When I was 10 I got a marble chess set from India. I love it so much and I always bring it with me wherever I move. The hard part is finding someone to play with lol.
It's part of demonstrating gratitude and honoring them. I think these are good qualities. We can learn a lot from our history and others. And it's what makes life interesting... far more than downloading app updates.
@@ChessHouse very true 👏🏻 no app can replace a fun of playing on a 22 inches high quality wooden chess board, or it could be marble too 😅 save trees 😁✌🏼
Same here, I also never thought about it 😳 luckily in still have my first chess board which I bought 15-20 years ago when I was in high school 😌 gotta take extra care of it from now on 😠
Glad you re-made this video! I love my Flex Pad board that I purchased from Chess House last year. I purchased the Olive colored one and paired it with natural and red colored HOS Reykjavik pieces. I store it in a homemade bag that my wife made for me over dozen years ago from old pair of blue jeans. The flex Pad board, a clock in a padded bag and the pieces which are stored in two of the chess house draw string bags, all go in the homemade denim bag. That set basically lives in my truck and goes where I go. Another option for a travel set is the HOS Marshall Library series plastic set. It pairs well with a 1.75" square board. I enjoy that set for travel too, and it fits on the small round coffee shop tables. However my board for it is vinyl also from CH. I wish Chess House had a green flex Pad board with 1.75" squares. I keep a set of Crisloid checkers with that mashal library set in a zip up bag, which I received supplies in when I had cataract surgery. If there was a 17" total 1.75 inch Flex Pad board, I could store the board in the bag too. Then I would have an excellent chess / checkers travel set. Of course it isn't magnetic. That leather chess set you showed seemed really excellent. I may have to put that on the Santa list.
Glad you like it! The Flex Pads are something new of course since that last video. While they aren't typically thought of in a travel chess category, as you've experienced, they are really suitable for a set that's portable. So they made it into this video! You have made quite the original combo out of this to pack along! Thanks for being a Chess House customer. Another size of Flex pad will be coming next year likely.
The pieces seem to crowd the squares on the milled leather set. Otherwise it’s a real nice set. I still think the best all around, bring it with you, play it anywhere set is the 10.5” Wegiel set which I notice you no longer feature in the Chess House video reviews.
The 10.5" Wegiel set is still a great set. It's just that the magnets are not quite as strong and the Milled Leather set is a better choice for portability. They do crowd each other, but they are easier to hold than a smaller piece might be. It's a matter of style.
Also when you have two bags for the club pieces, it randomizes who plays white and black, Especially if you don’t remember the piece’s color and what bag they belong😅
The only thing I find disappointing with travel sets is the quality, you don’t see the same exotic woods or weights in portable boards. I get the need for them to be magnetic, if they were heavier then the magnets would need to be stronger as well. It’s just a shame them most of them look and feel cheap.
I personally have a few travel sets myself. My personal favorite tournament size travel option is a jig saw chessboard. Came across this while shopping on an overseas chess vendor. The reason I like it so much as a travel option is that you can store a full size tournament board, set, and clock all inside a lunch bag or box. Due to lunch bags design for cold storage. They are padded to begin with. The kids love it when I bring this jig saw puzzle board to chess club. I personally prefer either a full size tournament or library size set and board for both play or analysis. You get smaller than that. It is a bit too tight and small for my liking.
Do you make travel chess sets for blind people? I’m blind and I’m thinking about learning how to play chess. Keep in mind I’m going to be 39 years old next month. I kind of want a marble board, but I don’t know if they make one for us blind people. Could you help me please? Thanks Z
4:07 - When I was playing snail mail correspondence chess many years ago, I had a huge stack of the twin cardboard flat sets on which I kept the positions of my games. After constant use, the cardboard pieces started to disintegrate, plus the slots in which the pieces fitted also started to disintegrate. i was seriously looking at replacing all of them with the chequebook style sets, but then I made the change to webserver play, which made having sets for storing the games irrelevant :-)

Marble sets are the nicest :) back in ancient times india and egypt and greece were huge on chess so they always made the best chess sets.
I really enjoy that you talk about the memories and handing things down your family line like that. Not a lot of people think like that anymore. 👍

I really like the design of the chess pieces your great grandfather made. The star symbols and the cross hatch-like markings are a tasteful touch.
Thank you for such a fantastic video showcasing quite the variety! The rosewood - 2:56 has got to be my favorite one.
Having a story attached to it thing.... Is just awesome 👍🏼
Cute story on capturing the queen 👑

I hit the like button and subscribed because you flipped the boards. Thank you and please do that with all chess boards
The ones without magnets take far more practice.
Great review. I think the 8" Play Keeper looks fantastic.👍
Thanks! And that PlayKeeper works great! It took a few revisions to get it just right.
I want to get it. But it's constantly sold out.b
Very beautiful sets, mostly those from 1:56 to 4:07. Any option of worldwide shipping?
Greetings from Bogotá, Colombia.
Great review buddy, good detail 👍
Hello Chess House. Can you please add the 4” Mini Magnetic Travel Chess Set when you make this video again?
Sure! That small one needs a little love
Thank you!
The pieces seem to crowd the squares on the milled leather set. Otherwise it’s a real nice set.

@@RaphaelNeff I find I don’t need the board to grip the pieces terribly hard. But each to his own. The Wegiel set is perfect.
I just buy the pocket sized set! I can't wait to have it!
Super! What do you think of it?
I saw something like it and I was amazed
The Miller leather’s magnets have very bad reviews. Has this changed?
So great sets, very beautyful.
The plastic magnetic chess set looks very cool, but who is white and black in the set, its kinda confusing since its sliver and gold
Also when you have two bags for the club pieces, it randomizes who plays white and black, Especially if you don’t remember the piece’s color and what bag they belong😅

I worry about the sound when you put the piece on the board, does it sound like metal? Or wood?
I ordered the '8" Magnetic Travel in Rosewood' and when it arrived, some pieces were missing. 🙁
Please reach out to us at contact@chesshouse.com and we'll make sure you get the needed pieces! =)
All of the tournament chess sets are pretty portable, correct? I may consider getting one. Great video! 👍
They are very portable yes with vinyl or flex pad boards.
love the flipping
Chess helps you see new possibilities.
Good set
I like how the girl moves the knight in the wrong spot at 1:11. Lol
i bought a magnetic chess set that you can fold and put the pieces inside of its really good

Thanks for sharing that idea. I have never seen that one until now. Just looked it up!
Nice Chess Sets 👏♟
Awesome .. You make me wanna juggle every chess board.. Lol
Some work better than others
Love the Barton homemade chess set.
The best chess sets are the ones handed down with a story.
Best chess set is the 100yo family antique hands down :D

To bad everything is out of stock when it comes to the 12" Rosewood. The set itself and extra queens.😢
