PASSAT B5.5 Water leak in footwell problem
Hello,
This is my PASSAT 2.5 V6 TDI 4 Motion (180hp) that I own for almost 10 years now.
I never had any problem with water entering or leaking in the vehicle, but last friday when I came in the car to drive back home I heared a strange noise like water was flowing inside. First I thought maybe it's just the gas tank that I am hearing, but the sound was way too loud for that. So i tryed to touch the back side passenger footwell and I felt water ...
Good thing that I had a deep cleaner at home, so when I came I sucked out as much water as I could, but I already knew that the water got under the carpet floor already.
I did much searching online, here are some links to the site and videos:

So here is the procedure that I took.
I am not a professional, just like to do things on my own. The language in Slovenian, but I added subtitles to let everyone understand what is going on. In the video I showed how I dried the interior also.
Anyway hope you enjoy it, leave me a thumb up if you did, and thanks for watching.

Replace the gasket under the engine controller housing, use roofing silicone to seal the place where the hood opening cable comes out of the cabin, seal around the sheet on the door sides, cut the rubbers under the battery and under the brake servo in half with scissors, or remove

Thanks for the video! This is where I’m at with my 1999 Passat. Cleaned all the water and cleaned out the drains. Now to figure out the electrical issue that the water probably caused. No power locks, power windows, trunk or fuel door. Update: my entire footwell was flooded and frozen. Car is totaled and has been sent to the scrap yard. My first and last VW.

What language is this? At one moment I thought it was Latvian, because it has some Lithuanian words (like Todas Vietu), but then I realised it sounded kind of slavic. Is this Hungarian? Or Czech? Anyway, I had the same issue. The battery is a pain to remove in this car because the plastics get in the way. Mine flooded the ECU, it was this bad, but after four days in the sun, ECU dried and problems went away :D. This is why I love Passat. By the way, I have a little older Passat (1999, 1.9 TDI, 66KW), but the drain hole under the battery is the same. do you recommend removing that rubber in the hole in the drain hole battery? I suspect that the rubber contributes in the accumulation of dirt there.

  • @MP-mt8lc
    @MP-mt8lc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The blocked rubber drains could be the problem but none times out of ten it's not, it is actually the seal under the filter holder which you see at the end of the video. The seal breaks down and the water gets underneath it and runs down into the car. Take the filter holder out, clean of the old seal, silicone sealer around it and refit. Problem solved.

Make sure you dried it out and replaced the pollen filter housing, you don't want to have random alarms and broken bonnet position sensor like me. When they took the platform for B5 Superbs and Passats they unfortunately inherited a common Audi issue.

I had similar issue with my passenger footwell being wet ... in my 2003 B5.5 wagon or Estate. It had me so freaked out ..thankfully it was not coming from under the dash or the Cabin air filter area. Both passenger inner door panels were leaking. I had to clear door water drain holes and seal the inner door panels with silicone. It is a know issue as well.

But one day it was raining at night and the next day I noticed water, ie a smaller bar in the back seat behind the front passenger, I thought that it might not be from a window that might not have been closed properly so I cleaned it and did not even pay attention to it .. it started raining again all the windows this time and I closed this time and the next day I had something to see and the water a large amount in the back behind the passenger. No. There is electronics in the floor underneath the carpet. The transmission control unit is the main one in automatic cars. You have to remove the rubber dust grommets in the drain hole under the battery and under the plastic ECU box. That will last large things pass through the hole like leaves and not clog the hole. After I removed my grommets 3 years ago it never got clogged again.

This is a great car with a simple issue that can cause great problems. VW did a recall at one time where they would put your car up on a jack and clear your drain holes from beneath the car. My mechanic told me to take out the rubber grommet and throw it away so the hole will stay clear longer!

Omar Abdelaziz I have a 2003 1.8t Passat. Preventing water intrusion on this model is critical. The transmission control module is located under the carpet in the floor. It looks like a computer motherboard and is housed in a plastic box. The box will fill with water and ruin the computer board. You can't imagine what kinds of problems that causes. Make sure absolutely no amount of water enters the cabin.

Had the same problem a few times on my vw passat 2002, on mine one hole is under the battery tray the other one is under the brake servo. Another thing you can do is remove the four rubber grommets underneath the floor of the car so if the water does come in to the car due to the holes beaning blocked the water will drain straight out and does not hold in the foot wells, just avoid driving through any deep water has the water might come up. The first time i had this issue back in 2006 the ECU unit got water into it and i had to replace it, but since then by taken the grommets out when the car lets in water it drains straight out through the floor and i know then that it is blocked again and have to clear it out again . Apart from this problem and the door locks this is a great car, i have now had this car for 11 years but i wish i had kept my MK2 Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia x
