We are trying to win a cup. If it’s at all obvious that he’s the best player we currently have to fill a certain bottom 6 roll, I couldn’t care less about his offensive development. As long as he’s a Leaf he won’t touch the powerplay for years anyway. Put the best team on the ice.
Making the NHL at his age will give him plenty of time to eventually grow into bigger roles. That’s the benefit of having prospects who are eternal students, like Minten. But often times they bloom a bit later.

I don’t think sending down Minten to get more minutes inhibits the Leafs ability to win a Cup. The roster in October isn’t the one contending for a Cup in the spring.
If Minten shows he’s good enough, he’ll be on the playoff roster. My point is simply to let him start the season with the Marlies playing bigger minutes than boxing him into a lesser role at such an important stage of his development.

@@Kyle_CushTre’s words echoed mine. The best players make the team. Period.

@@robertblack4262 He also said the team in October isn’t the same team playing for the Cup and mentioned numerous players that weren’t on the opening night lineup that played roles for the Leafs last season.
