You mentioned that Ira has food sensitivities. My son had 32 different food sensitivities and allergies. It caused every symptom you could almost think of including rashes, gut problems, itching, bed wetting, asthma, adhd, etc. he is now a 27yo man with ZERO food sensitivities! I urge you to not just remove these foods from Ira’s diet, but to remove for about six months and then add them in one by one as a challenge phase. Give that ingredient for a few days, not just once. If he reacts again, take it out and try again in six months. But KEEP TRYING! KEEP CHALLENGING! He will likely grow out of the sensitivities but if you don’t challenge/introduce the food items then he will never tolerate them as an adolescent or adult. And that would be difficult for him! Keep at it mama! You’re doing a beautiful job!
Please believe me when I say that vaxxes are the culprit for all these food allergies. Please, you're his Mama, but please don't vaxx your baby anymore than you already have. It's proven. Organic foods, etc. It's changing lives. Please look into what I've said. Blessings and good health from the TN Smokies 🕉 Note to the salty heifers: She has a right to know so she(and anyone else) can take that info and do their research to make an informed decision.
Hmmm, great suggestion, but I just don't see Washington folks doing much caring... Maybe instead try reaching out to the big corporate manufacturers for their reasoning, though they'll likely respond that the ingredients are GRAS - "generally recognized as safe."
For cleaner you could just use vinegar with orange or lemon peels. Let that sit for about a week and you have a great cleaner. I am so happy to see that ya'll are trying to do things more naturally. Thanks for another great video. See you on the next one.
Hi Katie, I know a girl who makes her own lotion. I bought some of her hand cream and it is greasy, I put it on my hands and feet at night and wear cotton over them. It really heals my bad cracked feet and hands. God bless you.
Great job!! I add in frankincense (I'm almost 60) and it is so healing to the skin. If you let your mixture sit in the fridge until it starts to be less transparent it will whip easier. I always used my fails as shaving cream when I first started. Love homemade thieves cleaner! Thanks for sharing! Blessings!
Katie, I’m so glad you are aware of our toxic life these days. I have been making changes for quite a while, from using plastic to glass in my kitchen to personal care products to laundry soap. Keep learning.
Well, that was just fun!!! Thank you! ❤ I love making homemade cleaners, salves, lotion bars, and body butter. Katie, you and Corie have the most beautiful skin!
Katie, My youngest granddaughter had many food allergies + horrible eczema when she was born that I worried she'd have life threatening problems. Her parents are Dr's & I credit their knowledge for my granddaughter doing as well as she has. I prayed she'd eventually outgrow her allergies but 12 yrs later she hasn't. You're 100% correct 'unrefined' shea butter does smell funky... I used to make unrefined shea butter cream for another grandchild's eczema which he did outgrow. I'd make several jars & refrigerate for longevity. TY for sharing your & Ira's story.
The oil in your homemade lotion will soak into your skin after several minutes. Look at it as a chance to sit a spell while it soaks in. Since making my own lotions and oil blends I had to adjust to letting it soak in. I was so used to rubbing store bought lotion on my skin and immediately turning to the next task. My favorite is to put it on at night before bed. My hands and feet are so soft.
I made washing detergent, dry - dish washing liquid - lotion - tooth cleaner, dry - I gifted lotion to my doctor’s office manager - she asked what perfume I used and when she found out it was lotion she asked for a little bit! I am unable to make things now - I really enjoyed making them all - always try new things - it passes time and the reward is healthy, non chemical things you use everyday! ☮
Well done!!! Just another example of living off of God’s great land in Appalachia! Using the resources God has given us right out of our own yards! Prayers for you and your family 🙏✝️
I think you did great. Unrefined shea butter does have a different smell but it is great. For babies chamomile &calendula are good. There is nothing wrong with using the lavender instead of peppermint especially for children. Just keep on & tweak the recipe until you get it like you want it. it does soak into the skin but not immediately.
I'm interested in watching your progress with making the lotion. You're so right. When you read the list of ingredients in products there may be a few natural ingredients but the majority is chemicals and fillers.
