Ah, happy memories of trying to make a serviceable unit from three worn out ones. That's proper tinkering, and successful to boot, things are looking up Mr H.
Its better than watching an old suspense film. Will he get it back together ,will it work ! At least our hero is battling on against all adversity.Great stuff Ian.
Calendar ordered. My Ellieversary hoody has been keeping me nice and warm whilst attending to my veg in the garden by the way. I'm seriously impressed with the quality of materials used. Hats off to whoever supplies you with your gear. It's top notch.
Ahhh, the unmistakable sound of rain on a 2CV roof. Takes me right back. Unfortunately, still no success in finding a 2CV to renovate or a unit to work in. We have two fab units we use to store motorcycles, spares and othe bits and bobs but there's no access for cars 😔 The search will continue though as I really miss my 2CVs. I particularly loved my yellow one 💕
Thats brilliant progress on Elly, well done Ian. My best female friend asked today if I'd ordered my calendar yet and said she's get it as part of my Xmas box so thats me all sorted 👍
The kettle prominently in the picture, then you first expect a good cup of tea Ian! For the parking position of the wipers, unscrew the cover from the gearbox, then you will probably see a lot of grease on the raceways of the contacts, remove this grease and lubricate it with petroleum jelly, then the problem should be solved, unless Citroen has a deviating construction.
Success! That's what you need, once a week (at least). Recently I did repair the rear wiper of my Citroën C1 - slowly but successfully. That's wellness...
I think a HubNut calendar, which is imperfect, and would need a little tinkering, to get back to fully restored operation, is quite frankly a collectors piece and future family heirloom!
"Let's see how badly this goes", comments such as that make your videos even more entertaining than they already are. Edit: just saw the whole video, congratulations Ian, really nice wiper action going on there
A bright glean has caught the wipers of the 2CV, Oh but this is not the beginning of the end as e all know who said this. A remarkable win! more hammer and tong videos Ian - you are on a roll. Personally I want to see the Fox fully sorted and used as your workhorse to support the rest of the fleet.
I bet there's been many mechanics with a picture of a lovely pin up called Diane above their work bench. Hubnut's approach is a little different but equally endearing
Interesting! I had exactly the same problem with my 2cv wipers: the linkage would go over centre. I never did get around to fixing it. I bet the linkage was worn in just the same way.
Congratulations Ian !!!!! A job almost well done 😉, but I think we’re call it a 90% win 👍🏻 and what a shock ? You having correct size Cir clips and knowing where you left them in your storage system, always a first time for everything 😂, AMAZING 👌🏻.
Vast amounts of shaft, but great success nevertheless. Hurrah! An audible improvement on what they sounded and nowhere near over centering like before, the perseverance pays dividends. Looking forward to upcoming 3 cylinder thrashing in the shape of old Myrt!
have a look at the wiper motor gearbox i had problems on an old car which turned out to be grease that spread and covered all the internal electrical contacts. it was fine after i cleaned the contacts with carb cleaner and paper towel's.
Great you have the wipers fixed at last. A lot of people seem to really favour ELLE for me she’s 3rd on my Current HUBNUT fleet favourite list, Foxanne and the GSA comes before her. Great work🙂👍
It's not a workshop until you have a bench vise.... mine is bolted to a small chair so you can move it wherever you need it, it's so handy and cost about 20euro In Lidl.
You missed the best month September in your calendar reveal ;) And in other news I changed all the wipers on my main car today, Oh the joy as they silently did a perfect job :D
There was a 2CV accident in Switzerland yesterday. The guy was drunk with over 2/0000 and got off the road, hitting a big stone. The 2CV looked bad but the guy only had very small injuries! So 2 CVs may look worse than they are or the drunken man was lucky!
There were so many double entendres there is was hard to focus, especially every time shift was mentioned. Keep up the videos it keeps us going during these dark times.
One epic wiper fail is on my BMW E60 - if you turn the ignition off with the wipers in mid-sweep they'll stay there until the next time you turn them on...
@@HubNut The parking mechanism on the motor on my father's Zodiac was designed to keep power to the motor until it reached the parked position, so even if you switched off the ignition mid-sweep, it would complete as soon as you turned the ignition back on. Or it would have, if the contacts in the motor hadn't worn away...
And no mention of the "triangle of doom" but today's episode could be the "triangle of pleasure". I just know Ian will awake for a pee at 3am and think of this comment lol lol lol
A lot of greased shafts, magic juice and bush... oooo you are awful 🤣I was chuckling far too much whilst eating my tea 😂 great success on that job though Ian
spag bol is cooking and I have a glass of red wine watching Hub Nut wrestle end of life car parts together to cannibalise something useful together to make a car that many would have discarded years ago usable again - magic moments
Suggest you invest in a vice, I couldn't be without one. Also recommend a set of small pry bars for delicate work like that, rather than the Clarksonesque BFH... :)
It looks better engineered that the linkage on my old Fiat Doblo, which was utter rubbish. I ended up cutting off the old ball joints, welding on lengths of threaded bar and using the small rose joints they use for motorbike rearset pedals.
All of the innuendo ! All that was missing was Sid James filthy laugh to complete this episode of carry on Hubnut !! Bravo Sir
Ah, happy memories of trying to make a serviceable unit from three worn out ones. That's proper tinkering, and successful to boot, things are looking up Mr H.
It's great to see someone struggling as much as I do when trying to fix stuff 👍
Nice to see you smile following a satisfying job. Nice video! Good wrap-up.
Have a nice weekend.
I see you now have the most important tool in any garage / workshop
- A kettle. 🙂
lol, totally. I always ponder what Americans have in their garage/shop seeing as they don't 'do' kettles.
@@TheGramophoneGirl Well, either a coffee pot, or (again to borrow on "Vice Grip Garage", a cooler for the "cold snacks"--aka, beer).
A kettle which looks identical to the one in my kitchen. Can't remember whether it came from Asda or Lidl.
And a big hammer.
Its better than watching an old suspense film. Will he get it back together ,will it work ! At least our hero is battling on against all adversity.Great stuff Ian.
Somewhat fragile apparatus requiring very precise adjustment to prevent looseness of operation? Enter Ian and very large hammer... :-)
Classic .Absolutely love this channel .
Universal Adjusting Tool Mk 1

