Genuine question. If you can’t define woman and you can’t define man, how do you know the difference between temporary gender dysphoria and genuinely being trans? What’s the defining factor?
Tbh, I can't answer that question about GD or being trans bc I'm a cis woman and I've never experienced it. Being a woman or being a man doesn't define who we're as human beings. Chromosomes, genitalia and other bone structures shouldn't matter. Appearance isn't everything. Showing love and acceptance to others. Matters the most! 😯🥰
In my experience, once you realise that something is gender dysphoria, it makes a lot of sense of a lot of past emotions and discomfort you've had since puberty or younger. Like, "oh, the reason I felt so trapped and upset that time when I was 16 was because I actually have a lot of dysphoria around x, and people kept bring it up" I've not come across anyone having temporary gender dysphoria tbh, when I hear other people talk about dysphoria it's usually in the sense of "this always bothered me and now I have a name for that feeling", or "since I came out, the way people gender this part of me gives me dysphoria". The only thing getting rid of the feelings of dysphoria being affirming treatments or, depending on the thing in question, it can lessen a bit through a long introspective journey of self acceptance. Don't forget gender euphoria! Trans people have both! The medical establishment defines us by our dysphoria, but when we feel in alignment with who we are we can have great euphoria. For example, I'm transmasc, and on a night out to a metal club, I was treated as "one of the dudes" by strangers the whole night and it felt amazing!
If you're a biological male who's mentally/emotionally female, wants female sex characteristics, feels uncomfortable with having male sex characteristics, wants to live in the female gender role, feels uncomfortable being pigeonholed to the male gender role, etc. then that's what makes you a transgender female, aka a trans woman. Vice versa for trans men, and some variation of the middle for non-binary people. It's really not that hard to understand.
There's no such thing as temporary gender dysphoria. And we can define man and woman. Transphobes just don't like the answer because it doesn't let them justify their bigotry.
When someone makes a valid point and all you say is "I don't care" it just further validates what they said. It's amazing how you can know you're wrong yet refuse to believe it. What drives you can not be of good nature.
While I do think American left-liberals often impress various things onto kids that are young too quickly and easily, it's clear those talks must be had with children so that they feel neither bigotry nor shame. IMO it's best to have such talks soon before puberty, so that as they start developing interest in others, gay or bi youth doesn't feel like their interest is off, asexuals don't feel wrong for having no interest, and trans folk have a framework with which to understand themselves if their identity wasn't obvious earlier, and the courage to speak up and pursue help.

As an archaeologist the theory about digging up the bones makes me laugh so much because we are so notoriously bad at identifying sex, let alone gender. For a very long time, a triple burial from Dolni Vestonice was believed to be love triangle between a woman and two men just because the one in the center was smaller (the main way archaeologists distinguish male from female, yeah super reliable...). Turns out, DNA has revealed all of them to not only be male but also brothers. That is why archaeologists will never say they know someone's gender from the past, let alone just through their bones, they will say the can make a guess on the sex (and very often that sex assumption will turn out to be wrong because is based on bias just as much as everything else we do) but will never tell you they know someone's gender. Specially considering there were so many ancient cultures that had fluid and non-binary ideas of gender. That is absolutely ridiculous. And yes, DNA can tell you someone's sex (not gender obviously) but DNA is not as easy to find on a skeleton as most people assume, the preservation of the bones and how recent they are is critical and contamination is really easy... They seem to think archaeologists find a bone and go ah yes... the bone of a man... no, we go: OH MY GOD! A HUMAN!!!!! Let's celebrate!! Yeah, we are weird. (I am a prehistory archaeologist, if you dig more modern bones I guess that might be different)
@@NeferSonne The reasons for a mistake are the following.. “The determination of sex in human skeletal remains is often challenging for physical anthropologists when dealing with incomplete, juvenile or pathological specimens.” Source : University of London The Skeleton that was deemed female was in a pathological state with severe abnormalities/ deformities.
@@richie9878 I know it't stupid to reply a comment from youtube because you have already made up your mind and don't really care and because it would take too long anyway to explain. But well, I will give it a try. The case of Dolni Vestonice is a good example to showcase this problem because it exemplifies the problems with archaeological ways of sexing skeletons. Basically, in that case, the first things they did is use contextual clues, which is what archaeologists usually do, this was a triple burial and the one in the centre had some ochre on it's pelvis, for that reason it was believed it was a female that had either died in childbirth or something in those lines. Then, to reinforce their ideas, they use studies on the bones, for that they notice the bones are smaller and have a pathology that is usually seen in females. Archaeologists will look at averages of females and male sizes to determine the sex of a skeleton which has the obvious problems, as well as look at the skull and pelvis, which have minimal variation that vary within a spectrum also. For that reason, even forensic anthropologists looking at modern complete skeletons can't almost never tell the sex of a skeleton, they can make a guess usually within 60-70% probability, but that is all it is. Unless they already know or they can use context clues to try to get closer to the answer. I hope that helps. My point is the reasoning for Dolni Vestonice was: from the context clues of the burial seems like it might be a women and then look at the bones, which in that case was wrong. The idea that transphobes like to spread "when archaeologists look at your bones they will say you are a man" or whatever is just not true. The closest we can get is an assumption and we look at context clues, so the idea that we just look at the bones and are able to tell what sex the skeleton used to be is just an exaggeration propagated by TV shows and media in general, also, archaeologists know about the differences between sex and gender which is why context clues are so important.
@@NeferSonne “The material was examined separately by an experienced and an inexperienced physical anthropologists. Sex was correctly estimated by the experienced anthropologist in 100% of individuals using all of the 16 pelvic and cranial criteria. In fact, sex differences in pelvic morphology were large enough to allow sexing the individuals with 100% accuracy. Among seven features observed on the pelvic bones, the least reliable single sex indicator was the width of the great sciatic notch (with accuracy of 79.15%). Looking at the skull alone, sex was correctly determined in 70.56% cases. It was shown that the most accurate single indicators among cranial methods was the robustness of the mandible (with accuracy of 70.93%), while the sharpness of the supraorbital margins was the least reliable indicator demonstrating accuracy in only 28.75% of crania. Examination of the sample by an individual with training in physical anthropology, but no case experience, suggests that experience is likely to contribute moderately to the accuracy of the sex determination. Namely, the inexperienced anthropologist accurately assessed the sex of the sample 95.04% of the time; 4.06% less accurate than the experienced anthropologist. “ Source The reliability of sex determination of skeletons Marija Durić et al. Nope. I disagree with your viewpoint. "What if a woman can't make babies?" What about it? She's still a woman. So what, you think once a woman reaches 50 or so, beyond childbearing years, she stops being a woman? Please. Based off of the few comments I'm reading, it looks like I'm not the only one who disagrees with your viewpoint. How many people have to disagree with you before you consider you might be wrong?
it's not that really, it's that Matt already mentioned that a woman is someone with FEMALE reproductive organs, and how it goes all the way down to your DNA. I really do not know why or how both sides are forgetting that he mentioned this, considering it was a structural part of his argument.
Even if the ovaries or the uterus don't work (or exist) there are still other biological traits that make you a woman like vulva, breasts, hormones, chromosomes, DNA... The malfunction of organs who should normally work don't change the sex or gender. I hate this non argument, it's like saying a human without arms is not a human.

