- Curtis Harper lost his heavyweight bout against Efe Ajagba in unusual fashion, leaving the ring as soon as the opening bell rang.

According to a PBC on-air reporter, Harper's early exit was a protest over money. Ajagba was duly ruled the winner by way of disqualification just one second into the first round.

Ok, after reading they cut his pay by 80% then respect.
😮😮😮😮
"What happened here was, on Aug. 12, Curtis was given a contract to fight Ajagba for $6,000. He specifically asked the person who gave him the contract whether the fight would be on TV and was told no. He signed the contract on Aug. 13 and sent it back that day. After that, he was treated like garbage. He and his wife didn't get their plane tickets until Aug. 22 [the day of their flight]. They flew into Minneapolis and waited at the airport for an hour and 45 minutes before they were picked up. Then, at the weigh-in on Thursday, Curtis learned that, contrary to what he'd been told before, his fight was going to be on TV. And he still hadn't been given a countersigned contract. So he wanted more money."
Harper struggles when asked to explain his motivation for leaving the ring on Aug. 24.
"I'm still upset," he says before adding, "I signed the contract, but they never gave me a signed contract back. They told me that there was no TV, and then it was a TV fight. I kept asking for the signed contract, and they wouldn't give it to me."
Asked when he decided that he wasn't going to fight, Harper answers, "I pretty much made up my mind in the dressing room, but I wasn't sure. Then, when we touched gloves and I saw one of the people who hadn't done right by me in the other corner, that was it."
The Last paragraph I was lmao thanks for that. And what happened to him is bad business.
Did the right move respect!!
He still sign a contract tho
@@MarioTransformer7001 which is why he could leave. There is a show up payment and as long as you are in the ring and the fight starts, you get paid
@anguyen0745 if he wasn't happy with what he was being paid, he didn't have to sign at all. He is a grown man, not a child.
Harper's footwork can't be denied
How is this not a top rated comment
got me laughing over here
Fantastic 😂
makin use of the footpath on the way out, great movement.🤣🤣🤣.What a big girls blouse like my irish dad would say to me as a kid
U killed it …with that right there😂
I have followed his career for a long time and he has no fear. A downright warrior. DEFINITELY MORE to the story.
They offered him $25,000 and on fight night they cut his check to $2,000.
@@ibmorkillmonger8934 wow ...
@@ibmorkillmonger8934 why
I don't blame him when they cut 80% of his pay that's dirty
@@drunkenmmamaster419 If the numbers above (25,000 to 2,000) are correct, they cut 92% off.
Literally one of the moments where the phrase "I don't get paid enough to do this" can be applied
Can’t blame him, walk in costs 20% of the original price, so he did just enough to earn it.
.
True
He wouldn’t have earned even that. The whole reason he walked was because he didn’t receive a contract signed by the other party.
Essentially there’s a high chance even if he’d gone through with the fight, that he wouldn’t have been paid.
Would have done the same thing. They cut his pay by 80% before he was going to walk in the ring!
Dion Isaiah why did they cut it
@@thenotorious8439 because they greedy, always do that to fighters and get away with it. They cheated him, THAT'S WHY. I'M GLAD IT HAD THE GUTS TO DO THAT
Except thats not the truth. You should brush up on how contracts work.
So, please tell what's the truth?
What has the opponent got anything to do with it? They stitched him up and he walked out. He lost to TKO.
They ripped him off his pay just before the match.
that true?
That true
They was going to give him $2000 to risk brain damage against a prospecting Olympian
he only got tickets to the fight
@@spacetimeinfinite7355 he was the fighter and the spectator
He wasn't scared to fight he just wanted fair pay.
bottle job bottle job bottle job.
This had to be a protest, pretty calculated. He got in ring gear, just to walk out. He is sending a message right there.
He just remembered that he forgot to unplug his hair dryer
lmao
Good for him. Wish media outlets reported it with context so people can make a fair judgement
At this point there was no context, no one knew he was going to do this. Although he thought about it in the dressing room, he only decided he would do it for sure moments before they touched gloves.
I was ready to come on here and bash the guy for being a baby about it and that he won't get the respect he desires now, but after hearing his pay got cut 80% the day of the fight, I say good on him! I'm surprised that's even legal for the promoter to do that, I would think they signed some sort of contract.
