    Episode Notes:
    1. Captured on original hardware.
    2. Sega Rally has licensed cars and brand advertisements.
    3. While I'd personally want Fighters Megamix, I do not think it would be there. As far as I can tell, it did not sell anywhere near the numbers of VF2.

      Following your logic Sega Lord X, Darius II has a good chance to be on a hypothetical Saturn mini : Baku Baku, Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic 3D Blast, Oasis, Shining Force have all been re-released previously in the 8-16 formats, through ATGames and Sega themselves, obviously to appeal to the millions and millions of Saturn fans. From a Japanese perspective, that would make sense. Personally, I would be disappointed if we didn't see more ports of the Sega Model 2/3. Getting rid of ads here and there must not cost has much as buying the Tomb Raider video game licence... I took RE Code Veronica out of my Dreamcast Mini when I boldly realised this gloomy dark tank-controlled overdone classic would not be worth getting the licence for it. First party must come first, which means Daytona USA should prime over hedgehog crusher Lara Croft. Regardless, I would buy a Saturn Mini because Yaba Sanshiro doesn't cut the mustard just yet.

    I do think a Saturn mini should happen. This is a good prediction for what games could be on it.
    If I were in charge of making a Saturn mini, I’d include many of these while also optioning:
    - Dragon Force
    - Street Racer
    - Rayman
    - Astal
    - Virtua Fighter Kids
    - Fighters Megamix
    - Tetris Plus
    - Night Warriors
    - Soviet Strike
    I would also offer a Mission Stick and Analog Controller for compatible titles!
    I especially think Street Fighter Alpha 2 is an important addition to your list because it’s better on the Saturn than on the PlayStation!
    I know a Jaguar mini isn’t the best idea, but knowing some big name titles were available for the actual hardware, I think a Jaguar mini could sell well if its game list included:
    - Rayman
    - Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
    - Theme Park
    - Cannon Fodder

    A Saturn mini is really my most wanted mini console right now. And it is precisely because I've never played saturn. Mini consoles have been a great opportunity to experience consoles and games you maybe missed out on in the closest way possible to original hardware besides the original.

      Yep, I got the NES, SNES and most importantly the Genesis Mini. Last mini I bought was the Coregrafx Mini, and it gave me a brand new experience because I never had a PC Engine/Turbografx. Some people may hate emulation, but I now get to play many great titles that I didn’t have any experience with. I love them all, but it’s very cool to have the Coregrafx.

      I do feel like the realistic version of the list is probably the more realistic and the fact it would *probably* be Japanese only. Like SLX said the chance of anything that is untranslated getting translated or anything like that is highly unlikely.
      Plus most of the licensed stuff because they don't want to pay for that either. It's basically the same problem something like the Dreamcast mini would be faced with. A high amount of best stuff people want are owned by other companies.

    I would absolutely buy a Saturn Mini day one!! Although, yes, this would be a niche product in the US so it is highly unlikely.
    However, there was TurboGrafx-16 Mini released, so you never know.
    It is so disappointing that a lot of these Saturn games are locked away on the original system. Also, a lot of 2D games that were both on the Playstation and Saturn were arguably better on the Saturn.
    I do like the 22 picks on the system and understand licensed games would be out.
    However, I'd also love to see other games such as Fighting Vipers, Fighters Megamix, Gex, Earthworm Jim 2, Bug Too!, Mega Man X3, Lunar Silver Star Story, Astal, Dragon Force, Clockwork Knight 1&2, Bust-A-Move 2, and Silhouette Mirage.

      32 bit era 2D games have aged better than 3D games. If you take the Saturn's best looking 3D games like VF2/Sega Rally, then pair it up with the incredible 2D games and treasure exclusives, people who skipped it may have their mind blown in terms of how it aged next to PS1 and the N64/fog. It shines with its strength, nobody cares anymore that Destruction Derby and Toshinden looked like crap, yet that was the stuff of obsession for a while when the console launched at a high price point.

    My list for a Saturn mini?
    -> Street Fighter Alpha 3
    -> Marvel Super Heroes vs Capcom
    -> Die Hard Arcade
    -> Nights
    -> Mega Man X4
    -> Mega Man 8 (it does have exclusive content on the Saturn, after all)

    -> Wasn't there a mech combat game on the Saturn? Not virtual on... much more visually demanding if I recall. Not that Virtual On couldn't be on the list, just that if they want something that would stand out and also appeal to the realism nerds, it'd be hard to ignore the merit of it.
    -> As "out there" as this would be, wishful thinking would want Crusader: No Remorse to see its day on the Saturn Mini.

I owned X-Men vs Street Fighter & Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter back in the day and neither one had English modes that I remember (X-Men for sure didn't, maybe I missed it on MSH cuz I didn't play that as much?). Vampire Savior for sure did and D&D I have no idea, but it had the recent rerelease on modern systems so even if it didn't it's not like they'd have to put much work into patching in a translation. I'd love for some of the 1mb RAM cart games too like the SNK games. Pocket Fighter would be another one I'd love to see. The Saturn version was WAY better than the PS1 release and even though it didn't require the RAM cart to play, it had extra animation and sequences like combo endings that would knock the opposing character into orbit that wouldn't play if you didn't have the RAM cart in. God I loved that system. In my perfect world not only would have every game on the video and that we've discussed, but Dragon Force I & II, Wachenroder, all three Shining Force III chapters, Albert Odyssey, Princess Crown, Shining the Holy Ark, and even Sonic Jam, not cuz anyone *needs* another Genesis Sonic compilation, but just cuz the 3D Sonic museum hub world was *that* good.