Essential oils react with plastic as in starts to melt them and thieves oil is considered a hot oil with the cloves and other oils in the mix. I love essential oils!! Great job!
Yes, and Katie clearly wants to stay away from plastics as much as possible. The Dollar Industrial Complex has most life forms now internally peppered with micro plastics. Our bodies cannot handle this. And The Complex is not about to take this issue on. It is just too massive and they have gotten by with it for so long. But killer plastics are daily building up in us, our organs, and taking us down. Sooo, the more we all can share with each other creative ideas of tackling the problem ourselves the better we all will be. Katie, you have a healthy dose of those 'got get 'em' genes, in so many ways. Always nice to observe your processes. You are not surrounded by mountains for nothing!
That lotion is awesome in the winter. It only takes a small amount, but best to use before getting into pj's. By morning, your skin will be soft, not greasy at all, and totally moisturized. The fragrance of the shea will soften after being blended with the oils for a bit. Makes wonderful Christmas gifts!
Just an FYI. Azure Standard sells spray tops for canning jars. They are wonderful! About 7.00 apiece, so I buy one each month. Love that you care about these things at a young age. Keep it up!
Xanthan gum helps gluten free flours rise. Coconut flour is suuuuuper dense and dries things out - they usually say to only use 1/4 c coconut flour for 1 c flour, which then is not enough flour! You can grind up oats to make oat flour, and I have purchased sorghum flour, potato starch, and millet flour to use. We bake gluten free around here! I have used Bob's Red Mill 1:1 GF flour, but I prefer to just make my own. I'll do equal parts of the sorghum, potato and millet and just pre mix it in big batches. Then I add 1/4 t. xanthin gum for each 1 c. GF flour. Oat flour gets very gummy in baked goods. You can buy all those flours thru Azure. :) Also, you might do a little test to see if Ira can tolerate you eating homemade sourdough. My son (20 years old!!) can't tolerate any wheat products (huge stomach issues and eczema) which is why we went GF for years. We still do GF cookies, cakes, muffins, etc. However, I started making sourdough and milling hard red and hard white wheat berries (Azure again!) and use that blend with a little bit of Costco's organic all purpose flour to keep the bread fluffier. We found that the sourdough breaks down whatever was bothering him in the wheat, and makes it super digestible for him. You can do a bit of research on it for a more complete explanation. Feel free to email me if you have any questions - I bought the very first jack-o-lantern September 2023 - the one with the green eyes! So you have my email at Etsy without me telling it to all of TH-cam!!! And thanks for the cleaning recipe - looking forward to trying it!
Katie, I agree with you, so many bad chemicals in food, most everything else we use. it's causing so many health problems, ive been using keto type flour, such as almond flour, coconut flour, almond milk, coconut cream, the substitute sugars allouse substitute, monkfruit sugar. The egg substitute that you mentioned is ok there are several eggs substitute, here is one you might like ,Arrowroot powder is used more for binding and moisture, ideally for baked goods that call for another leavening agent. 3 tablespoons water + 2 tablespoons arrowroot powder = 1 egg Im not really using these items for keto purposes more for better health and health issues. Hope this helps. Keep on keeping on God bless you.
Hi Katie, I really enjoyed this video! The old saying “ nothing ventured, nothing gain”, comes to mind on your rendering of the body cream and soap. You tried and that is where it starts, because you learn what you can try next time if you feel something needs improvement. I personally liked both of what you made,I have really dry skin so I’d love that cream!🤗
Hey Katie girl!!! If you'll look up Everything Free Cookies, you'll find a recipe that I tried last year for Christmas. You'll know you're on the right one if the first ingredient is oat flour. It says to grind up oats, but I just bought a bag of oat flour. And I used pure cane sugar instead of coconut sugar. And I chose to use pure maple syrup instead of the rice syrup. They're obviously not going to taste like your typical chocolate chip cookies, but when you have dietary restrictions, they are very good. I the man that I baked these for really enjoyed them, and I think you will too!!!❤
I too much prefer natural ingredients in shampoos, body wash, etc. Maybe one day, I'll make my own. Thanks for showing us how, Katie! Many blessings to you!