If I held up a Barbie doll and said, "This is a woman," and referred to it with female pronouns, it'd be nearly impossible to find a conservative who would protest, even though it has no female genitalia, no XX chromosomes and no estrogen, because it's literally just a hunk of plastic. Plastic which you could melt down, remold into a Ken doll, and call a man and refer to with male pronouns, again, all without any conservatives protesting. That's the world we're living in: hunks of plastic have more of a right to their own gender than living human beings do.
I have watched the entire video. I will say that popularity and popular opinion is overrated, and listening to what a crowd thinks in a debate is not a good indicator of a strong or weak argument. Actions such as clapping, booing, heckling, or anything else related to that, doesn't tell whether or not something is true and it is a logical fallacy to rely on popularity. Also, these actions often distracts people from the arguments being said. Only arguments that are adequate and internally coherent are considered strong arguments. I am here to listen to a different perspective and nothing more. With respect, I strongly disagree. Thank you.

I am not just a woman, I'm also a writer and a fishkeeper, a partner and a friend and the child of my awesome mother. If people look at me and only see a woman, not a person, then I don't want to associate with them from the start. I don't look at a man or a woman and see just that, I see their personalities. @@ShadowWizard you have those same problem with traditional singular pronouns: "Mary loved Tanja. She always made sure the two of them were safe." Who is she? Also, "you" is also a pronoun, just 2nd and not 3rd person. In English both singular and plural 2nd person pronouns are the same. This can be quite confusing when you're in a group, but you manage by specifying "you guys" or "y'all" or simply reading the context of the conversation such as body language. Pronouns are used to define someone's gender in the social sphere. Gender is rooted in and derives from biological sex and was created to be used in the social sphere and with gender roles. So to imply that you can somehow change your pronouns or create new ones is absurd because it is basic grammar and grammar, like gender, is not a social construct that was created by society for society. Gender (and in this case, the grammar that defines it in common speaking, e.g. pronouns) were created to define science, and in this case, the science being the biological makeup of a male and female.
@@chibu3972 yes, language and grammar are scientific, that’s why every language on earth is a exactly the same and hasn’t changed at all for the whole time human beings have spoken and written. Oh wait Edit: fixed a mistake (:
I am a woman, but I am comfortable with any pronouns. I don't consider myself trans, but I support the trans community. Especially as a younger child I was very masculine, and many people assumed I was a boy, which made me uncomfortable. Assuming people's gender is harmful *whether they are trans or not.*
I'm a man and someone assumed I'm a woman. But I just didn't care because I have better things to worry about. You can call me a woman all day all night, I don't give a shit. Just lemme go get my bourbon. The only time I think about my manhood is when I see my beard in the mirror. Rest of the time, I'm just doing what I do (Stay calm and make her moan).
Kinda same, like she/her is always my most comfortable r term and jsut who I am you know, but I don’t feel any like dysphoria/euphoria if someone says he/him or they/them to me. I’ll just find it a little weird, and move along my day.
last time i checked laughing isn't a valid response in a debate.. and if you disagree then im going to just laugh and that automatically makes me win...
Laughing like that is to try to release the tension that built up because he/she/they/it couldn't define a woman. It's really a nervous tell that happens when someone is extremely uncomfortable with the tension and has no real response to the argument, hence the term "laugh it off".
they werent just “laughing it off” they were giving valid arguments and matt was just repeating the same outdated opinions and he refuses to acknowledge that things have changed and that what theyre saying is backed up by science
He stated the science, it boils down to science he was saying u can FEEL HOWEVER U WANT everybody loves cosplay and Halloween. But if u have xx chromosomes your a woman and xy your a man. The problem with the PRETENDING he/she/they/it person is if they can't even tell u what a woman is, how can they be 1? Gender fluid is eggs and sperm, not being able to switch whenever u want. Sorry, no hate at all, u can feel any way you want to, but teaching young people there are NO RULES to ANYTHING, EVER, is a VERY BAD THING for this world. We should be sympathetic to everyone battling INNER DEMONS by TEACHING them how to navigate in this CRUEL WORLD, not coddling everyone and FORCING THE WORLD to play along. Sorry child u can't change your sex, but let me teach you how to SHAPE your world and get what u want from it. @@GnoTheo Something being simple to understand doesn't make it true. The idea that god spoke everything into existence is pretty simple to understand. But that doesn't mean the creation story in Genesis is true. The fact is that gender is not a simple subject. But people like Matt Walsh want to treat it as simple. Let's use gravity as an example. Newton came along with his ideas. Later on Einstein demonstrated that gravity isn't as simple as Newton thought. That of course doesn't mean that Newton was 100% wrong. He just didn't understand how complicated gravity can be. Same with gender. Matt's views aren't 100% wrong. But there is a whole lot that they leave out. When teaching things to children you start with simple explanations that they can grasp. As they are better able to understand things you bring in more of the complicated details. When teaching a child about evolution you wouldn't explain the complexities of DNA, mutations, genetic drift ETC. A line from the movie Independence Day comes to mind "That's not entirely accurate".
@@jennoscura2381 I think I can understand the concept of feminine man and masculine woman, but that does not make them a man nor a woman. Matt’s tomato plant analogy makes sense to me because even if I feel like a tomato plant, I’d still be a human. I agree that your feeling has certain validity, I believe you feel as a woman if you say so. But that does not mean I believe you are a woman just because you feel like one… I mean what even is a woman anyways. Women are people who identify as women, which are people who identify as women, which are people who identify as women… I mean that is not the way we define any other concepts.
Matt Walsh absolutely obliterated those two so hard that they had claimed the show caused them mental health issues, they had the network pull the episode lmao! What show did you watch? We are clearly living in alternative realities to have come to two different conclusions about that discussion if that is your takeaway.
Things in this video were explained/defended very poorly and without proper care as to the argument. I do understand I am seeing this video months late, but if you're interested in a different explanation here is mine. 1- What defines a woman?/What is a woman? The question isn't as easy to answer as said, but also not as difficult as it was on the show. Truthfully, we cannot define a woman, just like we cannot define a man. There isn't one factor that all women have that would define them as one; Not all women can be pregnant (Infertile), not all women want to be perceived as women, not all women have ovaries/vaginas (Vaginal Agenesis), not all women can produce milk for an offspring (Mammary Hypoplasia) and not all women have brains that differ from men (Transgender ftm brain structure studies). Yet, no one says a woman can't be a woman if they apply to any of those, right? So in simple terms: A woman is anyone who genuinely identifies as a woman. 2- Genuine Identification. Identifying as something doesn't work if you don't genuinely identify in that why. For example, a tomato plant. No one genuinely identifies as a tomato plant. Ridiculous items and animals are always used to ask the question "what if I identify as a [item/animal]?", but they're only used to make no matter the answer sound stupid. Items and animals are not genders. Your gender cannot be something that isn't on the actual gender spectrum. (Google: Gender Spectrum) If you genuinely identify as a tomato plant.. you feel as if you were meant to be born as one, you feel wrong unless you are one, then you do you. Just give me your pronouns and it won't be any of my business what you say you identify as. If you have any questions I will do the best of my ability to answer them. (Edit: grammar)
