This was so lovely to listen to, your friend sounds really nice and it was cool to listen to you ramble about fairytales you seem super educated on literature, I studied literature and it kind of felt like one of my old university seminars haha in a good way! Would love more whisper rambles ✨💗
Really really enjoyed this video! It’s interesting to hear how your thoughts on books vs movies is. I’ve never thought of it in that light but it makes sooo much sense! Please do more content like this! I was super relaxed but also invested.
I think part of the reason why children’s books these days typically have a teachable lesson is the desire to teach kids through entertainment and also to help boost sales
Your videos always help me get through mondays!! Hope you’re doing well; I appreciated this intellectual take on fairytales! I think it’s interesting to look at how fairytales are portrayed in different countries. I remember watching an animated Russian short film on the little mermaid and it was very different from the American version (Americans love a happy ending lol).
I'm not familiar with the Russian version so I'll have to check that out! Also lol you're so right that Americans love a happy ending, probably something to do with the cultural idea of: if you just work hard and persevere, things will work out. Because imagine if we acknowledged the possibility of working hard and still being unhappy at the end 😱
i love your whisper rambles and how wonderfully random they are! also, those fairytale essays seemed very interesting, where do you suggest i go looking for some?
Loved the video, thank you! You must, must spin off this video and possibly enlighten us with some short fairy tales with some short analysis or something. Idk… lol You’re the artist! Ha
The message of the children’s book simply could be about dogs generally not being allowed to eat human food as well as about patience. The story could sort of play out in one day and Kit constantly begs for her human’s food, maybe once the rhyme could be „and Kit got a crumb“. At the end Kit finally gets dinner (her dog food) „…and Kit got some.“ 😊
Resilience and wit could be the lessons. So resilience, Kit waits, but then Kit does something that makes the human understand that she wants her dinner which could be an example of wit!
I wrote a whole Master's thesis on modern retellings of fairy tales 🤭 I highly recommend to analyse how women and girls are portrayed in those 'original' tales and how it changed over time. Maybe the stories don't have teachable moments but they did shape kids' minds. One of my favourite examples is Little Red Riding Hood who in Grimms' version was quite smart and brave and then was turned into a naive, helpless little girl who needs to be protected and saved when she doesn't obey her parents 😅 Apart from The Bloody Chamber I really liked Kissing the Witch by Emma Donoghue. And for essays and theory I recommend Jack Zipes, he's amazing!
I like to think that pointless stories were retold and preserved was because someone told the story with fantastic delivery which made this pointless story entertaining. Sort of like when someone say “oh, so-and-so told me about about this situation, but it was funnier when they said it.”
I think the teachable moment was that the dad is a mega d-bag and so he’s not invited to his son’s kickass wedding party at the castle. “Hey, check out my stupid son! I never give him any tasks because he doesn’t know how to do them! And he doesn’t know how to do them because I never give him any! But this isn’t about me! This is about my stupid son, so back off me!” All it took was for this kid to get out into the world and he’s living it up, meeting kings and marrying princesses and ish. And all that came about just from some weird curiosity he had about shivering. Sounds like he’s kind of a straightforward guy, and tbh it’s kind of refreshing! Not as refreshing as getting a bucket of cold water thrown on you in bed, but refreshing nonetheless. Way to go, younger son! Show ‘em how it’s done!
Also I get so excited to talk about whatever you’re talking about that I sometimes forget to say thank you so much for sharing with us your time and magnificent personality!
Aw thank you so much! That means a lot. Also totally with you on the younger son being the only one worth anything. "All it took was for this kid to get out into the world and he’s living it up, meeting kings and marrying princesses" -- l o l 💀
William Gass writes really well about these kinds of stories but I'm forgetting the name of the specific essay right now. Will try to find it. Anyway, really good video; thanks.
@@MauveASMR Well I'm now actually not sure if it's something you want, but the essay I was thinking of is "The Nature of Narrative and Its Philosophical Implications" from Tests of Time.
Mauvellous 🐻❄Have you read the fairytale called The Juniper Tree? It sounds like it's going to be so lovely but It. Is. Not. I always loved Jorinda and Jorindel, The Twelve Dancing Princesses and The Wild Swans.
Dearest Debs! I hadn't heard of that one so I just read it today and WHOA IS IT DARK. Thanks for the rec! I guess...you could call the ending happy? Kind of??
@@MauveASMR Hi + thanks so much for your quick response!! What I actually truly want to state is, apart from being an excellent ASMR video, I found the content of your discussion regarding children’s books etc. to be quite interesting and thought-provoking__ not to put down any other ASMR persons, but your organized and insightful presentation could have stood on its own two feet in any blog or essay etc.__ So impressed [no pressure, but can’t wait to check out your others!!]______________________
This video is literally perfect omg, the dark lighting, the hand movements, the finger brushing with no brush (hard to find) thank you!!!!
I literally love pretending like we’re friends and it is actually soothing to be living in my delusion! ❤️
We ARE friends! :)
This made me lol. Me too girl! Me too 🙊
Parasocial relationships 💀
I love how small and personal your videos feel. It's always such a comfy and genuine vibe
Thank you so much! With every video that is my intention, so it's super nice to hear it reflected back 🤗🤗
I like how you’re not blowing on the mic. It sounds gentle and subtile instead of rough and dry like I’ve seen in other asmr videos. Thanks !
Glad to hear it! Feedback like that is always helpful :)

The Bloody Chamber is one of my favorite books, Carter is such a great writer. I hope you enjoy the re-read!

My favorite fairy tale is East of the Sun, West of the Moon, which is just gorgeous and has some really wonderful novel length retellings

One I just found in an old book of essays, but the other I think you can find in PDF online! Fairy Tale is Form by Kate Bernheimer

YES! Genius. It's all about patience fom Kit's POV

@@hundhundkatt Yes! Resilience and wit! Maybe I'd change resilience to grit so it could be grit and wit 😎
Kit Kittredge!! lol :) loved this as always!

Hi mauve! Happy Monday! Great video ❤️
Thanks Zacky! Happy Monday to you too!
thank you for this one
The moral of the story is that going on whimsical little quests will always end with you netting a baddie
you should check out the fairy tale “hans my hedgehog” - it’s about a hedgehog with human legs who plays the bagpipes and rides a chicken!
Wtf hahaha, will do

I honestly don't think that a lot of older fairy tales have a "teachable moment". I think they were just to pass the time lol
