  • Welcome to The Science of Clock Change, a video series by Save Standard Time to explain how clock change affects our lives. This series was made possible by generous funding from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation.
In most of the United States, we are familiar with the convention of changing our clocks twice a year. Some legislators are now moving to eliminate clock change, but which convention should be adopted permanently? What are Standard Time and Daylight Saving Time? What have we tried before, and what can the past tell us about this present question for the future?
We encourage you to watch all twelve videos that explain the science and history that have led scientists, physicians, and other groups to support permanent Standard Time. The videos will review the history of Daylight Saving Time, and its short- and long-term effects on health and other aspects of daily living. • The Science of Clock C...

Standard time all year is the only way to end changing the clocks.
Without DST, the days would continue to get longer as usual until the summer solstice. Same thing with from the summer solstice through the winter solstice.
Most people do not understand that without DST, we would not have to fall back either. It would take months to get to pre-5pm sunsets, rather than overnight. Same thing in the spring and summer. Throughout the month of February, the sunrises get exponentially earlier and sunsets start to get later. Staying on standard time all year would make the sunrise and sunset times change a lot more gradually, helping people with seasonal affective disorder and sleep disorders.
The most important thing is to keep solar noon as close to 12:00 as possible for your circadian rhythm.

      In Amsterdam Netherlands
      During Standard Time
Latest solar noon is at 12:54pm
Earliest solar noon is at 12:23pm
If it was 1 hour behind
      Latest solar noon at 11:54am
      Earliest solar noon at 11:23am
This one is closer to 12pm

Mornings throughout March, April, September, and October are as dark as in November through February. The only difference is that evenings are far brighter than they should be for having sunrises between 06:30 and 07:30. Morning light is objectively most important to keep diurnal species synced with their environments, so we need Standard Time every month of the year.

Morning light advance’s your body clock as well
      Early badtime and wake time
People think that evening light is good but this delay our body clock (later bad and wake time) which is hard to wake early for work and school
Keeping standard time is the best way to end the clock change and don’t observe Daylight Saving Time

@@tahmidabdin4625 Exactly! We’re having our summer nights cut artificially short by pretending that 11 pm is midnight. I got irritated when I was briefly accosted by a cop in his cruiser when I was on a night walk in my neighborhood to escape from the intense summer heat and it really killed my vibe since I had to remove my headphones on a song I really liked so I could hear and answer him, all because choosing to ignore DST by following standard time made me appear to be “out late”. I’d also love to get an extra hour to darkness to light more fireworks in July.

@@DJBlueX people also think that changing the clocks creates more daylight but it doesn’t it changes the time of sunrise and sunset
Sun comes up and down at the same time, no matter what the clock says
Sunrise and sunset earlier during standard time
Sunrise and sunsets later during Daylight Saving Time and imagine putting kids to school in the dark half of the year due to late sunrise

Standard time should be year round and the clocks will not change in USA
Changing the clocks does not create more daylight instead change the time of sunrise and sunset
    If they make DST permanent
    In Boise Idaho
On the shortest day which was 21 December 2022
Sunrise 8:15am change to 9:15am with DST
    Sunset 5:11pm change to 6:11pm
    Daylight hours was 8:55
You can literally test it yourself by putting your own clocks 1 hour ahead in winter
I have tested Permanent DST in winter on 21 December 2022
My clocks was 1 hour ahead just for 1 day

Boise is an example of a city where solar noon occurs closer to 13:00 even with Standard Time. Most of Idaho, and certainly Boise, should not even be located in the Mountain Time Zone, let alone observe DST.

@@JamesCr05it should be on Pacific Standard Time
      Latest sunrise 7:18am ( Currently 8:18am)
      Earliest sunset 4:07pm ( currently it’s at 5:07pm)
Solar Noon should be closer to 12pm or noon

@@tahmidabdin4625 I agree that Boise should observe Pacific Standard Time. Most of Idaho lies more than 112.5 degrees west of the prime meridian. On 4 January, 07:18 to 16:22 would be more reasonable daylight hours than 08:18 to 17:22.

    • @tahmidabdin4625

@@JamesCr05 doesn’t really make a difference because changing our clocks doesn’t create more daylight
But I would keep standard time where the sunrise and sunset would be 1 hour earlier