Same story as you bro
There isn't one shred of evidence his pay was actually cut...
@@harrod19 of course there's always that 1.... .. ....
But why did they cut it.
@@rookiebear1124 there is ZERO proof that they did
' he likes to finish his opponents in quick fashion '
"Don't blink!"
Treating Curtis like some Slave by cutting his pay 80% on fight day...no thanks
It comes a time when a man has to stand up and make a point.
fenris6051 Neo modern slavery, b1tch a^*^ n1gga.
@@mohammad0988 PBC is run by Al Haymon who just happens to be African American.
djrmarky that’s not true. Slavery in Africa existed before Islam. Islam actually abolished slavery and changed it. “Slavery” under Islam was not really slavery. You should go and read about it and come back.
This comments section is crazy..stick to the issue, just talk about boxing..cmon guys..
@Yas Iqbal After every word there is a swear? What type of hash are you smoking ? Evidence is obviously an alien concept.
And Britain / UK is a secular, multi cultural, multi ethnicity, diverse society. London has a Muslim mayor for a start , so which "Brits" are you referring to ?
"Come over."
"I can't, I'm about to fight."
"I'm home alone."
**Curtis walks off**
Curtis had that conversation with another dude though
They tried to play him with the money...
I could tell...
Saw this live .... Absolutely crazy ,
Pulse RESURRECTED whoa, what was it like actually witnessing this in person?
It was funny, the crowed got super loud and one guy was screaming "I WOULDN'T WANT TO FIGHT HIM EITHER!"
If they cut his pay by 80% on the day of the fight then he did the right thing.
Still better than Mayweather vs Pacquiao
I try not to throw shade with money but after analyzing all his career fights I just can't respect him ,he knew exactly when to fight someone when they lost confidence or momentum exct. I remember he lost to Castillo ,maidana and de la hoya could of gone either way but I also remember him delaying pac man scared af until he felt he was washed up also against cotto until margarito cheated with hand wraps an leaving cotto not the same than he took the smoke also that fight with Ortiz, berto McGregor
basically all his fights were wack af he never had an exciting fight
wooow mfs still thinking about floyd schooling manny.
nah bro I just saw someone comment may an pac an I gave an opinion that really don't matter but made you react to it thats all
You are the stupidest person ever. You have that stupidest person ever group, of maybe 3 billion people..yes you are 1 of them
What a fight!
😂😂
it was a great short fight, future hall of farmers right there...
Farmers
Fight of the year. Lol
Pay dispute
The commentator saying "Do not blink" makes it 10 times funnier
That awkward moment when you think the opening bell is just oven beeping from your home kitchen.
Apparently before the fight he was told that his fight would not be televised and was offered I believe $6000 for the fight. He signed the contract, and the day of the fight he found out it was televised but he was still getting paid for what he signed off on in the initial contract. So while everyone was banking in on the money, he was risking a lack of income but also potential brain damage, etc. The money wouldn’t have evened out for the risks he would be taking
he forgot to clear his web browser
🤣
Lol, I love how endearing women can be. That woman at the end was hilarious.
Pay the man! Harper certainly adds to Ajagba's hype. By walking out, he made Ajagba's marketing that much easier.
Still better fight than Ksi Logan paul
Walked out because of a contract dispute
Legend!
When you're just there so you dont get fined
This reminds me of a scene from the movie "Diggs Town"
Props
The Bruce Seldon technique has gone to another level. Outstanding
Bro really pulled up a Goku and was like "I give up. My son will handle this."
What?
Context is key and once you have it you, well at least I, can't blame him.
Wow. Best fight Ever..
He walked out, like he forgot to turn the stove off 😁
As a Harper myself, I can confirm we have a proud history of just immediately giving up
best fight in boxing history
That was me senior year of hs after firs period lmao
😂😂😂
Imagine buying tickets to watch a fight an yo favorite boxer just walks out the ring👽
You cant blame.him. if you were arranged to receive this much. then you will know before the bell that 75% are gone for no reason. What would you do???
walk off
When you remember your mom told you to take the chicken out of the freezer
Smart man,
nicely played.
I blinked 😂😂😂😂
Braver than me. I never would have entered the ring.
0:35 A guy in a Young Bucks shirt is too sweet!
