After I got my drivers license at 16, my first race at Laguna Seca in 1970, Mark Donohue in his Javelin was chasing Parnelli Jones in his Mustang. The TransAm series was so great because you had factory teams running production based pony cars driven by some of the best drivers in the world. The cars were the true definition of stock cars because the rules were strick. Today's TA cars are tubular space frame, custom suspension, fiberglass bodies, NASCAR 355 spec engines. I like the cars and the racing but I don't get the same rush as the I did back in the "Glory Days"
Great Racing Series! The SGT winner, Justin Oaks, drove his first race car just last summer. (2020). Its the "DroneWorks" car. He hooked up with a local Texas race shop called G Speed and he is winning everything. He also races in the Spec Miata class with NASA and SCCA. Great story of a local guy making a splash in auto racing. I look to see him move up to TA next season.
