My husband was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and high BP. We follow a 50/50 rule. 50 percent veggies on every plate, and 50 percent lean meats or alternate protein. His doctor is proud of him, and thinks he will reverse the diagnosis in the year. We do occasional treats but in small portions. The treat last night was a few tortilla chips and salsa. It is hard, but without support I think it would be impossible.

How can his doctor reverse the diagnosis?
Diabetes type 2 is for life. It will never go away.
It can only be halted, which is not enough to reverse a diagnosis.

    • @Scorpy666

To be more exact: We talk of remission and not a cure because it isn't permanent. The beta cells have been damaged and the underlying genetic factors contributing to the person's susceptibility to diabetes remain intact. Over time the disease process reasserts itself and continued destruction of the beta cells ensues.

Oats are one of the most powerful LDL cholesterol lowering foods and cinnamon is a great blood sugar lowering supplement. Casia cinnamon works (sweeter) but real cinnamon (smells spicier) works best. Avocado is also a great blood sugar lowerer.
Regular exercise is good. Watch the blood pressure regularly too and if you detect any strange signs; dizzy or chest pains etc, then get a scan.
      God Bless

well to be fair, she is right tbh..........if you eat "healthy", your body will naturallt shed the weight to where it should be
      *cut the processed crap
*cut the very unhealthy stuff out (junk food)
      *ect
if you basically eat as "organic" as you can, you shouldnt have any issues losing weight...........the thing is if like let's say 80-90% of the time or something you eat "healthy", there's no reason you cant eat idk a doughnut or 2 or something on the side every once in a while
      -------------------------
*Meanwhile, something like McDonald's every once in a while is still super unhealthy (processed to the max + super unhealthy ingredients - shouldnt every basically eat stuff like that)
*same with pop (pop is a better toilet cleaner than most cleaning products on the market..........imagine what that does to your insides?)
      ------------------------
so yea, i agree with what she says where she should eat doughnuts sometimes (esp if she is being grouchy all the time because she's is craving something)..........but i also get where she's coming from not wanting to eat it at all (but that's the #1 worst ***WRONG***** advice from most diets that ends up making people quit because they get to a point where they're either so hungry they cant take it anymore, or so miserable eating stuff they dont like)

Greek yogurt is a really good alternative to sour cream for alot of things. Especially when you make a dip. I use Greek yogurt, brown gravy mix, and dehydrated onions to make a mock french onion dip for things that's a tiny bit healthier than regular dip. It tastes a bit richer in my opinion. I dunno if greek yoghurt is different in the USA but where I live it tastes different and has a different consistency as well. To compare.. Greek yoghurt here tastes slightly sweet and the consistency is super thick yet creamy while on the other hand sour cream is way lighter, has a watery substance along with it and tastes slightly bitter but almost neutral. In terms of similarity in taste it's worlds apart unless you only use it for mixing it in a sauce or something. Because of that the greek yoghurt talk in the video really confused me xD

@@shaydawn7376 Its really good plus you can adjust it to your own taste so if you like it a bit more mild or stronger you can get it exactly how you want it. You can even add onion or garlic powder for an added flavor boost if you want. Or another way is to use the brown gravy mix and some dehydrated vegetables for like soup mixes. You have to let it set for about an hour that way the veggies get a bit softer but it's another good dip. You could also rehydrate the dried veggie mix in a few tablespoons of hot water for a few minutes then drain and add to the mix too if yours have some harder things like peas or corn.

A balanced way to include all foods might look like: put the donut on a plate with some strawberries and plain Greek yogurt (protein + fiber+ food you might binge = living with no off limits food)

If i eat a cookie, chocolate bar or donut here and there makes it easier to not overeat on them if i always say no.
Dieting is still mostly psychological !
Now almost 2 years in, i still have good disciplined weeks and also bad weeks.
but i taught myself to not fixate on a monthly goal anymore. The only rule is to not gain any except muscle mass.

A better option is to find or make healthier alternatives to the junk food items. The obsessive cravings are there because you continue to have the item that you created well worn paths in your brain to think about it. Once you're down out of the danger zone of morbid obesity you can start adding in some of those unhealthy items sparsely so your brain doesn't go back to addicted mode. It's really no different for your brain than any other addiction. Ppl who quit heroin can't do a little bit as part of a balanced substance diet, because it's just keeping that path established in their brain to continue to crave it. The brunette in this series is proof of this, as she already had gastric bypass but still eats junk food so she's still morbidly obese.

But I've found that if I have the thing in question, let's say a chocolate bar for example, in the fridge, I can let it be there for a very long time without touching it. Kinda like it's comforting to me just to know that I have it, and I'll go and snack on tomatoes instead, compared to me having a small freak out because I don't have a chocolate bar laying in the fridge. If that makes sense.