@@cookiemeninja4002 A human can be born with with 6 toes, three arms etc but that does make them subjective as what a human is, they are objectively a human. In nature, there exists abnormalities but those abnormalities do not erase the of that the biological differences that exist and are scientific fact. A person born with hair covering 100% of their body does not make them an bear, they are still human. Same with your argument, a women that is born without ovaries, still make them a women. Just because of abnormalities exist in nature does mean that men can now be women and that women can now be a men.
@@biggreen9845 Yes, you are right, but also wrong. Genders are not as easy to identify as someone's sex. A gender cannot really be defined. You could say a woman Is a gender usually considered feminine. You could say a woman Is usually someone born with a vagina. Yet all these exclude some variant. To explain it a bit better, a cisgendered woman could get a Hysterectomy or Oophorectomy and still be considered a woman. A woman could be born with a penis and vagina (intersex) and still be a woman. These normal things and the conditions I named in my earlier comment remove parts that people say "Make a woman". Instead of the label changing when you change, like gaining the ability to see after being blind (Molyneux's Problem Phenomenon) or something as simple as growing up. Those labels change when you change, no matter how rare/ complicated or common. When you grow you go from a fetus, baby, toddler, kid, tween, teen, adolescence to adult. If you're blind and gain the ability to see you go from the label Blind to Sighted. The point I was explaining was labels usually change for the slightest things, but when it comes to what a woman is it's such an undefined term. The word Woman is without identifying factors. Women do not have a factor that would correctly identify all women, meaning the word Woman is unidentifiable. So there is no way to identify a woman without someone identifying as a woman. The word woman cannot define someone, but someone can define as a woman. A woman is a woman if they identify as one. Woman cannot be Men. If you are a woman that means you identify as one, you cannot identify as a woman and be a man. You can identify as a woman and be a woman or identify as a man and be a man. If you're talking about sex, that's what transitioning is for. People get bottom surgery and top surgery to change their sex. If people deny them the ability to transition, then some more women will not have vaginas, but they are still women.
@@cookiemeninja4002You're completely wrong. "Woman" is and has always been very clearly defined physically/biologically and unambiguously. A woman is a female adult individual of the human species. Assuming you know what "adult" and "human species" means, you only need to define female. Again, very easy to define. It is defined in relation to sexual reproduction, which is the biological mechanism through which most multicellular organisms reproduce, including humans. Species that exhibit sexual reproduction have individuals split into two categories, called sexes, determined by their role in reproduction. As such, we define "female" as the category of individuals of a certain species that produces egg cells. The "male" is defined as the other category that produces sperm cells. The egg and the sperm cell are the respective gametes of the two sexes, female and male, which are the only two sexes in any species that reproduces sexually on planet Earth, that we know of. Whether an individual produces eggs or sperm is down to their reproductive system, which is clearly distinct from male to female in very particular ways. As such, even if an individual's reproductive system is non-functional or incomplete, we can still tell which sex they are by the respective parts of the reproductive system that they do have. Similar to how you can see a broken down car in a scrapyard, with no wheels, no seats, no windows and no steering wheel. It doesn't take you from point A to point B, yet it is clearly a non-functional car. It is not a non-functional fridge, or a non-functional washing machine. The only cases where ambiguity exists is when people are born intersex, with both male and female reproductive organ parts, which makes it difficult to tell the sex of the individual. In all other cases there is no ambiguity. In every single case, you can undeniably tell, based only on physical facts, if an individual is male or female, or intersex. And I will add that intersex is not a 3rd type of sex, since sexes are defined as categories that come together for sexual reproduction to work. Intersex has no role in that, and it does not have it's own special 3rd type of gamete. Intersex is not a 3rd sex, it's a mix of the 2 sexes that exist. Let me just put into perspective how stupid your induced ambiguity is. Let let me try to define a dog: a dog is an animal of unspecified size, with an ambiguous number or paws, might have a tail or not, undefined number of eyes, ears, teeth, might have a snout or not, could or could not be covered in fur, might have up to two heads, or even more. See how stupid it is? How do you differentiate a dog from a cow or a cat or a bear? You'd be forced to define all of them like that just because of a few exceptional birth defects. Uh, we can't know what a dog, or a cat is, unless we ask them, but then again we can't ask them either so we will never know if an animal is a dog or not.
Up until 5 years ago, NO ONE cared about pronouns. So yes, why should I care about your self-expression that I have no part in? I will call you by your name and that is all. Pronouns are used to simplify language. Why do you refuse to do something that costs you nothing and only has a positive impact? As for your three sentences, there’s no way to tell, which I guess was supposed to be the “gotcha moment.” “They” can be used both in singular and plural. It is kind of hard to laugh off Matt Walsh's position when the opposition give a very ambiguous definition of womanhood. Only the opposition (your side) cares about all the nuisances of gender and gender Identity. To the rest of the world it is the same fucking thing. If you at least want to take the opposition off guard, as least try to come up with a concrete definition of male and female. As for you Samantha, if you were exactly the same as " CIS WOMAN" (or I will just say a real woman), you wouldn't have had to of paid thousands of dollars for both bottom and top surgery. Yes, you may think like a woman, and pass for a woman etc. 80% of time, the sex you were born as vs transitioned to makes no fucking difference. HOWEVER, legitimate issues comes about for things like sports or much more importantly jail, when trying to ignore the biological realities that a trans woman is hormonally and physiologically much different then biologically being born female, especially for those who have not fully transitioned. If you had a Trans woman (who hasn't transitioned even if on hormones) convicted of raping females, would you really advocate for allowing said individual to go to a female prison just because said individual identifies as a woman?
Don't forget about the hormones that trans people pay for. Real women don't need to be on hormones to appear/be feminine, and if they do need it, it's usually later on in life for other reasons related to health and an imbalance of those hormones. People can call themselves whatever they want, but their sex will never change no matter what they do to their bodies.
Legit. If gender and sex is different and you fight so hard to differentiate it, then why are you trying to appear as if your sex is the same as your gender? Sounds a whole lot like hypocrisy from the trans.
Its all financially driven by immoral doctor and drug companies, they know that supporting everything trans is gonna bring in more long term money. Someone who is trans has to be on whatever pills they need for the rest of their lives, including constant medical care for elective procedures. Its a steady flow of money. Hence there never seems to be any push back once someone decides to go down the road of transitioning.
This is the product of single motherhood. Once fathers stopped being around to be like "wtf are you talking about? You're a boy/girl!" that's when it all went to hell.... I'd love to see a study of how many trans people grew up in a traditional 2 parent home where the father is the actual head of the household.
They did answer. Matt Walsh said "What is a a woman?" They said "Since being a woman means different things for different people and I do not indetify as one I can not answer" Which means there is no solid definition to them but your and Matt's frustration was there was no simple answer. Is just like if I said "Whats a hammer?" And you said "A tool used to drive nails through a board" then if I used a back end of a screwdriver to drive a nail through a board does it make it a hammer?
He’s making a point that if you get a DNA test that says you are for e.g. a man but mentally believe you are a woman, transition, whatever, that doesn’t make you a woman. You can dress like a woman whatever it’s fine but you are a man.

