Great video. I cleared my drain hole again yesterday. What a hassle and could only get to one drain hole. But at least the interior of the car is dry. This is a great car with a simple issue that can cause great problems. VW did a recall at one time where they would put your car up on a jack and clear your drain holes from beneath the car. Kristjan Komel Hi I have the same problem. But from right and left? Q. Is there another place that enters the water? Before I put the seat back and everything. Thank you good video.
Had the same problem a few times on my vw passat 2002, on mine one hole is under the battery tray the other one is under the brake servo. Another thing you can do is remove the four rubber grommets underneath the floor of the car so if the water does come in to the car due to the holes beaning blocked the water will drain straight out and does not hold in the foot wells, just avoid driving through any deep water has the water might come up. The first time i had this issue back in 2006 the ECU unit got water into it and i had to replace it, but since then by taken the grommets out when the car lets in water it drains straight out through the floor and i know then that it is blocked again and have to clear it out again . Apart from this problem and the door locks this is a great car, i have now had this car for 11 years but i wish i had kept my MK2 Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia x

Replace the gasket under the engine controller housing, use roofing silicone to seal the place where the hood opening cable comes out of the cabin, seal around the sheet on the door sides, cut the rubbers under the battery and under the brake servo in half with scissors, or remove
Had that blockage too. Same as video and if you need to lift carpet etc try little hole at lowest point then seal up and paint. Use heat and plenty ventilation to get rid of the excess water/condensation.
I had similar issue with my passenger footwell being wet ... in my 2003 B5.5 wagon or Estate. It had me so freaked out ..thankfully it was not coming from under the dash or the Cabin air filter area. Both passenger inner door panels were leaking. I had to clear door water drain holes and seal the inner door panels with silicone. It is a know issue as well.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I'm trying to identify all possible causes of water leaking into my B5. I also read about water from air conditioning process getting into the car and not outside of it. Somwhere under compartment box of the passanger. Do you think that is possible? Edit: draining holes were not blocked in my B5FL. I dried the floor as the author suggested but stll not sure about the cause of the leakage :/
Hm, dunno man. In my car the water was coming in through the ventilation sistem. Best thing would be also to get rid of the rubber seals in the drainage holes.
The two ways that comes in is the way presented in this video, and also the drain hose for the sunroof. open your sunroof and dump in a cup of water around the edge of it. And see where the water comes out. It should come out on the ground by the front of your front doors
The blocked rubber drains could be the problem but none times out of ten it's not, it is actually the seal under the filter holder which you see at the end of the video. The seal breaks down and the water gets underneath it and runs down into the car. Take the filter holder out, clean of the old seal, silicone sealer around it and refit. Problem solved.
What language is this? At one moment I thought it was Latvian, because it has some Lithuanian words (like Todas Vietu), but then I realised it sounded kind of slavic. Is this Hungarian? Or Czech? Anyway, I had the same issue. The battery is a pain to remove in this car because the plastics get in the way. Mine flooded the ECU, it was this bad, but after four days in the sun, ECU dried and problems went away :D. This is why I love Passat. By the way, I have a little older Passat (1999, 1.9 TDI, 66KW), but the drain hole under the battery is the same. do you recommend removing that rubber in the hole in the drain hole battery? I suspect that the rubber contributes in the accumulation of dirt there.

I worked on it over last weekend, before I got reply from you. I did little more extreme thing - I have removed the front seats and removed the whole carpet with under padding. Took it in the trunk of the other car to the local car wash and there treated it. I first lay it down flat on the floor and pour two big bottles of vinegar - soaked it for a while. Then I used pressure nozzle from the car wash and spray the hell of the both sides with soap. Then with pressurized water. I left it to rain a bit and drove it back to my place to dry it in the free air, on the grass in the sunny weather. Still little damp - I will wait a day or two before reinstalling. BTW - to remove the carpet I had to cut it under the dash. Easier to glue it later in the place where nobody can see it than disassembly whole dashboard to remove it as a whole piece :-D
no worries - thanks for the reply. If the all smell will not go away I am sure the carpet will be at least little cleaner! I do not plan doing it again, too much hassle! And I still need to reassemble everything back. BTW - how do you like your engine in this VW? Mine is also V6 but 2.8 l gasoline with an automatic transmission (Tiptronic). I like it alot.
Love it! Mine is sequential. The 3rd, 4th and 5th gears are very responsive, the throtle and shifting feels a bit lazier then a gasoline one tho. You just need to play with timing. Is there a double clutch shifting system in your's?
Kristjan Komel ooo yeah. It seems that it doesn't leak through air vents because carpet is dry after all night rain, but I'll reseal it to prevent future leak. Btw your language is similar to mine, is it Czech

Omar Abdelaziz I have a 2003 1.8t Passat. Preventing water intrusion on this model is critical. The transmission control module is located under the carpet in the floor. It looks like a computer motherboard and is housed in a plastic box. The box will fill with water and ruin the computer board. You can't imagine what kinds of problems that causes. Make sure absolutely no amount of water enters the cabin.
Omar Abdelaziz You should seriously reconsider buying the B5 1.8t Passat. There are so many problems related to this model, it will literally make you go insane.
Make sure you dried it out and replaced the pollen filter housing, you don't want to have random alarms and broken bonnet position sensor like me. When they took the platform for B5 Superbs and Passats they unfortunately inherited a common Audi issue.