    My brother bought me that Bandai model kit for the Sega Saturn and I just recently found out there's a guy who modified a raspberry pi device with a little mini USB connection to accept controllers so you can actually play Saturn's on that little tiny model!
    It's a bit involved something I probably wouldn't do as I'm not that confident in my soldering skills (even though I did fix my own game gear and it's screen to modern LED), but still...at least it's an option?!? XD
    Yeah I'm still surprised Nintendo hasn't done it N64 mini, and definitely surprised Sega hasn't done a Dreamcast mini.... but I do think the vmu would hold it back a little bit. I remember at least for serious, non hacked Chao raising, it was absolutely essential to have!

      @Loren Helgeson. Saturn emulation for Android phones is still hit and miss as there are only 2 available (really only 1) and it's hit or miss. Some games play fantastically with no slow down/frame rate issues, freezing, music or audio glitches. But other titles have many of the aforementioned problems including games which don't work at all. Saturn PC emulation is superior to Android phones.
      A Sega Saturn mini would be phenomenal. But I won't get my hopes up high for a release anytime soon. Lol.. And even if one does come out, many titles wouldn't even make it. But that could be easily overcome by allowing gamers the ability to play games in addition to having preloaded games.

    Here's an idea, they don't need to limit themselves to just Saturn games, you know how the Genesis Mini also had brand new ports of Darius and Tetris? The d pad and buttons are very similar, the shoulder buttons were the best to ever exist for almost 2 decades, a dream for driving games. But of the two MegaTen games on the Saturn, Soul Hackers has the best chance of appearing on a Saturn mini.
    I don’t think Atlus has any interest in localizing the original Devil Summoner unfortunately.

      Man that would be awesome. Do you know if anyones taking that 3DS translation and applied it to the Saturn game? I have the 3DS version but the look of the Saturn is just a lot nicer imo. If not, hope that's a thing someday as its a solid title for sure.

      No, they would not. Sega do not want to do anything unless it's handed to them on a silver platter. They did not even want to make the Genesis Mini themselves and were only forced to by fans getting buttmad about it

      @JoeZep unfortunately nobody seems to be working on a patch for the Saturn version of Soul Hackers. There was an English patch in the works for the PS1 version but was canceled as the 3DS version got localized.

      @JoeZep actually I stand corrected. There is a group that is in the process of making an English patch for the Saturn version of Soul Hackers called TraduSquare, unfortunately one of their guys told me it isn’t an active project and they’re not sure when they’ll get back to working on it. They said they’ll upload the technical docs though.

      TG16 mini sold way better in the US than I'd have ever dreamed. It was much more obscure. My home town in the midwest had several stores selling Saturn until it was discontinued, you couldn't buy TG16 games there. Pretty much every rental shop rented Saturn games, there was just one place to rent TG16 games and zero places to buy them.

      @@famousmcfly80 Have you played Snatcher? I think the US Sega CD port is actually the best in content/quality even including the 32 bit versions. A lot of people hung up on the PCE port because of 10 seconds of uncensored content, but really I think Sega CD port is the best port of the game on any platform. If the PCE version really was superior I'm sure we'd have had a fan translation long ago. I get what you mean though, PCE RPGs are probably the biggest untranslated treasure trove now that Saturn RPGs are getting translated frequently.

    Great video, and a very practical list. I could see a couple more fighting games getting a spot, maybe something from the Darkstalkers franchise, or Fighting Vipers/Fighter's Mega Mix.
    Regarding the chances we'll ever see the Saturn Mini, I think it's possible. Even though the Saturn didn't sell well outside of Japan, a lot of its games and franchises have become either well known or cult classics. A reasonably priced Saturn Mini that gave people a chance to finally play Panzer Dragoon Saga would at least sell pretty well. Especially now, with the added interest in retro games fueled by TH-cam creators (including you!).
    I think a bigger obstacle is the weird hardware architecture of the Saturn causing emulation issues. I haven't been keeping a close eye on the Saturn emulation scene, and I'm glad to hear it's improving, but I wouldn't be surprised if emulating that unique system architecture meant requiring a bit more powerful hardware than something like the PSX Mini, which could drive the cost up a bit. Still, as someone who missed out on the Saturn (only rented one a few times), I'd love to be able to get a Saturn Mini so I could experience these amazing games.
    I'd also love to see you make an equivalent video of your picks for a Dreamcast Mini. Keep up the awesome content! :D

The newly made Sakura Wars fan in me would want them included in the hypothetical western version, which considering the ps4 title exposing the series here as well the fan translations recently made, I think they might entertain that idea more than say, before 2019/20.
