Nice vid. Cool for me to see that the aircraft on the carrier (for example, at 22:07) with the open canopies are EA-6B Prowlers. I worked on those in the Navy :) According to the hull numbers on the flight deck, that's the USS Nimitz. Steveo - nice smooth approach, but no tailhook and no brakes - EJECT EJECT EJECT!!!!
Wow, Capt Val was the only pilot that didn't use the entire length of the flight deck to stop, and touched down right where a normal jet aircraft would have stopped. Nicely done!
What a sound! Dis guy right here always watch the plane video from here with my rock playlist crancked to 11. Metallica, Delta Parole, ACDC etc. AWESOME!
Microsoft flight sim X has a mission where you fly a Cessna Caravan that experiences a fuel pump failure. You can turn on the auxiliary pump and keep flying, or failing that, the engine will fail, and you can then do a power off landing on an aircraft carrier that happens to be just underneath you. It's an empty deck, so plenty of room, but still a pretty fun mission.
There is a great You Tube video of Navy and Marine pilots landing on a bouncing carrier. Nuts. As a retired Marine you always get the challenge from folks when I am at Edwards AFB as to best pilots. This video shuts them up every time. Marines are watching the deck on the video screen, eating popcorn and betting if the guy landing can hit the hook on the first attempt.
Logged my first 5 hours this week in the TBM850... Out and back to DFW and then out to Rock Mountain Metro.... I get it now. LOVE IT !!! Can't wait to get back in it.
Steveo, Cpt Val and Eric- great vid! Saw some wise-cracking about you guys in a comment. So instead of even honoring them with a response, I decided to send you a positive comment, instead. I really enjoy riding along with you guys (on my tablet, that is). You are great pilots and I congratulate you on your accomplishments. Not just for your excellence in flying/aviating, but also for providing some really cool videos. I really like that Captain Val is all business when she is in the left seat - highly focused (as are you, Steveo) on flying the airplane and nothing else. That says a lot about her (and you) as a person and shows how focused and perfectly serious she is concerning the task of flying her airplane. You both make me feel very confident when I click the 'play' button and we zoom around the clouds together. Lol. Glad for the TH-cam platform and for your channel. It's interesting and fun, especially the trips to the Bahamas. Also neat to watch the segments of Val landing on the grassy airstrip. She puts her plane right in there in a no-nonsense way - awesome pilot. Obviously, Steveo, you are top notch and in a class of your own. I have lots of respect for both you and Cpt Val and am pretty certain 99.999 % of your viewers would not have to be asked twice to fly with either of you. Thanks for the work you put in to provide us with some wonderful experiences, entertainment and education. As for the wiseguys, just tune them out and keep doing what you do.
1.) turns prop in wrong direction on preflight 2.) Really too much chit chat about sim games while taxiing and ATC talking. 3) accelerating with low attitude for airspeed after TO to zoom up is unprofessional
Thoroughly enjoy riding along and watching your videos for a long time. Not a pilot, but totally enjoy learning from you. My association with aviation was building the L1011 from wing mate to DD250 and riding along in second and third customer flights. Other aircraft include the S3A, P3 Orion, CP140, F117, B1B and 10 years with Honeywell Defense Avionics on the F15 Multi Color Displays. Appreciate all your work on giving us this insight. Maybe you'll make it out to Albuquerque some day.
DJH , I think the little prop flip was more for video effect and was not part of the pre-flight. Chatter should indeed be held to a minimum during taxi but I saw no signs that Steveo wasn't paying enough attention to atc. Acceleration in ground effect with a near max rate of climb is not unprofessional. It's done as part of pilot training at all levels. Come on man. And, those were licensed, multi-rated pilots on board.
@@majordomo9415 I am not a pilot, but I agree with you. I think Steveo appeared to have things well under control and didnt miss a beat. Whether it was spinning a prop, doing a very cool low run on takeoff or communicating with ATC. He did not seem to misinterpret any instructions or fail to respond to any communication (as far as I could tell). With regard to the direction the prop is turned, I am wondering if it even matters with a turbo? Although I know zero about it, it seems logical that if the prop is not 'engaged' by any mechanical means while the turbine is not running, perhaps it would not matter which way it is turned? I mean, since the TBM does not have a piston engine (correct?), I assume the prop must be disengaged until the turbine spins up and then it is engaged at some point. Again, I know nothing about it and it just a guess for me. Bottom line is that I have a sense that Steveo knows his plane well enough to know what he can and cannot do with it. I just enjoy his vids and glad he keeps it interesting.
@@Wugawamp Jeffrey, I have never been type rated in a turbine powered aircraft but I have spent a lot of time back in the day around all types of aircraft engines. The short answer concerning the direction a turboprop is hand rotated is no, it doesn't matter. Depending on the manufacturer, there may be a reference to direction in the POH for a particular aircraft but mechanically speaking there is no reason the prop cannot be turned in either direction during pre-flight.

With All Due Respect, your Co-Pilot is One Gorgeous Lady, Eric is One Lucky Fella. Always Enjoy your videos Stevo, even tho at 60, I've only flown 3 times. First flight Cincinnati to Nassau via Atlanta, then returned to Cincy via Charollett NC. Third flight, Cincy to Ft, Myers. I loved All of them!!!
I love watching your flying videos and look forward to when they come out. You've greatly inspired my interest in flight. Normally I prefer high wings, but that TBM impresses me.
Do appreciate your narrating the startup procedure and being specific with tempratures and sequence for every startup. I'll never be in a position to do a startup, but after hearing this enough times, I'll at least be able to say I learned something new.