I do understand I am seeing this video months late, but if you're interested in a different explanation here is mine. 1- Language Change. Feeling uncomfortable to a language change is completely normal. It is ok to feel overwhelmed or confused when it comes down to it. What isn't ok is refusing to learn the reasoning behind it and hurting people with it on purpose. As long as you aren't doing those things, you're completely fine. It's alright to mess up, it's alright to be confused and ask for answers. No one should be forcing you to be instantly ok with a language change or expect you to be familiar with it immediately. 2- What defines a woman?/What is a woman? You do understand that's more or less the point, right? Trying to pinpoint a definition only locks being a woman or man into specific societal criteria and creates problems when those who don't fit those criteria try to express themselves. If someone's gender identity is a woman or man or non-binary and they tell you that in earnest, just believe them. They don't have to fit your particular definition of a woman or man or be completely androgynous because those societal standards that define gender have always been changing and continue to change, not to mention they are different within different cultures.
@@dal4pals684 They always seem to obsess over defining what a woman is though. I rarely ever see all these people, or even transmen obsessing over defining what a "man" is to begin with. The whole thing just feels so one-sided in modern-day discourse. Not to mention, your entire argument is why I don't believe gender even exists outside societal constructs anyway. Most of these societal constructs were never really fair towards women in the traditional sense either. I can see why it bothers so many that "woman" is being defined off of questionable standards and characteristics that were mainly determined for them by men, going back over the course of centuries. Liking dresses, wearing pink (which wasn't even always considered feminine), wearing makeup, etc. none of that stuff is inherent to being a woman to begin with. Non-binary itself is redundant, as in order to affirm non-binary as a legitimate gender -- which itself is not actually outside the binary but as rather falls on the spectrum between the two binaries -- you have to believe that non-NBs present or are comfortable and/or stereotypical in the presentation of their genders to begin with. Although it's probably not intentional, many aspects of the current self-IDing aspect of trans identities acts at the expense of the previous notion of wanting to move away from all of these strict categorizations of the human condition to begin with.

