Stacia, you hit the jackpot with Casablanca, it is one of my favorite movies of all time and I am a huge Humphrey Bogart fan. I think my favorite line in the movie is something Bogart snuck past the censors talking about Captain Renault. When he says that he must be getting broad-minded referring to a possible homosexual relationship which is absolutely hilarious! 💯 I still wonder to this day how he did it! Great job sis, you are amazing and don't ever change!
Hi Stacia ! This film is quite rightly considered a masterpiece. I have never & would not watch a colorized version of this or It's A Wonderful Life. I'm glad that back in the day studio's weren't as inclined to make sequels. This stands on its own as one of the greatest movies ever made. Take Care 😊
Forgot to mention that I have Casablanca on dvd and have thoroughly enjoyed it for many years. It's a Bogart classic, but my favorite Bogart films are the 4 he made with Lauren Bacall, especially The Big Sleep with Bogart as private detective Philip Marlowe. The dialogue between Bogart & Bacall (and the other women in the film) is amazingly erotic considering it's a 1940s film. Thanks for creating this forum for us film fans.
Its my favorite movie. It has something for everyone not just romance. Humor via capt renaud. War relevant to what was going on. Le Marseilles that woman crying singing the anthem. I love this movie. Peter lorre "reek help me reek". Play it sam you played it for her play it for me.
@staciaonmovies thanks! I wish they would show these movies at movie theaters. I saw its a wonderful life at one several years ago. It was like stepping into a time machine.
While it is ranked, as you said, among the greatest films, especially romantic ones, Casablanca is also considered one of The best spy films. In Leonard Rubinstein's 1979 book, The Great Spy Films, Rubinstein does great anaylsis of it during a chapter on romantic spy films. In 2009, a one-off magazine entitled The 100 Greatest Spy Films ranked it at #46. Thanks for your review and thorough background info. Besides being a film fan, I'm also a soundtrack collector and have the Max Steiner Casablanca score which includes the songs also. It was released in 1997 on the Rhino label. Take care.

Two times in my life have I watched a movie and came away feeling like I developed a huge crush on the female lead. Kate Winslet in Titanic and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca.
Casablanca is a great movie and it's my favorite. But altho it has a lot of romance in it, I wouldnt call it a romance movie. It's really a story about the virtues of noble action and self-sacrifice for a higher cause. Rick sacrificing his great love for the benefit of the great freedom fighter Laszlo, Ilsa sacrificing her devotion and duty to Laszlo to escape w Rick, Laszlo tirelessly risking his life every day fighting for the free world, Renault sacrificing his job as police chief to protect Rick. Remember, this movie was made during the early years of WW2 when the outcome of the war was still very much in doubt. Of all of the great lines in the film, Laszlo's line to Rick at the end "Welcome back to the fight. This time I know our side will win" is the one that best describes what this movie is really about. If you're so inclined, this movie is something to believe in. As long as there are people like Richard Blaine in the world, humanity has hope. BTW, I first saw this movie in an actual theater and the audience applauded loudly at Rick's first appearance as well as Ilsa and Laszlo's first appearance. I didnt find out why until I saw the rest of the movie.
This film and Shakespeare in Love are both great movies. The romance is the least interesting part in both movies. I love the amazing cast of actors. The interesting characters. My favorite romance is between Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn characters in Roman Holiday.
Love this! Great synopsis Stacia! 😊. Wait, I spy a doggy? Lol. 🐶🐾
It’s Max!

I agree. Although I have seen the colorized version of It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s weird looking and distracting.

There is nothing like a Bogart & Bacall pairing. Thank you so much for your kind words.