Pure unrefined shea butter definitely has an “earthy” smell. You could try adding vanilla along with the lavender. Or even a citrus oil. Tallow is what is making it feel extra greasy. Apply smaller amounts when using, a little will go a long way. But tallow is so good for your skin! Loved this video and I love your quest for clean products!
Early fall I infused calendula into olive oil. I rendered tallow a few weeks ago. I will whip up some tallow and add some of my calendula oil for a lotion. I made some soap using the calendula oil and it has sat for 6 weeks so I can start using it now. Our oldest two children were very sensitive to milk proteins and I breastfed them and avoided all dairy. My son is still very sensitive as a young adult but my daughter can tolerate small amounts. It seems like food sensitivity is more prevalent all the time.
I started using the Amish soap not only to bath with but, also as shampoo. I really like it. I was unsure at first because my face is so sensitive but it’s worked great. Nice video.
You can mix vinegar, water at 50/50 then add your favorite essential oil to use as an all purpose cleaner. I like lemon grass and clean bathroom and kitchen with it.
Thank you for making this video Katie I agree with you, there is so much crap in the food we eat and the products we use. I have been trying to take the more natural approach lately. I am going to try these two recipes.😊
So glad you are making your own cleaners and lotions. I also make my own lotion and face serum. After you find a recipe you like it will not be a pleasant experience to use store bought again. I’ve ran out occasionally and used a good quality store brand which left me feeling like I was clogging up all the pores in my skin.
This video came at just the right time for me. I just made some calendula salve for the first time the other day for my herbalism class. Will need to try that lotion recipe next!
❤Happy Saturday Katie That was Interesting to Watch 😊 At least You & Your Dad. (HI MATT) 👋🏽 Gave Your TRUE HONEST OPINIONS OF EACH.. Thank You for that.. I DON'T LIKE THE SMELL OF LAVENDER at ALL. Maybe with Your Cleaner ADD more Vinegar to Reduce Streaking ?? Take Care.. GOD BLESS ❤
This was a fun video, Katie. I used to have a second business making herbal, all-natural products from the herbs I grew, and I enjoyed it so much! I just stopped by to say that it might not be the shea butter that has that off-putting smell. If you smell the container it came in and it has the same smell, it probably was the shea butter. Could you check the smell of the Vitamin E oil? I used a few drops of all-natural Vitamin E oil in my batch of lip balms. It had a strong smell but didn't affect the scent overall, as it was only a few drops. I don't know what beef tallow smells like, so I don't know if there is an effect there. Keep going and have fun! Bright blessings to all!
I have been switching products too. Not for long, but im trying to get our family away from the chemicals. Ill definitely try these. Thanks for sharing!
I stopped immediately at the muffin to comment before I forget lol. You are absolutely rocking this whole thing, navigating the food sensitivities and still being creative to make great optional recipes. Jessica at Three Rivers Homestead is a great source for Dairy free alternative recipes. One of her children has a serious dairy allergy.
Great video, Katie! Even though your results might not reflect the final goal you're looking for, this was still a really helpful tutorial! It might be a good excuse for me to get a stand mixer (I've wanted one for a while).😊Loved your outro!
Thanks Katie for sharing how wonderful essential oils and simple home products can make clean and safe products. Simply Earth is a subscription company that sends a box of oils and ingredients to make everything from soaps, creams, natural candles and lip gloss. I like to make soap. I have never tried my hand at selling soaps but I buy wonderful soap and bath salts at the Olympia Market here in Washington State. I always feel cleaner using natural products. ❤❤
Hi Katie! You probably know this, but I didn't for a long time. Lavender has estrogen promoting properties, and I've seen that Dr's recommend those with estrogen dominance (like me) and baby/little boys not use products with lavender. EO is very concentrated and is of particular concern. Maybe to compliment that "funk" from the shea butter, pairing a kid-safe chamomile EO with your calendula infused oil would work? All the best (and you're doing great)!