I've do the same thing to my passat. There was over 5cm of water underneath the battery but I didn't know that it can leak through the air vents,
Now you know ;)
Kristjan Komel ooo yeah. It seems that it doesn't leak through air vents because carpet is dry after all night rain, but I'll reseal it to prevent future leak. Btw your language is similar to mine, is it Czech
Super video! Imam isto težavo, pa je ta video najboljši od vseh, ki sem jih pregledal :).
Edino me zanima, kako si to zaščitno plastiko ki pokriva akumulator in te zadeve, pobral dol?
hvala, me veseli. ma kaj misliš, kako sem obnovil mogoče?
me zanima kako je ta plastika pritrjena? A je treba bit kej pozoren na kakšne zatiče? Ali se samo "odpne"?
Tesnilno gumo, ki teče po celoti odtisneš in potegneš proti sebi celoten plastičen pokrov. Ni težko
In the passat car manual book it says that you shoud clean or that will hapen
Best thing is to take out the plastic rubbers that are in those holes. They clog prety easy ...
Every now and then I pour water on my windscreen and let it run down and should fall through the hole. Also check for leaves under the bonnet and clear these! After I cleared and cleaned my Plenum chamber I waxoyled it! I remember years ago it was a check that VW did for you while the car was on the jack. They just poked the holes from underneath the car!
Ye i do the same at every wash
Hey Happy Me, would you mind wrintg few more words on " cleaning Plenum chamber "? Thanks
@@MrBuzzgrow I did the job yesterday. This video is very informative and there is one other I've seen. It's about an hour to do the job. Just check for leaves around the engine bay when you check your oil. Them every year when you check the pollen filter take the plenum chamber cover off and look for signs of water from blockages. I mentioned before pour water on the windscreen. It should flow out of the bottom of the car. Hope this helps! th-cam.com/video/W8lAKi1Rx4s/w-d-xo.html
I was doing the same thing with my passat b6. But I live in India and summer temps can go as high as 48C. It was afternoon as soon as I poured water on the screen it cracked to due to rapid cooling. I literally cracked my windscreen with water. BAD LUCK.
Wonderful video to help everyone. So, I am the only one that is curious what the original language is? I hope you stick with "detailing" because we sure need people who can do this well! For that long floor trim piece on the side you had a hard time with, I imagine a body shop guy would have a good tool for that?
Slovenian ;) ye i guess there are tools for that, unfortunatly i don't have them. Thx
@@kristjankomel3453 I drive a Passat B5.5 2003 I had no problems with it, it is comfortable and spacious, goes well, accelerates a good engine, consumes no oil, and is a small consumer in terms of fuel. But one day it was raining at night and the next day I noticed water, ie a smaller bar in the back seat behind the front passenger, I thought that it might not be from a window that might not have been closed properly so I cleaned it and did not even pay attention to it .. it started raining again all the windows this time and I closed this time and the next day I had something to see and the water a large amount in the back behind the passenger. I took it off with a sponge and cleaned the cloths and checked the drainage pipes on the car under the battery were visibly clogged, but I cleaned them well both holes and also replaced the climate filter which was quite bad, that is, cabins but water and further away from somewhere so i wonder where the more water can enter is not clear to me? Do you have any explanation and if you can help me with this? Thanks in advance. Greeting!
@@BOGGY89KV yes, you need to check the sealing of the air filter. Those holes aren't enough to drain in mid of a heavy rain unfortunatly ... or it mqy be thqt the sealing of the door is worn and need replacement. Try to look at videos of that.
bravo majstr ;) lepu povedou usje :) jz lih gledm te leake ma imm oa seat leona in je mwokru pr sovoznika -.-
Ben upm d rjšiš ;)
thank you
Hello, I have the only problem that the water falls on the front passenger seat.I will open it and remove the battery to see if the tube is closed Give me some advice if it doesn't pick the problem only with the pipe There are no other problems.
VW says: i'm sorry, guys,it's the first car we make, we'll try to do better the next time.
I have an 03 passat b5.5, wet in drivers footwell, I check the bungs both were clear, the pollen filter gasket seems ok, I just for the life of me cant find the damn leak!
Yeah.. another problem is door window lift mechanism gaskets. those go bad too..
the pollen filter gasket does not prevent the water leaks, it just for dust and air leak prevention..
7:42 very funny
Goras Jokimčius ;) the fastest way to explain
I'm going to puy passat 2003 170hp 1,8T
If any one can give me some tap that I have to look too ?
Thank you.
There are so many problems related to this model, it will literally make you go insane.
i have the same problem
Hvala lepo imam isti problem
My skoda superb b5 also got same problem
Make sure you dried it out and replaced the pollen filter housing, you don't want to have random alarms and broken bonnet position sensor like me. When they took the platform for B5 Superbs and Passats they unfortunately inherited a common Audi issue.
I'm just about ready to put my carpets back after doing the exact same thing 🙄
I had to sell mine because of it. Couldn't fix it. Also had water coming in from behind the glovebox. probably from the AC-Unit. SUCKED ASS. I really liked that car =/
Got so bad that the Airbagsensor underneath the driverseat got covered in saltcrystals
Delinquent Motorcycle uff, sorry to hear that man
Could you do a voice over in English please as I can't understand. Thanks
I did the subtitles in english
Same shit :( I mean deep shit
same thing happened to me, same problems, same bad luck...lot's of work because of poor design by VW engineers