12:20 you just use more words to say "woman is a woman". You did not explain the term at all. If gender and sex are different things then you cannot explain one by another. If there is gender, sex and gender identity, then you should explain what woman means in each of those concepts. Let me try to do that: In sex it is obviously biological classification, in gender it is social constructed norms and behaviours (difficult to define and quite changeable, what was restricted to one gender is not anymore) and in gender identity it is everything you feel it is (not possible to define at all). Which in my opinion makes gender identity useless concept. For us it is impossible to know how someone else is feeling, we can only guess it, and we do that. I can guess that because of what I look it is more probably that I feel similar to the other human being than to the different mammal. It is also more probably that I feel more like the other mammal than like some insect or fish. I cannot know that for sure because I cannot test it, but I assume that. And by this logic it is more probably that I feel more like someone whose biological sex is same as mine. That's why I believe gender identity is a useless concept. I'm surely capable to convince myself that I feel like the other sex and believe that it is how they feel, but that is much more probable that because of my biological sex, I feel more like someone with the same biological sex as mine.
Maybe educate yourself about the brain of transpeople and how it aligns with their identity, and you might get some actual and factual insight and be less of a m0r on
Hello Samantha. I have a some questions for understanding. The first is I was confused with your answer that a woman is the gender that is typically associated with the female sex. If it means what is stereotypically associated to woman, why have stereotypes? Aren't people trying to move away for stereotypes to more include people's different experiences? Why wouldn't it be better if no one identified as a woman or man for that matter? Secondly, as a person who is not trans, we can easily see trans people as people who want everyone to see them as they see themselves. For example, people should see you as a woman because that's how you see yourself. But we also see different see people who identify as other things. I've seen someone identify themselves as a cat, another as a dragon, and another person, who was born white, but identifies as black. How should we distinguish when we should recognize how someone identifies themselves from when they're delusional? This is also assuming that the people who identify as a cat, dragon, a black person, etc. would call us bigots if we didn't agree them. And lastly, I don't understand (again, because I'm not trans) why a person would want to transition. We are getting to the point (if we're not there already) where men and women have the same opportunities. And certain things that women can do, like get pregnant, a man can never do, even if they transitioned to a woman. What would be an advantage to anyone transitioning? Furthermore, if the patriarchy currently exists, it would then make sense if a woman transitioned to a man, but not as much a man transitioning to a woman. Why would a trans woman make themselves a further oppressed group? I'm not here to throw shade. I'm trying to understand from an actual trans person. Thanks

