Hey everyone! Sorry I’m late to the comments on this one. What day is this? Must have turkey on my mind. Anyway. Anyone interested in a flagship soundbar fight? Cinema 1200 vs. Ambeo vs. Q950A vs. ??? Should the HT-A9 even be in there? Let me know. Help shape the next video!

I’m apparently one of the few who was able to get this system the week it was released. Bottom line - truly fantastic. A completely satisfying experience. Integration with center speaker on my A80J required a few adjustments on the TV but after doing so it was nearly perfect. I eventually got the subwoofer which made it even better! As for drop outs, I had a few, but that was fixed by pointing my router antennas away from the system. I’m so glad I’m not on some waiting list right now. Thanks for this great review.

    • @elpepelucho

I'm one of those patiently waiting on many lists. I have the A80J and been binge watching youtube reviews for the HT-A9, a couple of reviewers I trust mentioned that using the TV as the center channel through the cable made it worse, some said the speakers and the TV speaker are not acoustically matched. I supposed this is one of those personal tastes thing, but I'm wondering if you can expound on the adjustments you made.

Same boat as you, got it real quick with SW5 and A80J (500$ off for the trio). I think I prefer using the A80J as center channel. But not done on testing (tv, movies, XBX & PS5). Love the trio, really solid experience. The surround is quite unreal, though to match for a soundbar kit with satellites and sub.

I have had the HTA9 for a month and really happy with the performance and how it fits into my living room. Atmos playback is stunning. The only issue i have had is centre channel through s-centre into X80J, it just sounded worse than running the HTA9 alone with phantom centre.

The most immersive wireless speakers at the moment! Sold my bose 900 setup for this and its worth it! I had more drop outs and problems in bose than this, tip for the dropout issue, connect directly the devices to hdmi in of the a9 receiver, just use an hdmi switch if you have more device, you will most likely experience drop out if you will rely from the tv , and also make sure the 4 speakers have a clear line of sight from the receiver for a solid connection!

We're very happy with our HT-A9, (with the large subwoofer)...For movie watching, the surround effect/immersion seems to very much depend on the movie, but when correctly encoded, the experience is awesome...BTW, We don't have this paired with a SONY TV, so we're relying on the 'phantom' center channel...Truthfully, the dialog is crystal clear and without looking for it, you'd be hard pressed to know that there isn't a center channel...Also, our sources are linked directly to the A9, (rather than to the TV and then to the A9)...we've never experienced any 'drop-outs'!

I seriously regretted buying HT-A9 . Not one , not one reviewer mentioned that , if one of the four speakers don’t work , the whole system don’t work. I bought HT-A9 and SW5 subwoofer. And I have sent in one of the HT-A9 speakers and it spoiled again rendering the whole system USELESS. And when it works , my latest Sony 85 inch TV (I bought Sony TV because I am afraid of incompatibility with the HT-A9) keep switching between tv speakers and HT-A9 speakers . Something is very wrong. Pretty tired and have left the HT-A9 & subwoofer to collect dust until I have time to send one of the speakers to repair again .

$1800 isn’t bad considering it’s a surround system. No AV receiver needed, no prior AV knowledge or research, and wireless design means no fussing with speaker cables nor the ridiculous debate surrounding them. Unless the sub is astounding better off buying a different sub, like dual SVS PB-1000 pros and adding their wireless sub accessory. Curious to see how the review goes and if still think $1,800 is reasonable.
    Update post video:
Being locked into the 2 Sony subs makes the $1800 less reasonable. But the auto calibration is pretty cool for people who have no desire to calibrate nor pay someone to calibrate. In that regard it’s not bad for someone who has the means and values convenience.

Everyone that reviews this says it should not be sold without the sub, but I disagree, and here is why! I bought this system on a pre-order basis, without the sub, because I live in a condominium! I am able to enjoy pretty spectacular surround in my unit, without disturbing my neighbors above and below! I would really like to have the sub for the impact it brings, but this gives me great sound without the booming bass effects. Now, I do wish that I could dial up the bass a bit more than the system provides.
I also paired this with the A80J, and use the center channel sync from the TV. It’s slightly better than the phantom center produced by the HT-A9.

No mention of connectivity issues. Some of the user reviews on Sony's site mention drop-otus and connectivity problems, with one summing it up: "great, when it works". This feels like first generation teething issues, but the tech holds promise. I'm sick to death of complicated, wired, HT, so this holds a lot of interest for me. If Sony pursues this, they should develop full sized mains and a dedicated center for those who want that bigger/better option. At some point, incorporating the wireless controller tech directly into the TV would be the next logical step.

I bought this system in a local store with a really good deal, 25% off on all Sony lineup that day, i ended up paying 1499€. I paired it with my Sony A90J and I have to say that this is a really good system. The surround sound is amazing, even if my room has a huge gap on the left you can somehow listen to a phantom left speaker, the voice clarity is amazing too, you can lower your volume but still listen to voices and all the effects. I'm planning to buy the big subwoofer in the next months to complete the setup, but for me that I never had a home theater in my life the amount of bass provided by the HT-A9 itself is really good, I can't imagine with the sub. Another HUGE deal breaker for me compared to the A7000 or A5000 soundbar is the fact that there is no soundbar at all, i can leave my tv on his legs and avoid to put up a wall stand, only 4 speaker and no cables, amazing.