I used to help someone that was a massage therapist and I would help them make their own massage cream and when I would mix everything together after I melted it I found a old milkshake mixer at a thrift store and it was a excellent excellent at getting it mixed and fluffy so that may be a idea if you could find one at a thrift shop it did an amazing job at getting it all mixed and fluffy in no time at all
I have a lot of skin problems so I'm curious to see if your homemade lotion will help. Watching you today made think that Miss Cindy would be proud because she was so health conscious. You and Corie are so thoughtful and caring and such good Mommas.
Hi Katie, I really enjoy your videos :) You could maybe try chia (seed) eggs rather than flax I’ve seen that used as an egg replacement that works very well👍🏻
Also be careful with the cleaner on porous or “finished” surfaces. The vinegar can strip a finish right off. All this is a great idea for Christmas gifting! I’m gonna try it!
Thank you 🙂. Your lotion looks awesome. I make my own things as well. I use Coconut Oil soap bars. I get rashes with regular soap. It's Saponified Coconut Oil. That's the only ingredient. I cut the bars. I use it for bath & shampoo & washing dishes. And I shred it to make laundry soap. Maybe you could use your sister's homemade soap. I mix Unrefined Coconut Oil & Unrefined Shea Butter for a lotion. Just add & mix together. I don't melt them 1st but I only make small batches. The Unrefined Shea Butter I have smells nutty. It smells good. Could some Shea brands be rancid? Idk. Mine is Unrefined Ivory Shea Butter. It's more off white in color. I also use Coconut Oil by itself for lotion. Wanted to tell you in case it helps. And my son had food sensitivity also when he was a baby. Never slept well cuz he always had a stomach ache. So I understand! Take care. God's blessings to you, your little one & whole family 🤗
Use the spray bottle top and screw it on to a pellegrino bottle emptied out, since they’re glass. Off Grid with Doug and Stacy taught me that. Watch their video for a homemade citrus cleaner also.
thanks for the video. i would love to make these myself. hope you will keep making these video's. i have a problem with psoriasis on my hands so something natural would be great.
You mentioned that Ira has food sensitivities. My son had 32 different food sensitivities and allergies. How many vaccines did he have growing up?
Great advice!

Go Katie, you need to be taking your concerns to the powers in Washington! Your delivery was fierce and heartfelt, and I felt it! 🙌
Hmmm, great suggestion, but I just don't see Washington folks doing much caring... Maybe instead try reaching out to the big corporate manufacturers for their reasoning, though they'll likely respond that the ingredients are GRAS - "generally recognized as safe."
Binks gave you that cat look LOL, hes gorgeous! I love how you were bargaining with him...such a cat thing! I love cats. Be well ❤
Adding arrowroot to your lotion will make it less greasy feeling and feel more silky. It might also help it whip better.
For cleaner you could just use vinegar with orange or lemon peels. Let that sit for about a week and you have a great cleaner. I am so happy to see that ya'll are trying to do things more naturally. Thanks for another great video. See you on the next one.
I've done this and it works well and smells great

I am glad you made the cleaner, and the lotion out of natural products. I'm glad you made it, so it wouldn't hurt Ira. ❤ Give Ira a hug from me.
Well, that was just fun!!! Thank you! ❤ I love making homemade cleaners, salves, lotion bars, and body butter. Katie, you and Corie have the most beautiful skin!
This was GREAT!! I’d love to see more of these homemade products 💕🙏🙏
Thanks for watching 😁
I was laughing out loud at Binks and the muffin.

Dawn spray bottle I cleaned out for the homemade cleaner. Love it. I’ll look for glass 🫶🏻
The muffins looked delicious. Great job on the lotion and cleaner. We all just learn as we go. Hope yall have a blessed night.
Thank you! You too!