as a transperson, 1. i define woman as someone who is confortable with the female body (whether they have the ability to reproduce or not). the "stereotypical" behavior is a result of the dissassociation between one and their birth sex, not the latter. 2. i have seen people who use mew/meow pronouns and such, but these are never used in professional settings. these labels often come from people with neurodivergencies (which i can also talk about from personal experience!!), but its very different from being transgender. you see, this is why i am not fond of the word "identify", since it confuses people into believing you can be whatever object you apparently percieve yourself as, when this is not the case. also, unlike gender, race presents as categorised (often physical) traits that are socially constructed and understood. you cant inherit your gender, this is internal and something individual to you, but you do inherit the social construct of race. there is also much more to one’s racial identity than physical appearance, its also about culture, community, connection and even trauma. 3. i really want to transtition. you see, heres where the issue boils down: you are willing to go through this process being dysphoria is real pain. its not about "advantages", it is about easing that pain. by the looks of it, you dont understand what being trans really means, and thats understandable. imagine that every day of your life, you are called a nickname that you know isnt true about yourself. you know yourself and therefore do not recognize it anywhere within you. youve rejected it since you were first assigned it at a young age and have changed your behavior to try andget people to get the hint. yet, everyone says its true because of their perception of you, you are now solidly defined by this false label. i mean, why would you want to go through the trouble of chaning everyone's view of you? its not like theres anything wrong, right? and it would just be a hassle. thats the sort of flawed argument youre posing here, one would be willing to go through with that change despite the difficulties posed in the way. now, imagine that its not a silly nickname, but gender, in which youre forced to wear certain clothes, addressed as certain labels, and treated as something you are not, all just because of an assumption based on a biased observation. no one is looking to find an upper hand in society, only identity fulfillment. thats why, how about we start by erasing the oppression in the first place? i hope this helped clear things up, and i think its great to ask. its much worse to remain confused in fear of offending someone. after all, you may end up hurting someone regardless.
"If youre not sure, ask someone what their pronouns are". So if I see a girl that looks remotely masculine, you want me to ask that woman what her pronouns are? Should I set up a weekly meeting in the HR office, too? Thats insane. Im sure woman would love me asking them what pronouns they prefer.
That whole preposition that you have to ask is very offensive and even selfish. Like try to ask a man if he maybe prefers a "she". That's disrespectful.

Out of morbid curiosity, I went to Matt Walsh's youtube channel, and, in his intro video, he lays out his position very clearly: He's doesn't think trans-women should be called women, because he doesn't want to have sex with them. (face palm)
It it is not in anyway contradictory for someone to hold these two beliefs. “Gays are people who are actually attracted to the opposite gender” = gay people are respectable to that person “Transgenders are not actually the gender they claim to be and are just deluding themselves” = transgenders are not respectable to that person What are you even trying to say by this? his point was whatever gender(social characteristic of woman) activities he does thinking hes a woman, doesnt change the fact that hes still a boy. but i like what you focused/got tripped on. if gender identity is not the gender(characteristics(actions, thoughts)) and not sex(biology) how does one determine a gender identity? just because they say they are?
A woman is an adult who identifies themselves as belonging to the female gender. If that sounds circular, I'll have to define gender. I hope you are actually just curious. (also the opposite of trans woman is cis woman. both are real women) Genders are just a type category for how society treats someone. Society treats each gender differently in a number of ways. These genders (in most cultures) came about as 1:1 with biological sex, but there is no reason why they have to be. Some people would rather not be in the gender category that matches their sex, so they identify as a different one and tell society to treat them as such. Thus, anyone who chooses to tell society to treat them as a part of the female gender is a woman. Now I can't give a strict biological answer because gender is a social construct. Society developed the male and female genders, so the only way to define them would be to list what society expects of them. That's not really that useful. Hope this helped!
@@swisscheeseplease97 No, that's sex. "Woman" refers to gender. I think this distinction is pretty clear even if you ignore trans people. Why are you defining physical sex by just reproductive organs? Physical sex involves a lot of different components, like chromosomes and secondary sex characteristics. People born without reproductive organs can still be part of a sex. So your definition doesn't even define "female".