I’ve got mine hooked up to the 83A90J as the Center. It really is fantastic. With the screen that size and the Acoustic Surface audio of the A90J, you can often hear the dialogue localised to the character who is talking. Plus compared to Klipsch and some others , it handles DTS. So if you’ve got a disc collection of any size DTS is a must. I’ve had the Sony HT-A9 unopened and taunting me for a few weeks while I wait on a back ordered sub to compliment the system but Caleb’s review has got me itching to set it up.
Great review as always… thanks for doing it!

@@Caleb_Denison Update: I’ve been living with the HT-A9 for a couple of weeks now. I have the SW-5 and it’s plenty impactful in my medium sized room with 9’ ceilings. Center channel duty falls to the 83” A90J and I’ve got no complaints there.
No issues with setup or dropouts (knock on wood) and aesthetically it fits.
Frankly I’m very impressed though I’ve largely only used it for movie watching. I stream with Tidal and will get around to testing that IF I can pry the remotes away from my wife. Typically she just shrugs her shoulders at this type of stuff but she’s revisiting all her favorite movies and feels the overall system has breathed new life into them.

If you care more about aesthetics and fit in the soundbar crowd, this looks great. Everyone else will laugh at that price because for it, you can get a decent real home theater system that you can continuously upgrade to make better. This on the other hand is a one and done deal - there is no upgrade path. So you better be satisfied with it because there’s no way beyond.

Hi Caleb, I want to connect a Soundbar/Sony HT-A9 which has a hdmi input signal from a Fire stick/tv box/game console and pass through 4k HDR video via hdmi e-arc/arc output(thru soundbar/HT) to a 4k Monitor which has hdmi 2.0 input, is this connection possible and will the 4k Monitor works and function similar to a TV hdmi e-arc/arc input? I am asking this question to everyone and see if this setup is possible, apparently nobody talks about it, please kindly help.

For the price of the Sony system with additional sub for that price I could get a true 5.1 SVS Prime system that would run circles around the Sony. i don't see how any HT system can be decent, let alone good, w/o a center channel - as you said, the most important channel in a HT system. Great video as usual.

Every review I’ve seen on TH-cam from some of my favorite tech guys don’t mention any connectivity issues like frequent drop outs. This seems to be a big issue from what I’ve seen via reviews online so I was hoping to see this get addressed.

When I got this system a month ago it came with the front left speaker dead. Sent it out for repair and got it back within 7 days. I haven’t noticed any drop outs. The only time I hear drop outs is when I block the speaker. It’s extremely sensitive and has to have no obstruction

    • @CinemaSteve
      @CinemaSteve 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

This! I actually didn’t get it because of how rampant the drop out issue is. I mean just looking at BestBuy and Amazon there’s a myriad of reviews talking about them returning it because it’s so finicky. Hopefully V2 will be better or a firmware update comes but Sony and firmware updates is comical.

I had issues at the beginning. But after moving my wifi router away from the a9 black box, ive not had any more issues. I really think these things are sensitive to wifi interference. I think you need a pretty big space to make these work well

This drop out issue has been addressed already, Sony released a new update firmware named the 1.162 that solved this issue. Check this guy Blazin Reviews youtube page he currently lives in Japan but the review it’s done in perfect english language. There it’s also another youtube page named Cobra that compare this new Sony HT-A9 sorround system with the SA-SW5 300 watts sub vs the ambeos sound bar with a external subwoofer and the Sonos arc with the sub gen 3 sub and a pair of SL ones rear speakers. The language is foreign but has subtitles in english. All this 3 top of the line sound bars are neck and neck in this sound test at the end it’s all about your personal preference.

Does anyone know if you can connect a regular center speaker (not a Sony tv) to the HTA9? I figure with that being the biggest concern and not having a Sony tv myself, it might be a good idea to just get one to add along with the sub. Just not sure if you’re able to do this.

Thats a great review, much appreciated!
Currently I am having a LG 83C1, a PS5 and looking to build a sound system.. so far I am considering the HT-A9 with the big sub OR a Denon X3700H with a surround system from KEF (Q750, Q650c, Q150) paired with the SVS PRO3000 micro.
I do have a couple of questions if possible please:
    - witch system will offer a better overall sound quality (movies, music, games)
    - do you expect a noticeable higher power from the classic AV + surround system?
    Thank you in advance buddy!
    Cheers

    • @MrJonathan32
      @MrJonathan32 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I have both and to me the Ambeo is better if you add a sub to the Ambeo. Also the Ambeo needs to be in a room that’s inclosed to get the full effect. The A9 is great but way to many Audio drop outs. The Ambeo has more fidelity to it and sounds more cinematic to me. If Ambeo had rears it would be the ultimate package and the A9 would not even be in the same league . Rears really add immersion