Yes, and Katie clearly wants to stay away from plastics as much as possible. The Dollar Industrial Complex has most life forms now internally peppered with micro plastics. That lotion is awesome in the winter. It only takes a small amount, but best to use before getting into pj's. By morning, your skin will be soft, not greasy at all, and totally moisturized. Wow thank you for all the info friend! 😁
Katie, I agree with you, so many bad chemicals in food, most everything else we use.
it's causing so many health problems, ive been using keto type flour, such as almond flour, coconut flour, almond milk, coconut cream, the substitute sugars allouse substitute, monkfruit sugar. I started using the Amish soap not only to bath with but, also as shampoo. I really like it. I was unsure at first because my face is so sensitive but it’s worked great. Nice video.
I’ll have to try and find some 😁
Well ---good on ya for trying! It is CRAZY what we read on labels! -much love to all of ya ~Mary & fam in NJ
That's a beautiful cat.
You can mix vinegar, water at 50/50 then add your favorite essential oil to use as an all purpose cleaner. I like lemon grass and clean bathroom and kitchen with it.
I watched this with an open mind. I don’t know much about making homemade lotion or cleaners. Thanks Katie!
Well done, Katie! You gave me confidence to try a few new concoctions myself
Thank you for making this video Katie I agree with you, there is so much crap in the food we eat and the products we use. I have been trying to take the more natural approach lately. I am going to try these two recipes.😊

😀♥️🙏
This video came at just the right time for me. I just made some calendula salve for the first time the other day for my herbalism class. Will need to try that lotion recipe next!
Glad you didn't edit your opinions on smell, I appreciate that. I tried Shea butter once and I couldn't take it 😂 ended up in my trash.
😅

Yes good idea !
If you need an egg substitute for a leavening agent try baking soda and vinegar. It’s really good and works well.
Thanks for the tip 😁
Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it, please make more of them.

Peppermint to me is soothing. I will try your recipes . Thank you for showing
Thanks for watching 😁
Great video Katie thanks for sharing 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for watching!
What a great video, thank you so much for going through the process with us.
Your cleaner made the tabletop shine. Good you are going natural ingredients. Binks made his cameo. He's so cute, we are cat people. Have 3.
Very interesting video. I like all natural products on my skin too!
Have a blessed evening.
You two young ladies are brilliant with everything you do!😉👍👍🙏🏻
Enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Wow, thanks for that info!!
Would you shoot me an email, I wanna talk more about estrogen dominance. 😁

🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼🤸🏼♂️ EXACTLY What we ALL needed to learn about!🧴🧼
I don't use lotion much, but I'd like to try making the cleaner. Thanks for the recipe! God bless!
Hi Katie, I really enjoy your videos :)
You could maybe try chia (seed) eggs rather than flax I’ve seen that used as an egg replacement that works very well👍🏻
Bless you, Katie!
Also be careful with the cleaner on porous or “finished” surfaces. The vinegar can strip a finish right off.
All this is a great idea for Christmas gifting! I’m gonna try it!
1 Tblsp ground flax seed and 2.5 Tblsp water . Mix and let sit for 10 minutes .
(Egg subsitute)
Simply making it
is another channel you may enjoy as you’re learning to make natural things :)
This is so impressive and inspiring-awesome job😀
Love this KT🫶🏻👏🏻🙏
I hope your lotion and cleaner works well.
❤❤❤❤
I really enjoyed this. Thank you!
You keep going Katie…just letting you know I’m allergic to nuts and tree nuts and also coconut 🥥 oil and coconut products
Awe man!
Give castor oil a try for your lotion. I’m not sure I would use tallow. But to each his own!
Castor oil is poisonous if taken internally... 😮
@ Yes, it is, indeed. However there are a myriad of uses for external use and these can be found with a bit of research.
Coconut oil is awesome in place of the tallow.
Use the spray bottle top and screw it on to a pellegrino bottle emptied out, since they’re glass. Off Grid with Doug and Stacy taught me that. Watch their video for a homemade citrus cleaner also.
Coconut oil would smell wonderful !
thanks for the video. i would love to make these myself. hope you will keep making these video's. i have a problem with psoriasis on my hands so something natural would be great.
since you dont love the scent of the lotion, use it on your feet for deep moisturizing
Good idea!
Love the voice over😉❤️🙏🏻
