    We bought a very small toy hauler with extra large windows…we don’t use the toy hauler for hauling toys but use for an outside deck that we absolutely love. We just came home from Fenwick Island Delaware and backed our camper up to the water with the deck it felt like we were over the water. Thanks for sharing your story, we love our small camper as well!

    You are still adorable and I love watching you smile and dance! Passion for living is wonderful!
    They make soft-start kits for your RV and also just for the AC that takes care of the ramp-up AC units do when the compressor comes on. With most units, this will allow you to hook up at a friend's house with a 15 Amp connection but still run your AC.
    I've been steadily downsizing for a few years. The less stuff I had on hand, ironically the less I needed. I adore the simplicity of tiny living and how though you have a couple of things out of place and it becomes a wreck, you pick up those couple of things and it's clean! My frame structure is significantly more robust than the original (I built my own from scratch on a 1977 Nomad chassis) and recently stood up to 90MPH straight line winds (from the side) with nary a leak or problem so I'm not too worried about anything shy of a tornado. A good chef only needs a handfull of pots and pans and one good knife, so I won't be scrimping any on my cooking passion! I've thought of having some basil and rosemary in the kitchen window but we'll see as even in a house that only worked for so long before they fought and killed each other. I have two lab mixes that stay with me but we don't really hurt for space especially since I opened the dining area up. I designed a layered insulation of several different materials which has my insulation factor around an R30 top to bottom, so keeping a constant, comfy temp is pretty easy even with just a window unit. I'll be installing a deisel heater for really cold weather but an electric fireplace does fine for most of the time. I've seen people who want baths get these collapsible canvas bag tubs they can fill up outside (or inside if you have the room) so you can get those baths in every now and then. That might be an idea!

    • @KimannChessa
      @KimannChessa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you made a wonderful, cozy, safe home! Thank you for the tips on the a/c and bathtub. I will look into it! I tried to grow basil and mint, but they didn't do well with the temperature extremes when driving. Plus, my camper is so small that it was inconvenient to keep moving them around when I needed space. I appreciate your comment and for watching my video!

    As long as you can have occasional house sitting jobs, visiting friends and relatives. I would think truck camper life is way better. I would miss a swimming pool or jacuzzi if i had one...but not the cost, maintenance, being tied down...as for appreciating house vs depreciating camper....well upkeep of house is expensive unless you can do it yourself or have talented friends. Realistate taxes are rising, utilities are rising, some communities are more rentals and depreciating for home owner.. Now you have freedom to travel or camp in so mant places and not all the clutter. That sounds priceless to me...plus 2 terriers that love to travel where ever you go🐶🐶❤

    Hello Kimann, hope all is well. Wife and I are retired and live outside of a little town in the middle of nowhere in Oregon. I am a "little" older than you and wonder what your thoughts are five years to ten years down the road? It's easy to say I will think of that when the time gets here, but having no plan would worry me. Having no retirement income would worry me as well (can't necessarily depend on SSN from what I've seen). I wouldn't plan on living on other's generosity as you don't know where they will be at that time. We go RV'ing as well, but always have the base camp (our home) to go back to. Have you thought maybe of purchasing a small place so you can go live in if you get injured or something happens where you can't travel anymore? Judging from your parents location, I might presume you would end up in Florida one of these days. Anyway, just some questions/concerns that come to mind. Enjoy the videos, keeper coming. Happy trails.

      Great comment! I have thought of that and I would like to eventually purchase a small cabin or land and a small house as a respite when I don't want to travel full-time anymore. Thanks for sharing the pros and cons. I'm in a house now and would like to do some part-time exploring in a van, with the possibility of doing full-time travel photography and videos. I have a nice garden and would miss that, but it opens the door to explore small local farms to get some fresh produce. It would be less expensive for me, and seeing the country in a van would be priceless.