Thank you. We use Blackwater Studios for the printing, and they choose good quality clobber.
I love your calendar and I love Elly. HubNut is great. Bravo. Pete 🇬🇧
That 2021 calendar just HAS to be better than anything from 2020
Excellent fix. It looks much better than the old setup. At least you can fix them which is more than can be said for many newer cars. 👍 🤞
So good to see some tinkering action on Elly the 2CV. Those wipers sound much better. I can never get the wipers to park on my MM either!
You could do with a vice! Makes it much easier to hold things when they need some "persuasion"

HubNut's cosy corner just needs a picture of TWC adding to the kettle and the photo of Elly to make for an iconic set. Nice job!
A win is still a win in my eyes....
Well done Ian
I think it's so sweet that you refer to all your cars by their names x
9:57 - 10:30 Were you deliberately throwing in double entendres there?
@@TheGramophoneGirl Perish the thought HubNut would never do that.LOL.
I genuinely didn't!
I wonder if other hubnutters name their cars. I have Christine the Chrysler and Fleur the Fiesta.
Good work, hammer action needs some refinement but, the wiper action is now looking good. I'm sure Ellie approves.
Thats brilliant progress on Elly, well done Ian. My best female friend asked today if I'd ordered my calendar yet and said she's get it as part of my Xmas box so thats me all sorted 👍
Well done, good job
I did notice the most important thing on your bench, the kettle 😒
Hi Ian well done another job completed.
Seeing as Hubnut keeps improving his cars there must come a time when they are better than new. Or am I dreaming?
Definitely dreaming...

“Epic wiper action” sounds sarcastic out of context but genuinely enjoyed that. Keep it up.
Oh, well done! Elly has properly working wipers at last. Good work, Ian - an enjoyable bedtime video :)
Years ago the wipers failed in my mini and hard to to the old two bits of string tick in Scotland in the winter

I want to see a road test on the chrome kettle. Definitely a important garage tool.
Ok, the wipers don't park but I guess you've got to love their enthusiasm...
Always remember to squirt the shaft with some lube before you pound it.😁 Nice job on the wipers too.
A step in right direction 👍🏼
Sorry were there wipers? I couldn't take my eyes off the kettle.
I was the same. I kept thinking I’ve got the same kettle LOL

Shafts, bush, lube I'm surprised you don't get the TH-cam police on your case ! Very Hubnut indeed
Ian, I would like a slightly damaged calendar. It is more HubNut that way!

The parking issue might be help by cleaning the positon contacts inside the wiper motor

Yup. A vice would be nice. I do have one, but it needs a refurb...

I'm sure it was a "toss up" between "shaft and bush" for word of the day! Fanar,Fanar!
Actually the slightly damaged calendar is very Hubnut. Maybe set damaged ones aside, autograph them, and sell as a special addition. I bet they sell.
Success 👍 always helps having plenty of room on your workbench 😂
Success !! You deserve more of that Ian. Very pleased for you and Elly. Any chance of restocking Hubnut Goes Global merch ... t shirts or sweats?
Cheers. It may be possible. Will see.
Elly's front wipers park like the rear wiper on my Fiat. I.e., wherever the driver wants.
Had that problem with my cinquecento, turned out swapping the motor assembly for a "new" one cured my parking issue.
Well done, Ian. Are you just going to forget about the parking? I might just leave it as is if it were me.
Yes, it's been not-parking for a good few years now!
A hubnut success, a video for the history books 😂😂👍
Mugs and kettle in the same shot.. Ian can only be working on wipers for them not being used!

Dr Hackenbush operates on a wiper assembly - only those of a certain age will understand the reference :-) .
Is the brake contact something you can disassemble and clean?
Apparently so. Job for another day!
Now, did you grease up your shaft before slipping it into the the bush? We dont want it drying out do we.
A very hubnut job
Hey if the wipers are wiping, then you have succeeded. Don't obsess about them parking. Many vehicles have wipers that don't park.

is there a Nomad page?
Sadly not. I ran out of months for all the delicious Aussie oddballs!
It would be very Hubnut if all the calendars were slightly damaged in some fashion ;)
That almost happened two years ago! Got caught in a storm in TWC with all of that year's calendars on board...
Special collector's editions with fingerprints and mug stains perhaps..
Very nearly an actual complete repair job.