You don’t have your female reproductive organs anymore, but for the 1st 20+ years of your life you did. Female reproductive organs do not occur naturally inside a male body and do not belong there. That’s the difference.
I made a point to offer my daughter choice in clothing and toys. Her father and I would shop from both the girl's and the boy's sections to she could get a variety of colours and styles.
Like, "oh, the reason I felt so trapped and upset that time when I was 16 was because I actually have a lot of dysphoria around x, and people kept bring it up"
I've not come across anyone having temporary gender dysphoria tbh, when I hear other people talk about dysphoria it's usually in the sense of "this always bothered me and now I have a name for that feeling", or "since I came out, the way people gender this part of me gives me dysphoria".

So if there is a complete intact skeleton you telling me you couldn’t determine if they where male or female? Cap lol
@@richie9878 The example I gave is from a complete skeleton.
@@NeferSonne
The reasons for a mistake are the following..
“The determination of sex in human skeletal remains is often challenging for physical anthropologists when dealing with incomplete, juvenile or pathological specimens.”
Source : University of London
The Skeleton that was deemed female was in a pathological state with severe abnormalities/ deformities.

I've never PERSONALLY, in real life, have met a trans woman to ever claim their experience as a woman is the exact same as a cis woman. And I honestly don't agree with anyone, ally or trans, who claims that. Most trans people acknowledge that their experiences are vastly different, with a few similarities, but their identity is still valid.
THAT I support because I know that my unique experiences as a cis woman growing up do not define ME as a woman. I don't want my whole identity to even BE a woman. I am not just a woman, I'm also a writer and a fishkeeper, a partner and a friend and the child of my awesome mother. If people look at me and only see a woman, not a person, then I don't want to associate with them from the start. I don't look at a man or a woman and see just that, I see their personalities. Their wants, their needs, their flaws.
And, quite frankly, I really don't f***ing appreciate a straight, white cis man, who has said some very sexist things in the past, trying to white knight 'for woman.' He doesn't care about women and, in fact, he hates femineity and thinks we're the weaker sex. He has openly said he will not let his son be feminine in any way, and you can take three guesses as to why. He as recently said it's okay for teenage GIRLS to get pregnant, as long as they get married afterwards. He just hates trans people more than any other group of people, so he is willing to try and fear monger to get his own way. He's a snake, plain and simple. He only ever says half-truths, if not straight up lies.
Though I wish they picked different people to represent the trans side of the argument, if you can call it that. They seriously did not practice and think up potential questions before going on? That's debate 101, c'mon.
Exactly, it's a strawman. They hear "trans women are women" and think that means trans women are saying they had the exact same experience as your wife, or your daughter, or your mom. That they have to have those same experiences to be a woman. To add to your first comparison, I've never even met a cis woman who claims her experience being a woman is the EXACT same as any other cis woman. That's why when you get down to it, it really doesn't matter whether you're trans or cis, women are women. It's about what you do and who you want to be seen as. It's not a competition about who's experienced the most trauma or who can be the "best" woman. Once you add those caveats, you start excluding cis women too.

@@ShadowWizard you have those same problem with traditional singular pronouns:
"Mary loved Tanja. She always made sure the two of them were safe."
Who is she?
In court you need to be way more specific anyway. Like "the defendant" "the perpetrator" and so on. So specific your words leave no room for interpretation.
Also, "you" is also a pronoun, just 2nd and not 3rd person. In English both singular and plural 2nd person pronouns are the same. This can be quite confusing when you're in a group, but you manage by specifying "you guys" or "y'all" or simply reading the context of the conversation such as body language.
And as I am sure you know "you" being both singular and plural is a relatively new development. Before that, the 2nd person singular pronoun was "thou".
Language is constantly changing, getting influenced by society and influencing it in turn.
@@ShadowWizard before realising that I'm trans, I didn't think pronouns were all that important, I did try to respect them but didn't think anyone would actually hear the wrong pronouns being used for them. But since coming out I have noticed how many times people refer to you by any sort of pronouns when you're right there. It's quite a lot, and the fact that I don't "pass" makes for a lot of uncomfortable moments for me.

@@cookiemeninja4002 your brainwashed

My best friend is a trans man, and I remember when people started using he/him pronouns for him and he got so happy that he gave me a hug out of pure joy. Why do you refuse to do something that costs you nothing and only has a positive impact?
As for your three sentences, there’s no way to tell, which I guess was supposed to be the “gotcha moment.” “They” can be used both in singular and plural. Doesn’t matter if it’s a little confusing, you use it all the time to refer to people in singular.

I don't think you should be so vitriolic against Lux. Lux isn't a bad person.

Feeling uncomfortable to a language change is completely normal. It is ok to feel overwhelmed or confused when it comes down to it. What isn't ok is refusing to learn the reasoning behind it and hurting people with it on purpose. As long as you aren't doing those things, you're completely fine.

