Thank you for sharing your experience. Gorgeous color. I changed the break fluid on my 1999 Boxster that I bought 1 year ago almost immediately. I have not changed the IMS bearing and will continue monitoring the oil regularly. So far, oil change has been the only expense (knock on wood). I recommend to use the Porsche leather conditioner as it leaves no residue. More expensive, but less product needed. Enjoy the car!

That is a nice car, looks well maintained. Be warned that this Boxster the 986 with the M96 engine can hide a lot of risk. I know you said you checked the oil for "glitter" to confirm the IMSB is not bad, but it can still fail without. Also this version the 986 (1997-2004) all have the M96 5 chain engine. You should have the Variocam chain tensioner pads replaced if your car has over 75,000.00. I have a 2001 Boxster S with 117,000 miles that was running great but both the IMSB and the pads were just waiting to fail. Also note that 2001 and later 986 all have the single row IMSB which are the higher risk of failure.
The hardtop option is nice to have for winter driving , how much do they cost new ? How many miles on this Boxster , and did you have it Pre- purchase inspected ?
It has 112k miles. We did not have it pre-purchase inspected but my husband did a pretty thorough check. In terms of the hardtop, I don’t know what they cost, but you may find a used one on eBay or Craigslist. This one came with the car.

Hello AL .... Lovely 02 boxster that hard top looks absolutely fantastic .... I used to own a 99 boxster base auto in silver and it was a great little sports car .... I paid $9,000 for mine put about a grand into it did all the work myself and sold it for $11,800.

Great Video, is the 986 the only Boxster that had an optional roof? I could not find if it was an option on the 987, 981 or 718?

I get around 20 MPG around town and 26 MPG on the highway. Hope that helps!
