Dan is a British national treasure how this song is not the theme of a James Bond movie and soundtrack I will never know away from today that sounds like Bond!
I would talk about how great Dan's work is and spread the word if I was a big youtuber so many people would discover this genius. But here I am, with my poor subs count 😭
Saw you LIVE when you came to Minneapolis, Minnesota and you are extremely talented! I'm so lucky to have witnessed your angel-kissed voice. Never stop
So I kind of have an idea of what the meaning of this song is. There's the literal meaning, as in the story that is being told here, and then there's the deeper meaning behind the song. *I hit the ground running,* *Running away from sin,* This probably means he's done something wrong in his life, and he's obviously trying to avoid the consequences for them in a spiritual or physical sense. *She stole my heart faster,* *Than the bullet that I put in him,* This is likely referring to his sin. He may have literally shot somebody, or perhaps he stole this woman away from somebody, and that caused the other man emotional pain. (These lines are kind of hard for me to hear properly, just by the way he's saying it. Sorry if they seem inaccurate.) *She grabbed the case,* *I grabbed her waist,* *She taught me to swim,* *and how to steal away* This woman the narrator's taken an interest in is running with him. The case being her belongings, him grabbing her waist being them running off together, her teaching him to swim being her teaching him how to live his life, perhaps in an illegitimate way, be it through swindling, thievery, etc. *My hands are shaking,* *My knees are weak,* *The rush I crave,* *For long I've seek,* He enjoys this way of life with her, living his life to the extreme and seeing the world in a whole other way than before. He may have been bored with the way life was going for him before, which is understandable as day-to-day life for some people can being boring and monotonous. This stanza I'll only talk about twice. *Away, away from today,* This ties in with the previous lines, meaning he seeks a life different than the one he currently lives. *I open my eyes and roll to my side,* *To the surprise of the morning sun,* The girl he ran with has left him. *She took to the road,* *Left me alone,* *Before the heartbeat had begun,* Another way to portray the previous meaning. She left without a word, no warning and only when things had begun. *I drove through the night,* *I chased her to light,* *The hunt lasted days but I thought I lost my way,* *But there she lay,* Clearly, he spent a good amount of time looking for her, but soon found her, perhaps while she was sleeping. *But my hands are stained,* *My tears are black,* *Watch me as I turn my back and go away,* Now that he's found her, he's thought about the things he's done. His hands are stained, perhaps in a somewhat more literal sense if he'd killed somebody for her, or perhaps on a conceptual level. He's done bad things for her, and he feels stained by those things. His tears are black, meaning he may feel evil in some way. As he turns his back, he turns it on her and his past, a change in his ways. Him going away is probably the most literal part of this song, as he walks away from this girl as he realises he disliked what he had done for her. *Away, away from today,* This ties into the ending of the video, as he's been running from what his days had become. The second Dan in the final shot is meant to represent his old self, his past, confronting him, and he realises he no longer can run away from it. It's time to return to what he had done before, or perhaps to face the consequences of his newer actions. This was just a super fun little thing for me to write up. Creative Writing has me analyzing song lyrics quite a bit, and their deeper meaning. If you disagree with the meaning, that's okay! I'd love to hear your opinions on it, and your interpretations!
Good job but it’s about running away from problems in your life like getting away with problems u had the thing about running away cause he did something bad that can fit too. And this is what Dan Croll said himself
