    We pick out a common movement from the Xing Yi animal forms, which Paul also recognises from the Japanese Kempo style he has also had exposure of. There is no specific term / name for this method taught within our system so we called if "Key Turning"
    We take a couple of basic applications and look at Yin (passive, nurturing) aspects and Yang (active, creative) aspects of the method to give you some ideas about how you might start to look at this within your own practice.

    That's a beatiful short strike combo from an outside entry there. The stepping could be a little more agressive in the first part of the combo to jam the leg early on, just so you can keep the guy confused enough to already slip a sneaky beng in there while he's framed with your forearm.
    Anyway, subscribed.

    I am always impressed by your content. There are no shortage of Xing Yi instructors, but not all of any quality. Often they practice on partners, if they practice their technique at all, in between a dummy and a zombie. It is no wonder that CMA is the laughing stock of the martial arts world.
    You, and Tim Cartmell, Dan Djurdjevic, and Mike Patterson seem like you are actually bothered with application on non-cooperative opponents in the Xing Yi department. It is tragic you guys do not have a wide subscriber base since you guys are informed rather than ignorant, but such is TH-cam. I look forward to more of your Xing Yi videos, though there is no Kwoon near me that teaches it.

    Is looking similar to "Fair Lady Work at Shuttles" or "Cloud Hands" in Yang Taiji

    Thanks for sharing, always interesting to see how a technique or movement repeats in the style, like those different animals. Cheers.

      NoverMaC Yep. Cloud Hands. Same movement shows up in Baguazhang too. It’s a mini martial art in itself if you know how to break it down and use it.

      This is Hebei Style Xing Yi. My school integrates three lineages of Hebei style, two are family styles passed down originally via Guo Yun Shen to some of his less famous students, the other is a more orthodox style from Li Cun Yi lineage. The result is a mix of the three. But I have also studied some Yi Quan and I have visited briefly with Che style, Song style Xing Yi and Dai style Xin Yi practitioners and I use all that I learn.

    Interesting but I use xing yi differently. I used to do stuff like you for the first 20 years of training. Now, after a further 20 years training all my applications are far more violent

      Thanks. I'm not one of James McNeil's students but I have seen some of his videos and books and find them interesting.

    The thing that makes me crazy about all of these "Application video's", is the motion showed is NEVER the motion done in the application. The application motion is always completely different, arms going in different directions, energy going in different directions.
    This video is no different. The application is not even close to the movement shown.

    • @Xingyiacademy
      @Xingyiacademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      VanishingNomad the thing is that there is a principle being shown in application not a technique. Here the principle is the overturning motion as the hands change position. The application or technique is adapted to the situation but the principle remains.

      The motions and applications seemed very clear to me, the 'generic' movement and the 'specific'/application are the same.
