      Grew for 5 years, fortunately only lost a few oz here and there to the mold curse
      Heck had a auto strain I was growing that molded while finishing up 😭
      Haven't grown baccy yet so that's gonna be a journey

    Your vids are great. Curious to see how native techniques/approaches may differ or not. I’m growing mine for ceremonial use, so happy you share so much 💜

    Ever use a humidity pack like a Boveda during the jar aging process? They maintain the RH at a fixed percentage (65% or 70% etc) by adding or removing moisture as needed. Planning my first grow this year and want to cure/age the tobacco using the simplest methods as possible. I do not mind having to wait a year or more if I have to. Enjoyed all your videos!

      They srip flavor and smell, used em for a few years then noticed my batches (cannabis) were way more potent then the same product with boveda packs.

    Remember light getting into a moist jar-bag without air flow is a breading ground for mould unless your airing it twice a day, dark cool place after fermentation is the way

    Howdy S'PC! I kicked smoking years ago. I'm thinking barter, so this year I'm going to try my hand at it. Of course a pipe full wouldn't be out of the question heh heh! They say if you can grow tomaters, and I can grow the snot out of 'em, then you can grow tobacco. It's rest that's a mystery. Can't thank you enough for your expertise. I love an experiment! You the man!

    A fella got out his hookah to smoke traditional with us and I noted back then that he watered it briefly to reconstitute it to use it, so it burned correctly, so he was keeping it drier than smokable. I didn't see where but I think in a bag.

    Small amounts of standard mould on tobacco is normal an safe... As lo Ng as u catch it early.....dry It and spank it to send the mould airborne outside an get back to fermenting..... a serious outbreak u can dump...but a ltl mould is normal an safe as long as it ain't weird colours an smells Like death lol

      I can attest to this because i just bought a (moldy) tobacco leaf to roll my weed in, i took it out the bag and rubbed some of it off (haha😂) checked back today and it was pretty much all gone. Rubbed a little vodka on it just to be safe

    Finding mold sucks. Thanks for the vid. Luckily I leave it to you professionals to prepare the baccy...I prefer to buy it tinned, bagged or jarred already. 😉 Hope you are well! Have a great week!

    Have you ever tried using vacuum sealed bags (like a Foodsaver) for long term storage once you reach an acceptable humidity level? I was also wondering if using a sous vide cooker on a vacuum-sealed bag of tobacco to gently caramelize the sugars and develop flavors might be interesting, I'll have to investigate, I'm sure other people have tried this already.

    Pull it out of the jar .. let it dry right out, dust off the mold .. its still good if you caught it early enough

    So- you make damn sure your humidity is under 70 before sealing your jars for ages?

  • @hanneslindstrom4665
    @hanneslindstrom4665 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So.. i can choose between jar or plastic bag in very beginning? The key is keep humidy at 60-70% to avoid mold? No matter is it in jar or bag? Or do i have to do first plasticbag thing and then move it to jars?
    Thanks for the video and advices. You are doing great!

    Should i de-stem the leaves before storing?

  • @Ellis307
    @Ellis307 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can I just ask - is this long term storage or at least it’s preparation the same as fermentation? It seems like this word gets thrown around a lot but no novices (like myself) have a clear idea of when t happens and what it looks like

  • @arnaldo35

    Thanks for the vid and good advice. Just a quick question. I'm assuming the humidity would vary depending on the ambient temperature. So at what temp should it be at 65% humidity in the jars?

  • @minime8048
    @minime8048 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Try storing in a cardboard box or a plastic tote.. kept some of my leaves in there for 3-4 years even .. but to tell you the truth .. i dont think they taste any better .. now a days i smoke mine within 10 days of the leaves drying right out , because i use a different fermenting process. The taste , smell ,is just as good, if not better as the aged stuff 🤗

    • @Cee-lp2dm
      @Cee-lp2dm 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@NM-pl1ivMost likely he is stoving the tabbaco, you need heat for fermentation to happen faster, when kept at normal temps and humidity levels kept stabled at between 55-63% for long time is called aging. Aging you can say is an extremely slow fermentation.

    So to properly make the tobacco fermentation process successful.. all I have to do is cure it then put in a jar for 6 months or more with humidity below 70? That’s it or am I missing something? Thanks

    • @smokinpipechannel9602
      @smokinpipechannel9602  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as it's color cured so it's not green, yes! It'll gas off a lot of ammonia if you give it a smell occasionally, you'll notice that.

    • @ohi8ofan
      @ohi8ofan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@smokinpipechannel9602 Thanks for your help on this. Two other questions. Why cure tobacco in a shed? Is it the heat the humidity levels? Secondly, fermenting tobacco in a jar, does simply keeping it in a jar tend to keep the humidity at the right level? Or would I need a humidifier?

    • @smokinpipechannel9602
      @smokinpipechannel9602  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I cure mine in a warm dry room indoors. Jar or plastic bag stops humid air getting in and the smell amount of humidity from escaping.

    Could H2O2 be used as a preservative? It kills mold, bacteria & yeast spores even at very low concentrations 0.1-0.3% one could dilute some 3% hydrogen peroxide from the pharmacy with water and moisten the leaves with it before canning them? Advantage of H2O2 is, it turns into oxygen and water so there is no unwanted additives.

    • @bromisovalum8417
      @bromisovalum8417 ปีที่แล้ว

      H2O2 does react with nicotine, but according to a paper I've read it turns into cotinine quantitatively. Cotinine retains all positive effects of nicotine (nootropic, antidepressant) whilst being much less toxic. Pharma industry even once considered marketing cotinine as an antidepressant.