Nutrition is such a tough subject to generalize because companies just want more customers which affects even what is recommended to consumers. At the end of the day, everyone's needs are slightly different when it comes to food so relying on just calorie intake or the food pyramid isn't enough. Work on figuring out what gets you the results you want in terms of health and focus on that!

The commercials mentioned in the video are a good example of this problem of advertising guiding nutrition.

Good luck with your diet! I’m skinny, always been. I’ve recently dieted to 130 now from my highest at 160. I bet a nutritionist would give me a medal for how good my diet is now. I also have a digestive disorder that made me intolerant to gluten, eggs, nuts (I could go on forever), so I know what it’s like to restrict food groups entirely out of necessity. I don’t cheat EVER on it. It was one of the hardest things emotionally to deal with. Even with all this, eating at 1500cal on the new diet made me hungry at a VERY high frequency... All this being said, I can only imagine how hard it would be to deal with the hunger and food restrictions at the same time at a higher weight, probably getting even hungrier than I do. I think weight gain is a genetic problem in my family, too. We are way too efficient at getting fat 😂

I literally looked to my sister after being sober for over two years, asked her if she would be mad at me if I did anything, and she told me no. And I went INSANE back to 6 feet under. She's an alcoholic in denial, so she had alcohol in my face all of the time. She smoked weed all of the time in my face, knowing I was in a treatment program. I'm not saying I couldn't have walked away, and I did a few times, but I couldn't prevent her from following me. And a lot of that time, I was living WITH her. Then there would be the family getting ahold of me with the excuses for her and damning me for trying to stay away . . . Addiction is no joke. And her sister is absolutely not being a support. Just like mine wasn't.

You're part of the problem with humanity in general if you think this small snippet of my life encompasses the entirety of it. Grow up and realize you're not allowed to make snap judgement on anyone from a single comment on a TH-cam video. My story is definitely longer than this, and I'm glad for you that you have a good family. Not everyone has it that way.

During the early overweight years when I wanted to lose weight, I could decide to only have ice cream cone once a year, like on a hot summer day, and not eat french fries for six months. Sugar and bread have been a mighty opponents, so I skip the entire bakery section of the grocery store.I love the taste of a glazed doughnut more than life itself, but I don’t drive through Dunkin Donuts. I did have 2 doughnuts last year when I was craving them. If no one buys the dozen doughnuts and you just eat food - regular food, you won’t deal with blood sugar lows which make you able to eat all the bread and all the sugar before you even know what happened.
I think if I gave in to all the doughnuts, ice cream, white breads, Entemenns coffee cakes, and pies every week, I’d be supersize, too. I’m overweight now but I’ve never been huge, i mean I’ve never had life-threatening consequences of my diet.

1200-1500 calories? I feel like thats way too hard for someone who is used to eating a lot. I've been eating 2000 calories a day and I've lost 20lbs in 3 months.

I'd say 1500-1800 would be a healthy intake for those women. 1200 is the absolute lowest healthy intake for a woman and typically applies to very petite women. Im 5'1 and if i werent as physically active as i am id prob be in that range but currently with my activity level 1400-1500 is where im at. It's actually not that difficult as green veggies are EXTREMELY filling and can be eaten in large amounts for very little caloric intake. I actually struggled to meet my caloric needs in the beginning of my clean eating change and was eating way under bc I was so full from veggies. Protein increase also gives a feeling of fullness as well. If they were eating healthy foods and healthy macros I don't think they'd struggle due to hunger pains it's more a mental thing at that point as going from highly processed food to non processed is difficult the first few weeks. After cutting processed foods high added sugars actually made me sick due to being too sweet. Your taste buds change and actually appreciate the flavors of natural foods.

A female body requires less energy than a male body due to less muscle mass and a shorter average height. The female body also converts excess energy intake as fat more readily. I'm a 5'9" guy and I have to stick to 1700 cal/day to stay in the upper healthy range of optimal BMI (155lbs). Being sedentary also contributes to my lower intake allowance, sitting in an office instead of walking around all day.

It took so much effort to make that breakfast for dinner spread and they could have done a fun pretty spread of fresh fruit and an egg scramble with veggies. Maybe whole grain toast? You make the donuts and pancakes a sometimes food and do a small amount.
    Also I hear you on having to eat below the "recommended" calories. My 30s hit my metabolism like a freight train so now my maintenance calories are 1200 and if I want to actively lose weight I need to aim for 800-1k. Can't wait til it's safe to hit the gym again working out at home without machines is so hard. ;o;

The food pyramid changed alot from the great depression, bread and butter were so high on the list because of the high calories and it was cost effective for poor families once society started to prosper again and dietitians learned more about health it's evolved constantly from then to now and is still ever changing as we learn, it's also no longer a pyramid because it was decided that was a flawed idea in general. There were also points in the food pyramid history where it was used as propaganda to benefit the dairy industry, it's a very interesting history.