This is J. Cole leaving the ring against Kendrick Lamar 🤣🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
He heading home to watch wrestlemania
Lady at :29 climbing those stairs behind him is his third grade teacher and saying “ Curtis! Get back here young man!” Lol
Good protest. 👍
Managers and promoters should pay him his dues.
He probably did not want to miss the next episode of The Kardashians and went home.
Wow! That can't be an easy decision to make to walk out there, make a statement and walk all the back and out of the main stage area. Saw the video that was a long walk SMH. Cut his salary by 80% and he probably wasn't making a lot to begin with knowing there was an 99% chance he was going to get pounded out.
Me when i go up against Steve in Smash Ultimate
He did it to protest his pay. He thinks he isn't getting paid enough
Apparently they told him they were cutting his pay by some large amount just before the fight.
He wasn't getting paid enough and I'm sure if your job cut your paycheck down 80% you would walk away too
Well now he'll never get paid again...
You would take the fight at 2,000$? Would u risk getting brain damage (these are heavy weights) for 2,000$? He was initially going to make over 20,000 but that changed. Dont forget after making those 2,000 you might end up paying some medical fees after tje fight.....u also got to pay ur manager, trainer, uncle sam etc.......
They offered him $25k and on that night they cut to $2k
OK so the before five stare down sometimes works
I’m weak 😂😂😂😂
i see a pattern here
Good luck to him
That guy said im not dying im ghost
Is it possible? Isn't there supposed to be a contract signed????
Imagine paying for that match f
lmao
Ah the old left my phone in car 🚗
Uvalde Police Department when they saw there was an active shooter
Smart man
WTF!!!!!
Ref malfunctioned lol. The guy on commentary knew it would happen look at him taking vid on his phone. Bad camera timing Elluminati.
OMG LOLOL..... smart man.
He had to take the catwalk back to the locker room
@South Bay 408 Catwalk queen back to his locker lol like that, thats a belter, even my razor sharp wit couldnt think that one up,well done🤣☝
Dillon Danis boutta do this. 😭😭
LoL 😂 the moment Harper remembered Efe had one death I mean one body to his name out of the 5 knock out wins .. 🙃😬🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🙆🤦🙋
Well how do yall know his pay was cut
Hey, im in that video. At 0:18, I am the fat guy in the turquoise shirt or the righ hand side of the screen. Last night at The Armory in Minneapolis. Section 1 Row 2 Seat 1.
Sick shirt, bro
This was so weird . Lol
He had the runs
Why
Reminds me of Deadshot said in the terrible Suicide Squad movie no money no honey.
Its the art of fighting, without fighting...(bruce lee)
😀
Does one person have any PROOF about this "80% pay" excuse??
harrod19 fox sports
So who won?
Nate Robinson should’ve taken tips
Curtis like I'll find another way to make money
wasnt his pay settled before the fight???
Still more action than Ngannou vs Lewis
Don't blink.. wait what?
s...... guys im going home!
Who told him he could box cause that boy can’t fight to save his own life 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He was paid 6000$ dollars for a round, WTF, it's televised and all over the internet streaming and thats the money he is gonna get paid 😳😳
Bathroom break?
Umm.... “diggstown” anyone??
He forgot to pick George up from school.
This brings back bad memories of spending $50 to watch Andrew Golota fight Mike Tyson. Golota left the ring after 2 rounds.
I'M GLAD HARPER DID THAT! THESE GREEDY PROMOTERS/NETWORKS DON'T SHOW THESE VETERAN ATHLETES ANY RESPECT, THEY PROBABLY PROMISE HIM A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MONEY THEN WHEN IT'S TIME TO SIGN THE CONTRACT "OH SORRY, WE WANT TO PAY U THIS AMOUNT". I'M GLAD HE HAD THE GUTS TO DO THIS! STOP TRYING TO CHEAT THESE ATHLETES! HARPER JUST EXPOSED THIS PROMOTION & NETWORK
Он просто послушался Абеля Санчеса
Follow the money.
chael sonnen brought me here, curtis did the right thing...
The promoters not only deceived him giving him less money and lying. They were also watching comfortably in their seats and smiling from the fact that they’re earning so much money from deceiving this poor dude while eating hotdogs or drinking soda. Yea I wouldn’t just walk out the ring, I would knock those promoters to the ground