“I dont assume” continues with an assumption..
Thanks
Honestly could you tell me the difference between a man who identify as a woman or a white guy identify as a black man?
@@FabriceLabako there was a case of a white woman who thinks she is black. she dyed her skin black, talked like the style of black people, changed everything about her to make it appear she is a black person. she is just convinced that she was a black person and not white. just google it.
@@NeR012 i know who you're talking about Rachel Dolezal. I'm a 29 year old black man and you can't "feel" black you just are. I just don't get a sunburn but that's it.
@@FabriceLabako call me crazy but kids dont usually say "im black" (if theyre white) or "im white" (if theyre black) at the age gender dysphoria first presents its symptoms
as a transperson,
1. i define woman as someone who is confortable with the female body (whether they have the ability to reproduce or not). the "stereotypical" behavior is a result of the dissassociation between one and their birth sex, not the latter.
2. i have seen people who use mew/meow pronouns and such, but these are never used in professional settings. these labels often come from people with neurodivergencies (which i can also talk about from personal experience!!), but its very different from being transgender. you see, this is why i am not fond of the word "identify", since it confuses people into believing you can be whatever object you apparently percieve yourself as, when this is not the case. also, unlike gender, race presents as categorised (often physical) traits that are socially constructed and understood. you cant inherit your gender, this is internal and something individual to you, but you do inherit the social construct of race. there is also much more to one’s racial identity than physical appearance, its also about culture, community, connection and even trauma.
3. i really want to transtition. you see, heres where the issue boils down: you are willing to go through this process being dysphoria is real pain. its not about "advantages", it is about easing that pain. by the looks of it, you dont understand what being trans really means, and thats understandable. imagine that every day of your life, you are called a nickname that you know isnt true about yourself. you know yourself and therefore do not recognize it anywhere within you. youve rejected it since you were first assigned it at a young age and have changed your behavior to try andget people to get the hint. yet, everyone says its true because of their perception of you, you are now solidly defined by this false label. i mean, why would you want to go through the trouble of chaning everyone's view of you? its not like theres anything wrong, right? and it would just be a hassle. thats the sort of flawed argument youre posing here, one would be willing to go through with that change despite the difficulties posed in the way. now, imagine that its not a silly nickname, but gender, in which youre forced to wear certain clothes, addressed as certain labels, and treated as something you are not, all just because of an assumption based on a biased observation. no one is looking to find an upper hand in society, only identity fulfillment. thats why, how about we start by erasing the oppression in the first place?
i hope this helped clear things up, and i think its great to ask. its much worse to remain confused in fear of offending someone. after all, you may end up hurting someone regardless.

What a doofus lol
That is a lie.

That person literally just went ‘I’m transphobic, but that doesn’t mean I’m homophobic’ like ??? Okay? Lol
It it is not in anyway contradictory for someone to hold these two beliefs.
“Gays are people who are actually attracted to the opposite gender” = gay people are respectable to that person
“Transgenders are not actually the gender they claim to be and are just deluding themselves” = transgenders are not respectable to that person
What are you even trying to say by this?
In your perfect world are people just *not allowed* to dislike any aspect of the lgbt coalition??
@@cringeinhibitors6306 I wasn’t saying someone can’t hold these two beliefs. Trust me I know transphobic gay people exist. I was commenting on how ridiculous it is to think that not being homophobic makes someone’s transphobia less harmful or relevant. Regardless of how you feel about other parts of the community if you are transphobic you are transphobic and that is shitty.
Also it’s not about being “allowed”. If someone dislikes an entire group of people just for existing, they are being bigoted and narrow minded. If they speak or act from those views in any way they contributing to an oppression which results in a lot of pain, suffering, and death.

Because it's so obvious that he'd disown his child for doing something feminine or worse, using PRONOUNS 😱
Would you assume someone's racist because they make a ton of videos about hating black people? It's a similar concept of correct assumptions. You know that person's motives and how they feel about a certain topic so you'd expect them to react in some way if their child,as young as 5, goes against their own agenda and what they believe in to be "fact"
She has made a coupke videos on matt walsh and you can tell by the way he talks about girls and boys that he thinks in the very stereotypical way. In his documentary for example he said "give my son a bb-gun [i dont know how to spell that] and thats all the emotional support he needs"

his point was whatever gender(social characteristic of woman) activities he does thinking hes a woman, doesnt change the fact that hes still a boy. but i like what you focused/got tripped on. if gender identity is not the gender(characteristics(actions, thoughts)) and not sex(biology) how does one determine a gender identity? just because they say they are?

So, what is a woman? Just curious. And why did you label this “Trans woman reacts” if you are real woman…what ever that is.
Because she's a trans woman and reacting to a moron spew nonsense at two enbies.
A woman is an adult who identifies themselves as belonging to the female gender.
If that sounds circular, I'll have to define gender. I hope you are actually just curious. (also the opposite of trans woman is cis woman. both are real women)
Genders are just a type category for how society treats someone.
@@pawa4869 a woman is an adult human female. Born with a vagina, and female reproductive organs. I’m sorry. It’s as simple as that.

Yeah I have PCOS which is incredibly common among women, and though I'm cis, some of my physical features are more androgynous. These bigots just can't conceive anything but basic ideas in black and white terms.
You don’t have your female reproductive organs anymore, but for the 1st 20+ years of your life you did. Just because those organs are no longer in your body doesn’t mean that they never belonged in your body (unlike the male body). Female reproductive organs do not occur naturally inside a male body and do not belong there. That’s the difference.
