  • In this video I share my honest review on Bilstein B16 coilovers on my BMW F80 M3. In my opinion, this is the BEST coilovers for F80 M3.
    I wanted to give my honest review on the Bilstein B16 Coilovers that I installed a few months ago but I wanted to give it some time before I did. After a few thousand miles on the suspension, I wanted to make this video and explain my thought process on why I went from the KW HAS kit to the Bilstein B16 (PSS10) Coilovers.

    I experienced the same EDC-less function with the KW HAS at max drop “but” this was due to it being maxed to a height it was never intended to ride at. Reminded me of imports modded back in the 90s, floating, swaying, bouncy. With the KW HAS Once I added “preload” I literally gained minimal height but gained back my EDC functions. A LOT of F8x owners are lowering the KW or MPE HAS to the lowest setting without playing with proper preload. A properly dialed in suspension setup and proper alignment will make a car handle like night and day

    • @TheDailyDriven
      @TheDailyDriven  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Frank that is the absolute truth. There pretty much wasn't any preload after lowering the front to the max. Astheicly it looked amazing but I definitely the ride quality suffered. Great info, because a lot of F8x owners don't even factor that in when deciding what suspension to get, like myself lol.

      @TheDailyDriven  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to live in NYC and the roads up there were pretty horrible. maybe you can look into a cup kit that raises your car up 2 inches with the push of a button and you can still have upgraded suspension.

    After 8 months on the B16, would have done anything differently? How is NVH compared to stock and the HAS kit? Would you say there more or less comfort vs. performance? Thanks 🙏 great videos. Keep doing F80 content. You should have like more than 10K subscribers 😎

    • @TheDailyDriven
      @TheDailyDriven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After 8 months with the kit, I am leaning towards looking at the KW DDC eventually. I sat in a buddy of mine that has the KW DDC and it rides so much comfortable. I believe it has to do with the difference between them on how low each go. The KW DDC have the ability to go lower than the B16 and allow it to have a better rebound.
      So this black friday, Ill be on the look out for a set of KW DDC (has the edc module). Overall I still enjoy the B16 10x times over the KW HAS KIT.
      I appreciate you checking out the video and hopefully, i can reach 10K subs!

      The ride wasn't bad before the max drop.But if you're looking for everyday use its not bad.

      For what you're looking for, I'd look into Ohlins Road and Trade coilovers. The shop I go to installs them all the time for track cars and those cars are just slightly lower than stock to improve on handling and bodyroll. Unfortunately my channel is geared towards lowering aesthetics.

    Does any modifications to the suspension void warranty? My ZCP front ride height has a noticeable gap.

    • @TheDailyDriven
      @TheDailyDriven  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, the only portion I can see it void is anything related to the vehicle's suspension. Like axles, shocks if you're going lowering springs and ect. The dealer can argue that lowering the car made ____ fail and therefore not covered. When it comes to your engine, it shouldn't void it since the suspension doesn't affect the components of the engine. But before you mod, always check with a professional. Hope that helps.

    Did you use GC camber plates with the B16? If so, did you successfully transfer the rubber spring mount that sits between the top hat and the spring?

    • @TheDailyDriven
      @TheDailyDriven  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, ended up going with GC camber plates. I'll have to check with the shop if they did. What would be the issue if they didn't?

    • @hamann8070
      @hamann8070 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheDailyDriven That is what I am trying to figure out. Per the Bilstein instructions, you need to transfer over the OEM rubber hat so it sits between the top hat and the spring. You can check this yourself if you lift up the front end of your car. If the spring is just sitting near the top of the GC camber plate with no rubber in between, then this rubber wasn't transferred over. My rubber piece did not fit on the GC camber plate top hat so it wasn't used. Vorshlag has a different design so it would fit with their kit. Without the rubber piece, the spring freely moves without load on the car since there is no rubber piece in between the top hat and the spring. I can send you a picture of what I am talking about if you send me your email.

    • @hamann8070
      @hamann8070 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheDailyDriven Btw, the issue here is metal on metal contact. Since there is no rubber in between, the GC top hat (metal) is making direct contact with the spring (also metal). So the issue is 1) Added harshness 2) Potentially damaging the GC camber plate/top hat during a hard impact 3) Potentially damaging the spring, but this is doubtful since I am sure the spring isn't the weak point.

    • @TheDailyDriven
      @TheDailyDriven  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hamann8070 Actually the way you just described it, the tech did complain on how much of a pain it was to make fit. He did use the OEM, i remember him trying the one it came with and we were puzzled on why it didnt fit. The way the GC plate fit with the OEM rubber hat is pretty horrible. Just looks out of place.
