  • Made in Nigeria: The Unexplored Vintage Car industry is a short documentary about vintage cars that existed in Nigeria some years back. Auto collectors spend massive sums on the purchase of retro cars. It's not surprising because every such car is a separate part of history, a symbol of the glory of previous owners. We hope to build a culture of vintage cars in Nigeria. This Video was shot at different locations in Lagos state Nigeria, particularly Victoria island and Eko Atlantic. Do like, watch and enjoy.

Poverty? People on welfare are wealthier than Nigerian workers.
Nigerians should all be very wealthy. But Nigeria's oil and oil profits flow West. And if they complain, Boko Haram, a covert CIA operation, shows up and guns them down.
Anyway. Even downtown Baghdad is safer than downtown Anycity USA. If you're the wrong color in any downtown city neighborhood, late at night you're either raped or robbed. If N. Hollywood... sodomized.

This could be a fantastic story- the content is there and you have great visuals but the story telling is missing. 7:14 of beautiful drone shots, amazing cars, cool people, incredible scenery but as viewers we learn almost nothing. You should recut what you have any think about some important questions: who are these people, what do they do?, is there an existing car culture in Nigeria? Where do these owners fit in with these older cars?, where did they find these vehicles?, how did the cars end up in Western Africa in the first place?, is it difficult to source parts?, do the cars have the original drivetrains?, are they driven daily?, do the owners plan to restore the vehicles?, if not, how do the owners view the rough aesthetic of the Porsche and the Mercedes convertible? (are there comparisons to rat-rod culture for example), etc. etc. etc. You have only scratched the surface and after watching your video I just want to know MORE!

Loved it! Thank you for giving us this glimpse of Nigeria. I have to say, one of my favorite parts was the behind the scenes footage towards the end.. you guys looking at the footage on your phones and being all excited.. That was so contagious! Brought a huge smile to my face.
If I were to give some criticism.. Maybe the video a bit too strong on the dramatic athmosphere editing, especially in the beginning, and not soooo strong on the informational content.. I would have liked to hear a little more about what it's like to try and preserve such a car in Nigeria. You know. Stories of how the owners made it work. Stuff like where did they get the car, how long until it finally ran, what was the biggest challenge etc.
Also, holy shit, that 190SL is beat up! Kudos for making it drive.

No, the most people are thinking: „Oh my god. That 190SL, what a waste of historic value...“ And not that your country is beautiful. Because it mostly isn’t.

So often all of us become focused on ourselves, or other places in the world.. And then there’s these amazing guys and girls. This video in my opinion was heartfelt and reminded me of my youth. Im still a car guy, but the love and complete utter passion they all have for one another and there passion is unprecedented.. I wish things where still like this in the U.S. , instead there’s millions of snobs mooching of the next persons Ideas with no direction, and the car community as a whole has lost its touch and love for one another.

My Tayo your filming and cinematic editing style is wonderful. If you have a very good original African story developer, you can make an original foreign film that will win an award. The key is telling an internationally accepted intriguing story that everybody will relate with one way or the other. My greetings from Seattle, Washington, love it. Thanks.

Beautiful documentary. Suggestions 1. To creat more contents, why not short videos for each cars. 2. For future cars to be revived, can we have a video from the beginning to the end of the process. Once again this is fine and productive

Going on what I've read, I heard that Nigeria is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. It could easily be the Singapore of Africa, if it plays its cards right. If this comes to fruition, the car scene will grow and expand. Watching this video brings into focus that the love of cars transcends cultures, rendering identity politics obsolete and reveals it to be the sham that it is.

    • @hustlerdiary1

Love the intro of the documentary, awesome shots. you should have used the vice documentary route, interviewing and building the character of the main-guy speaking instead of the motivational background sound and voice over-ish. It made the story lack its actor. you are an awesome director, the storytelling just lacked content.

This is the video that made me a subscriber, because it's very different and captivating topic, to bring the cars back to life tells you there are still some good and skilled people around for such workmanship and who have great appreciation of mechanical craftsmanship. I don't know why you never follow it up. Did you know how many Bedford and Austin trucks perished in Nigeria, I'm sure they'll become collectable one day.

This is really really great! I‘m gonna check out your other content these days..... Plus the cars are beautiful the way they are! There’s enough shiny shit elsewhere, those rides represent history and Africa. Just like the Cuban rides we (I guess) all love they reflect the hardships, the lack of appreciation over decades and the creativity and effort needed to keep them running. Best from Vienna, Austria!
