    How much of this will work if you actually spar?

      In my experience, the principle works fine even against skilled opponents. Don't know about these exact moves, but mimicking a snake is a great way to create locks if you know what you're doing. That one wrist lock at the end has been done both by me, and too me, and it is 100% legit and very painful/difficult to escape from.

      All of it works if you spar. None of it works if you don't spar.

    Good stuff, man! working to gain control. I m in the done tai chi form for years category still can't fight. A lot of these moves are in tai chi long forms like Wu style. Do you agree or don't care? I can see similarities. a lot of guys find good teachers, I can't find one in Melbourne Australia. good luck to you

      +zorbataichi65 One of my students is interested in tai chi and practiced with Erle Montague in Australia for a pretty long time and continues his studies in tai chi here in the UK. He often remarks how many of the Xing Yi animal movements have similar or equivalent movements in his tai chi forms. I think that many of the Northern Chinese martial arts had a common basis in older military tactical arts and as such share many methods. Learning to use an art depends on what you want to do, and in the end my view is the art is the framework from which you develop your own fighting ability and individual style. In order to fight you will need to begin practising with a partner (ideal a number of different partners) on a regular basis, working on drills and refining skill as well as free fighting and sparring. Drills should emphasise some aspect of problem solving, be it in the use of distance, position, timing, and they should always be done with some aspect of pressure (I wouldn't say in a competitive way but in a way which you are not comfortable). everything you do should be done with internal criticism, in that you scrutinise everything and notice if you are slacking, cutting corners or being delusional. Partners help with this because if you do something you think will work and it doesn't...blam...you get hit. We'll be putting up online course material next year and are looking into other distance learning methods. If you have a partner to train with who is interested and dedicated then get in touch and I'll see if we can work out some way of passing on some instruction.

      Really each of the internals borrows/uses some of the same concepts AND techniques from one another. I see a lot of taji in the baguazhang I do...

    • @Xingyiacademy
      @Xingyiacademy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +brunowulinmen By tiao ling do you mean "raising up and leading?" I'm not sure exactly what kind of application you are referring to.
      There are some more snake applications I show in this video which was taken some years ago now, these applications are more concerned with grappling and takedowns. th-cam.com/video/aGZdca3_Yuw/w-d-xo.html

    Good movement, descent connectivity but the applications are phoney in that the opponent moves once/bogus strike vs multiple moves.

      +Raymond Pina First thanks for watching. Secondly, its a video demonstrating potential applications so there is an inherent compliance to a certain point so that the ideas can be shown. Applications, for me, are expressions of ideas of movement and energy rather than set techniques that must be rigidly adhered to, therefore in a more free environment where things don't always go to plan they can be adapted. You may notice that at times I say to my partner "do something" or "do whatever", meaning that I'm not aware of what exactly he's going to do. Yes he's not following up particularly whilst I am but without that slight compliance the expression of the technique would be diminished. You may notice in the short sections where close control is used he tries to escape or twist and turn and I have no idea where or what he's doing and I adapt to the situation. It is difficult to show clearly defined clean applications which people can appreciate versus the chaos of a free fighting. Rest assured that we participate in free fighting also