    One advantage of camper vs. house is property tax. You are saving $3000 or more per year, which compensates for the depreciation of the camper. Also, the maintenance costs are lower. Your truck is probably your highest maintenance expense.
    In what state do you register your vehicle? Do you have your permanent/mailing address as your parent's house? Florida is good because there is no state income tax to pay or file. Also, no vehicle inspection (although it is good to get a thorough professional inspection every year on a traveling vehicle) or emissions testing to deal with. BTW: do you have your tires rotated every 5000 to 6000 miles (Sam's Club does it for about $25). It will extend and even out tread wear.
    I previously lived in Maryland. I liked the state (except for the roads), but hated the government. Tax, tax, tax is their motto. There isn't a tax they don't like. State income tax plus additional county income tax. Sales tax of 7%. Plastic bag tax. Bi-annual vehicle emissions inspection. Property tax costs about twice more than Florida (though not as bad as New Jersey), because the property values are more than twice as high. But only one time vehicle safety inspection, which is more thorough that other states like Virginia that has annual inspections.

    • @KimannChessa
      @KimannChessa  ปีที่แล้ว

      The property taxes on my house were around $6,000. I never thought of it that way - that the savings compensate for the depreciation. Thank you for that insight. My truck registration is in Florida, and I use my parents' address. I appreciate the tip on the tire rotation. You know a lot about State tax laws and vehicle requirements! Florida is a good state for nomads. Thank you!

    Compounded over the last 32 years, the average house in the USA has gone up 4.3% year-over-year. That's really almost zero, given costs of 1% in property taxes, 2.5% on average for maintenance, and maybe 0.3% for insurance. What tickles me is, I know a sh!t load of people that work in the medical field & NONE of them are happy in that profession that they’ve chosen…especially, nurses. And I always pose this question to them…”If you’re NOT HAPPY being a nurse or a CNA, then why on God’s green Earth did you go into that field of work?” And 100% of the time their response is: “Because of the money 💰.” So to put it simply, you chose a career, spent all that time & money on school…just to make a nice living 💰🏡🚗, but you’re not happy in your career 🤔. And I’ve known nurses that their marriages have FAILED because of their career…and now they’re DIVORCED, LONELY & getting to the point of becoming BITTER & cat lady’s 😂. My ex-wife is a nurse @ UCSF in San Francisco, Ca. & she’s not happy either in that field. She became a nurse because her mom was a nurse 👩🏼‍⚕️ for over 40+ years & she followed in her footsteps. She didn’t pursue her TRUE dreams & passions & finally realized that “Nursing” is not all SUNSHINE 🌞 & RAINBOWS 🌈. Do what you love, people. Not what pays the most money 💰. That’s RIDICULOUS. 😒

    • @KimannChessa
      @KimannChessa  ปีที่แล้ว

      Our healthcare system is a business driven by profits. Nursing can be a soul-sucking profession. I went into it because I wanted to help people, and it was a recession-proof job. I quickly learned that your hands are tied, and you are there to follow procedure and policy, which may only sometimes be suitable for the patient. Many people follow what is expected of them and make decisions based on others' opinions or expectations. You must know yourself and be strong and confident enough to pursue your path. Our society does not promote that. I loved the insights in your comment. I appreciate you watching my video!

    As the phrase implies, living free, means more money you get to keep unless you happen to limp into a new car dealership or your name is William Wallace (Brave Heart)
    Living comfortable means owning a home you bought or built and the tax man cometh and even if you paid cash for the home, you are a slave to the taxes that leech on to you by those eternal swindlers.
    Some boondockers find solace in buying cheap off grid property like in Arizona, and purchasing a tiny home like Home Depot or other manufacturers sell.
    I think you're doing good girl because you have a base of family and friends that welcome you to their homes.
    You can always plan for the future real estate crash that is coming and maybe buy a little slice of heaven in one of your favorite states.
    PS. Beware the original bedding provided by RV companies. If you start having back spasms, look no further than getting a new mattress in a box and make sure the frame isn't cratering or broken.
