Paperweight is an advertisement piece from a Boston newspaper. Usually used on newspaper stands to keep them from blowing away. It was typically a metal bar with an advertisement but could also be a glass paperweight.
"Boston newspapers seem to have vied for attention most competitively. The Boston American chose for its weight to feature Mutt and Jeff, two popular cartoon characters created by Bud Fisher and running daily in the American."
