it going forward. That was a lot of honey there and it keeps well.
I am currently trying to find a million ways to store 7 kgs of tomatoes that were ready when we got back from being away for a week! We already used 2kgs on cream of tomato soup, 1 kg autumn chutney, 1kg red onion chutney, 2kg just plain chopped tomatoes and this was all before we went away! We have never had a harvest like this and fell so lucky.
Today we used 1kg of our rhubarb to make rhubarb crumble ice cream. It's well nice and tastes a bit like an eton type mess and would taste nice as a cheesecake. The crumble bits are like ginger biscuit pieces. Looking forward to tasting it properly when it is frozen. It filled 2 ice cream tubs but the recipe said it would make just 1. I'm not complaining but running out of space in the freezer with home produce.

@@rachelhellyar1238 Yes we just made some recently and also pizza sauce. We also made ketchup, BBQ' sauce and sweet and sour sauce. We are currently at about 3kgs. I can't remember when we last bought and used a tin of tomatoes. Our tomatoes were early and already coming in July. We have be crazy lucky with tomatoes this year lol.

Dear Carl, Yes! You've made it - you are officially a producer of homestead honey! What a feeling!
I loved the enthusiasm in this video and as you said the teamwork between Jackie and yourself is fantastic!!!
One day I hope to bring the same joy of honey production to our homestead.
And there will be a lot more honey in your future I have no doubt.
So here's the question of the hour, does your honey have any particular flavour or is it just a bit of mixed bag?
I'm curious what the bees had for flowers in the area of your hive.
Here in Florida we get a few very different tasting honeys - Orange Blossom, Tuplelo, WildFlower are the main ones.
But you can really taste the difference. Excited to see your video on the processing of the wax!
    Best, Alex - NetZero Homestead

Well to me it tastes kinda floral, but other than that just like honey! I am far from a honey connoisseur though so perhaps over the years I will developer a more discerning palate.
