There is a disco in Vienna, Camera Club, and when I was young, in the mid to late 1970s, you could consume illegal tobacco products here with relatively little impunity. Only with this song you didn't need one, because this song is the drug.

It is nice that you are enjoying Alex. He was a briliant performer live. He had a mixture of mischief, fun and malice about his stage presence, you never knew what they would do next. The band were the best on the scene. SAHB were Scotland's greatest band.

Two of the defining characteristics of SAHB were a sense of menace & a sense of humour. Their performances were both sublimely theatrical & slightly ramshackle - although musically as tight as a duck's backside. I saw them twice. They were truly, utterly Sensational.

Great you react to this fantastic band. They were massive in UK during the 1974-76 years. Alex Harvey was one of the most charismatic singer and showperformer in rock history. And what a nice guy. They were one of my teenage idols for sure. Sad he died so early. They have a lot of great songs to react to eg. Give My Compliments to the Chief, Action Strasse or the great cover of a Jacques Brel song called Next (from the same LP)

Hi Daniel, firstly thankyou so much for playing this. I put it in the requests but with so many I really didn't expect to be successful in getting it played. Alex unfortunately was an alcoholic and a bad one. Rarely sober on tv appearances or live on stage...yet...Wow ! He is incredible live ! - There is a song called "Framed" which became another cult song - but on The Sensational Alex Harvey Live - 1975 album....He stops the music to ask the crowd "Do you believe me" ? [ That the police framed him ] - They shout back "Nooo! ! - He responds - "You don't believe me ? - Ok, The concert is Cancelled " !!!!! - All part of the act. Lol - Other great studio tracks inc' "Framed" are "Swampsnake" and the comical 3 part - "Last of the Teenage Idols" [ do not adjust your headphones - it's suppose to move to just one ear ] Glad to got to hear and liked "Faith Healer" Great reaction. It is a classic for sure. Cheers Daniel !

This band is a GOAT. They were like KISS meets Punk for the live mystique, mixed with cabaret like Bowie and the frontman intensity like Iggy, with a lot of just musically weird pre-prog shit like OG 10CC random but almost traditional additions and pretty vivid songs. Band is underrated as frik! Made my head dead trying to describe them there lol

The intro to Faith Healer is so long because back in the day albums were also released on cassette tape, both side of the album had to be about the same length. How ever they arranged the album they couldn't get both sides the same, so it was decided they would improvise a long synth section to balance both sides out. SAHB were a great live band with Alex being a brilliant front man.

Pure brilliance, I remember being mesmerised listening to this on a friend’s copy of the album Next when I was at school. Fabulous choice of track to react to. Here’s an observation: it may be coincidence that they are both Scottish, but despite being of different musical genres, I hear traces of Alex Harvey in the voice of Bon Scott. Both now sadly gone, RIP 🙏

'Ole Audiophile here, LTNS: My son is currently 41, his name is Alex Harvey ****. I'm ALSO from Cleveland, go figure. Should tell you just about how most of us locals feel about his music & performances here. Always performed in his prison best black & white ugly striped shirt & duct taped back together shoes just like a shoreline vagabond. Few find the grace with words to describe one of their performances, lets say they were very Jethro Tull like in their showmanship.

Their first album is a sure winner titled Framed. Not a bad song on it once one becomes accustomed to their style of play. One suggestion, play 'There's No Lights On The Christmas Tree Mother, They're Burning Big Louie Tonight', you'll soon see why.

Alex Harvey sadly passed away in 1982 (heart attack). The band kept playing for some years. Good cover and great hit by SAHB Delilah - a song by Tom Jones- best listen to the live version. The brother of Alex Harvey was Les Harvey. Very good guitarist of the rock band Stone the Crows (with the great Maggie Bell on vox). He died 1972 during a concert (electrocuted). Haha. I had to look twice when I saw this reaction video. Someone doing The SAHB? They were definitely a cult classic band that was carried by the Cleveland radio station, WMMS in my area. I saw them in Cleveland right after this album was released. They were really a good live band with Alex doing off the wall songs while putting ping pong balls in his mouth and pulling a nylon stocking over his head and singing. Lead guitarist Zal Clemson with face paint and wild green attire, just made for an interesting concert! My favorite SHAB song is “Give My Compliments to the Chef.” Interesting lyrics with killer guitar by Zal! Thanks Daniel for this video.

Best band I ever saw. Not my favourite, but the best in terms of being a 'band'. Alex was a real character - like the rest of the group he was from Glasgow - and after spending time as guitarist for the London production of 'Hair' gained an understanding of the power of theatrics, which he then applied with strategic moderation in the SAHB. The guitarist you hear is the great Zal Cleminson. The drummer, the late Ted McKenna went on to play with the likes of Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, Greg Lake, and with bassist Chris Glenn was with the Michael Schenker Group (MSG).
The SAHB, like American band Little Feat, had a firm fan following, though its real fans were other musicians. Other players were better able to appreciate what was happening, though anyone who saw the band live - in a time long before MTV and TH-cam - couldn't help but be convinced.
The band also did an album without Alex. Named 'Fourplay' it reveals just how good the band itself was, with 'Pick It Up and Kick It' one of my faves. Also search out 'Who Murdered Sex'.
Here is the band minus Alex: th-cam.com/video/6pawuOB3siM/w-d-xo.html

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band was a rock band formed in Glasgow in 1972.[1] Fronted by Alex Harvey. The band had a critically acclaimed status in the UK,[2] was very popular in continental Europe, and also highly influential in Australia, most notably on the young Nick Cave and his first band The Boys Next Door.

Amazing band. A shame you did not react to the live version. As great was there sound , there theatrics is what made them so unique back then. the video game creators missed a gem when they didn't use this one....and the porn movie makers too. It is very dark.

There's a great cover of this song by Alan Wilder from Depeche Mode, check out Recoil with Douglas McCarthy from Nitzer Ebb.

Yeah, SAHB was great, you definitely got to o more with them. Both musically and lyrically very interesting. It's a couple of years since I listened to them last, so I can't recommend any particular tune right off the cuff, but they did plenty of stuff that's just great and shouldn't be missed. Some that just popped into my head is the title song Next itself, Tomorrow Belongs to Me (aluding to 30s and 40s nazism if I recall right), than the "dirty" Gang Bang.
And then there's the short (about 30 seconds) and very funny Hey from The Impossible Dream. (I think Hey is kind of a segue between a couple of songs.)
But I actually think SAHB is best listened to full albums. Anyway, splurge on it. You won't regret it.
Edit: having read the other comments, agree on all SAHB suggestions. It's a real treasure trove.

The song, Tomorrow Belongs to Me, was written & created for the movie 'Cabaret' with Liza Manelli, so no real Nazi connections, but if you know the film its menace sticks. & Alex knows a good song & improves it.

@@SpireUtd I've seen the film, though it's at least half an eternity passed since then. (i.e. I saw it in the 70s or 80s). But I sawq the particular scene with Tomorrow Belongs to Me some time after i wrote the comment. And yeah, it's a bit creepy.

A great band in their own right but they also inspired many others particularly Bon Scott of AC/DC (another Scotsman), his singing style on their earlier albums borrows heavily from Alex.
